Personally I would have been way too anxious

and nervous doing the whole ceremony part in

front of too many people, I really wanted it to

be very intimate. So we decided to have our big

party with extended friends and family the next

day for New Year’s Eve instead.

Another big reason behind doing it small was

because I really didn’t want to go to work on

my wedding day, which inevitably would have

happened if we had a lot going on with loads of

people to host.

I could give plenty of advice to couples planning

their weddings but the one thing I’d say is

to please please please, do what is right for you

and your partner.

Yes it might cause a few eyerolls from the

aunt you see once a year, and questioning from

your parents neighbour but at the end of the

day, how much of a role will they play in your

life and marriage? If they are integral to your

daily life then of course they will be on the

guest list, if not and if they truly recognised

that your wedding is about you and not them

then they will wish you well and support you.

I always say plan for your future and not your

past, while I’m sure your better half or parents

would like to invite everyone they ever met in

school, college, work, that one time in the local

pub, along to the wedding, well when was the

last time you really spent anytime with those

people, and do you actually know them?

So, you do you! You won’t regret it, I promise

you!
