Finally! We made it to 2020 and what a year it is set

to be for weddings. Save the Date with Team Bride

Magazine has all the information and inspiration

you need to plan your big day!

With this being the third edition, it is the biggest yet

and absolutely jam packed full of expert advice, bridal

fashion, real weddings and local suppliers that we know

you will love.

You might recognise some of the guest writers that we

have brought on board for this Winter Edition, from

fashion bloggers, hair stylists, travel experts to skincare

experts and popular local wedding suppliers – we

have some amazing content that we hope you will find

invaluable in planning your wedding as stress-free as

possible. We are so lucky to have such a pool of talent

right here in the North West who are willing to give their

time and expertise to help us bring you a quality magazine

packed full of relevant and useful ideas and inspiration.

Feedback from the last two editions has been

overwhelming and we love seeing our magazine take

pride of place in businesses and homes all over the county

mind! One of my favourite features in the magazine is real

weddings and I’m so excited for you to see our own bride

Naomi’s beautiful wedding featured in this issue.

As always, blood sweat and tears have gone into making

this magazine what it is and I’m grateful to have worked

deliver something that every engaged couple in the North

West can enjoy!

As always I look forward to your feedback.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW!

Dress shopping is one of the most exciting parts of the wedding planning process and one that most ‘brides-to-be’ look forward

to the most. It can be a stressful process and the sense of relief and joy when you have found ‘the one’ is real! One mistake

‘brides-to-be’ make is to think that it’s another tick off the list and they don’t have to think about their dress again until it

arrives into the bridal shop – wrong! Ordering your dream dress is only one part of the puzzle and unless you have the budget

to go for a custom fitted designer dress then you are going to need some form of alterations to make sure it’s the perfect fit on

the big day! With this in mind I’ve put together the ultimate Team Bride guide to the alteration process! (You’ll thank me later!)

– you will be wearing it for at least 16 hours so

you want it to be comfortable!

It’s never too early! Good seamstresses are

like gold dust and you want someone who

has experience working with bridal dresses

as it can be intricate, delicate work. Once you

find a recommended seamstress – book them

straight away! Even if you don’t have your

dress yet, book into their diary so you know it’ll

be taken care of. Every wedding dress will need

alterations of some kind .

BUDGET FOR IT

Even if your bridal shop offers an in-house

alteration service it’s unlikely that it will be

included in the price of your dress so make

sure to add alterations to your budget. Cost will

depend on how detailed the dress is and the

amount of work that needs done but if you allow

between €200 - €350 you should be well covered

(unless you want reconstruction or sleeves etc

added, then you need to budget more). Bridal

alterations are a specialist service and one dress

can take a few days to alter so this is reflected

in the cost.

Be patient – it may take a few fittings to get the

fit 100% how you want it. Allow for three fitting

appointments (you may only need two) and trust

your seamstress to know what needs to be done

and the best way to do it.

GET YOUR SHOES

Make sure to have your shoes with you for

16 | SAVE THE DATE with Teambride.ie

ALL FITTINGS, especially your first fitting as

the seamstress will need to be able to see what

shoes you are wearing to alter the length of your

dress. It will also give you an opportunity to get

used to wearing your wedding shoes and wear

them in a little.

USE IT AS A TRIAL

Although your fitting appointment is to get your

alterations sorted it is also a great opportunity to

have your hair and makeup trials so you can see

how everything will look on the day. No fake tan

though – unless you want to risk transfer to your

dress. Also, be mindful not to touch your dress

too much during the fitting.

MOVE AROUND!

I cant stress this enough! During your fitting

it’s important to move around in your dress –

don’t just walk a few steps, try to get a good area

where you can walk around and make sure your

length is good and you clear the floor without

catching on your dress. Also bear in mind

different floor surfaces will affect the length.

You will glide over a smooth tiled or wooden

floor but you will sink into carpet so think about

the type of floor in your ceremony and reception

venues – my pet hate is seeing a bride kicking

her dress up the aisle because it’s too long! Your

dress should be just off the floor to allow easy

movement! Also, don’t forget to sit in your dress

PLUS ONE ONLY!

With all the excitement of the wedding it’s

tempting to want to bring all your nearest and

dearest to your fitting with you but it’s important

to bring only one or two with you – too many

opinions are not helpful at this stage and can

add stress. Bring the same people to each fitting

and ideally someone who will be there on the

morning of the wedding to help you get dressed

(unless you have Team Bride booked then you

don’t have to even think about it!).

GET THE

FOUNDATIONS RIGHT

Underwear is key to the fit of your dress. You

should ask your bridal consultant for advice on

what type of underwear will work best for your

dress (practicality generally wins over pretty in

this case!). A week or two before your fitting you

should get measured for your underwear and

make sure to bring it with you to your fittings – a

different bra can make a few inches difference in

terms of alterations.

EAT!!

You may not want to eat before your fitting

as you don’t want to risk bloating etc but its

important that you don’t have an empty stomach.

You could be standing in one spot for an

hour and you don’t want to feel faint so have

something to eat beforehand and sip water

throughout your fittings.

Offering three Packages to choose from -

Our Classic Bliss, Simply Elegant and Sheer

Indulgence packages offer only the finest for

our wedding couples, with the comfort of

knowing we will change any details to cater for

your specific needs alongside our specialist

The Coolest Place on the Planet’s

Guide to your Donegal Hen Party!

If you fancy a hen with a bit of

everything then listen up!

Donegal Town

I love none other than Donegal Town

for a big night out. This wee town has

it all; a fun holiday atmosphere with an

abundance of places to stay, eat and

drink. The Gateway Lodge is great

to stay in and has fun veranda type

apartments just a 5 minute walk from

the centre of the action. It also has a

fab restaurant called Blás.

The Abbey Hotel and Central Hotel,

right in the centre of the action (on

The Diamond), are another great shout

and believe me you will more than

likely end up in The Abbey so why not

stay there! It also has a really fabulous

restaurant so can be a one-stop-shop.

Other places worth a visit are The

House Gastropub for food, drink & a

bit of craic. Don’t forget to try their

cocktail menu, definitely one of the best

Espresso Martinis around! Quaywest

down by the harbour is fab for seafood

and to watch the sunset along the bay.

McCafferty’s Bar is brilliant for live

music and to get you in the mood for

Sky nightclub in The Abbey!

Activity Hens

If you’re looking for activities, then

there are LOADS!! You can head out on

the Baywater Bus, a boat that leaves

from the harbour and brings you all

around Donegal Bay, they have music

and drink on board so a great way to

see the area with some fun added in.

You can also take a short trip to

Rossnowlagh beach (10 minute drive)

and go out paddle boarding or surfing

with Rossnowlagh Surf School. If you’re

feeling even more adventurous there is

horse riding on the beach or you can

get the hiking boots on and get up into

the Bluestack Mountains (great way to

clear the head).

Water

Adventure!

Why not do Paddle & Prosecco with

the lovely Máiréad at Gola Adventures.

You get to kayak, paddle board and

have the most amazing picnic on the

beach with lots of bubbles. Stay at

The Ivy in Gweedore, a lovely B&B/

restaurant, get yourself out to Teach

Mhici for some pizza & cocktails and

back to Sean Ógs for a dance.

You can also visit the bad Eddie

By Erin McGinty

shipwreck on the beach below the B&B

- a stunning beach to walk & be sure

to grab a sunrise on the way home! The

backdrop of Errigal is breathtaking.

Inishowen

has it all!

Fancy venturing into the most northerly

part of Ireland? Moville and Buncrana

are great options. In Moville stay and

eat at The Foyle Hotel. Go paddle

boarding or kayaking along the coast

with Inish Adventures. There’s lots

of great pubs and coffee shops with

a fab coastal walk to Greencastle.

In Buncrana stay at The Inishowen

Gateway, perfect for a group.

They have a fab spa if you fancy getting

pampered. To eat, Ubiquitous on the

Main Street is delicious and O’Flahertys

pub next door is great for a cocktail

and a dance. Inish adventures do a

stunning kayak trip around the caves at

Fort Dunree (10 minute drive) or Crana

Stables go horse riding on the beach

here too.

Donegal really has it all!

Enjoy xxx

Marries her sweetheart

And just like that it’s all

over and I’m an old married wife...

just kidding!

Well, don’t mind the ‘old’

part, I am now officially

a wife and have been for

the last two months. I haven’t got

used to that word yet, along with

my new surname and calling my

other half my ’husband’.

It’s very surreal but a lovely

feeling nonetheless. A feeling I can

only describe as warm and fuzzy,

and content.

As far as nerves go, I was really

quite nervous beforehand. I was

really nervous about the service

and walking

up the aisle

particularly. We

had quite a big

guest list and the

thought of having

so many people

looking at us in

silence for a solid

hour was giving

me nightmares. If

you’re feeling like

this, don’t be.

We had a

rehearsal the week

before which really helped settle

my nerves and it really wasn’t half

as bad as I thought. That didn’t

stop me having a little cry at the

back of the chapel when I peeked

in to see everyone though. I’m sure

we’re all the same at this point!

People will tell you, the day flies

by and it’ll be over before you

know it. They’re not wrong- it

really does go by in a blink. So one

huge piece of advice I would give

is to really live in the moment on

the day. Ditch your phone - I didn’t

look at mine once on the day and it

was great. There will be plenty of

photos to steal the day after.

We worked with Shea Deighan

and QML Videos and they were

both fantastic. From the minute

they entered our homes in the

morning until they left the hotel

at night, they were brilliant. My

husband, myself and our friends

don’t take ourselves too seriously

and we really love having a bit of

craic and these guys were perfect

for our personality.

Another massive recommendation

I would give is The Inishowen

Gateway Hotel. I could not say

one bad thing about our hotel! The

staff were fantastic, the food was

absolutely delicious, and the day

ran perfectly.

We felt so comfortable and

relaxed throughout our day and the

morning after and we can’t wait

to visit the hotel again sometime

soon.

Hair and makeup were done by

Makeup by Julie

and RUA by John

Paul Doherty.

They both were

absolutely

fantastic and

made us feel like

a million dollars.

The flowers

and all decor in

the service and

in the hotel was

done by Happy

Ever Vintage and

again I could not

recommend this company enough.

We had the pleasure of dancing

the night away to The Muddlers

Club and when I say danced,

we didn’t, along with the entire

wedding, sit down all night. The

band is incredible, and we couldn’t

recommend them enough.

One last piece of advice I

woould give any future brides is to

remember it’s YOUR day.

Don’t try to please everyone and

anyone. Do what makes you happy.

Don’t put yourself in mountains

of debt to try to impress other

people. The main thing about the

entire day is that you’re marrying

the person of your dreams.

I couldn’t write the column

without mentioning my amazing

husband. I am forever grateful that

you came into my life, and out of

all the millions of people on this

planet, we ended up together as

husband and wife.

I’ll love you forever.

Naomi xx

The Red Door Country House for something different!

Experience your special day with a

touch of something different at The

Red Door Country House.

Nestled on a 4-acre site overlooking

Lough Swilly in Inishowen, Co. Donegal,

the house, which was built in 1789,

today cleverly combines the tradition of a

country house with contemporary luxury

and style. Renowned for a relaxed, quaint

atmosphere, The Red Door Country House

is the perfect wedding choice for intimate

wedding ceremonies and receptions.

The extensive landscaped gardens with

unrivalled scenery and fantastic variation

of colour in every season make this country

house the perfect wedding venue. Rolling

lawns, mature trees and fine views across to

Inch Island ensures the wedding photography

will provide the most beautiful and

dramatic pictures of your big day.

The Terrace

The latest addition to the grounds, ‘The

Terrace’, has proven hugely popular for

the venue since its arrival last summer. An

outdoor seating area, The Terrace is the

perfect setting for guests to mingle during

drinks receptions, and with more couples

opting for al fresco nuptials, The Terrace

can also cater for small outdoor wedding

ceremonies.

Larger ceremonies may be held outdoors

within a marquee seating area amongst

the arching trees and immaculate gardens,

or the conservatory-style Willow Room

affords the same spectacular view from the

comfort of indoors.

Celebrations for up to 160 guests are held

in the beautifully appointed dining space

overlooking the Lough Swilly, where

guests can enjoy the breath-taking views

right up until the sun sets over Inch Island.

Marquee Package

For larger weddings up to 200 guests,

a Marquee Package is available for extra

dining space and an additional bar area in

the courtyard. The intimate wedding setup

at the country house means that guests still

experience top quality, restaurant style food

from highly trained, attentive staff.

The in-house wedding team are always on

hand to ensure a smooth planning process

from the initial meeting right through to

the wedding date, ensuring all details and

requests are adhered to.

Award Winning Venue

It’s no wonder The Red Door Country

House has been awarded a string of accreditations,

from Weddings Online ‘Restaurant

Venue of the Year’ for four years running,

to an esteemed AA Rosette award for

culinary excellence. If you are looking

for a wedding venue that incorporates its

REGIONAL WINNER

What’s ‘You’ For 2020?

Over the last few years I have seen more and more of

my couples move away from the traditional dresses,

ceremonies, room layouts, menus, bouquet tosses

and drinks receptions in favour of creating more of an event

with an ambience and flare to be remembered for all its

unique traits that represent the couple and what their love

story is all about.

Couples are also more commonly

opting for a more tailored, minimal

vibe to their day, but that by no means

means sparse or simple…. oh no the

devil is now in the detail! This involves

creatively styling fewer objects with

calibrated colours, spacing and

heights.

To plan an aesthetic wedding now

means to look at it in its entirety as one

themed day, not just a simple let’s tick

each piece off the list, but rather let’s

tick each item of the list in coordination

with each other. How do we do that I

hear you ask? Well here

are my top tips to your unique, coordinated day packed with

detail and impact for both you and your guests to remember

with love:-

Choose your neutral base tones

For example, foliage and gold metals or cherry blossom and

ivory.

Choose your special features to accompany

your base

For example pearls, pampas grass,

glass, cotton, hessian, geometric styling,

black tones, holly berries, candles etc.

Choose your accent colour(s) & which

areas you want to create the main feature

of.

For example 2020 will see cake and drinks

receptions become an extravagant affair

that will catch every guest’s eye.

A theme of Pampas grass, white, blush and

eucalyptus and gold tones carried throughout,

while re-utilising the ceremony decor at

the reception.

The modern wedding has become less about going-to-the-chapel, bouquet tossing traditions, and more

about choosing your own adventure, with the big trend of 2020 weddings being individuality!

Consider how you will carry your

base, special feature and accent

colour into every element of the

day.

This will allow for a tailored look

from start to finish, from your bouquet

to your cake.

Consider how you can reutilise

the decor from your ceremony

into your reception.

Can my altar flowers be moved to

either side of the top table? Can

my ceremony backdrop or entrance

decor by moved to behind my cake

table? Can my pew ends be added

to my centerpieces?

Consider where is the ‘you’

in your day?

Have we incorporated elements

that feel unique to us or have we

just followed a Pinterest Board?

The ‘you’ in your day can be as

simple as a travel theme if you have

travelled together, or some sand

from the beach where he proposed

or the music that you personally

enjoy.

Once you have carefully planned

the above and settled on it as your

theme believe me you will cut out a

lot of the irrelevant ideas, opinions

and last minute stressy decisions

that take the enjoyment out of

wedding planning.

Own your own wedding day and

make it unique to you! Others will

have already had their chance to

make it their own or will have in the

future, so remember this is your

time!

Make it yours and love it!

DANCING IN THE RAIN

PAUL DOHERTY PHOTOGRAPHY

TODAY is your wedding

day, you wake up, jump out

of bed, tear open the curtains

only to find the child of

Prague you have had out for

the week prior has done feck

all. The rain is battering the by Paul Doherty

window, the wind is blowing

a gale and the day you have been meticulously

organising down to the smallest detail now has

a spanner thrown into the works. Welcome to

County Donegal!

Everyone asks me “Have you ever had very

bad weather for a wedding?” And the answer

36 | SAVE THE DATE

with Teambride.ie

is of course, probably twice a month so I have

to know what to do and how to handle it so

that you get the most phenomenal photographs

possible. So that spanner in the works is just

another excuse to flourish on your special

day using whatever mother nature has thrown

your way. The best piece of advice I can

offer couples is to take advantage of the day

whatever the weather - rain, hail or snow -

make the most of it.

Before every wedding I sit down with the

couple and make a game plan for the day

considering all possibilities; Plan A (a quare

day for drying), Plan B (lashing down from the

heavens), and Plan C (when it would blow the

head off ya). Plan A might consist of going to a

dramatic seascape, beach or mountainous area.

Plan B could be a forest which would provide

shelter, or you could throw up an umbrella for

some dazzling rain shots or find a cosy corner

in the hotel. Plan C - the aim of the game is

to keep the veil attached we find somewhere

with a bit of shelter and a nice pub nearby so

we can dash out in between showers. If there

is anywhere special that you have in mind I

always try to help create your ideal photographs

whatever the weather. Some of the most

outstanding photographs I have ever taken have

been plan B or C days.

Luckily Donegal offers great diversity in

landscapes whether you are at the top of

An Grianán Aileach with views as far as the

eye can see or if you are on a cliff edge at

Portnablagh with a raging Atlantic Ocean and

dark gloomy clouds looming overhead, we

really are spoilt for choice in this rugged corner

of Ireland. Another famous characteristic about

Donegal is the abundance of little country

pubs, that would be more than happy to see a

wedding party coming through the door (such

as the Ole Glenn Bar or Biddy’s of Barnes) and

if you’re not into the pub scene why not pop in

to cute little coffee shops or restaurants like The

Rusty Oven in Dunfanaghy for example.

The main thing to consider is to get a

photographer that has experience with all

weather conditions who can advise you to make

the most of the circumstances to get the finest

photographs of your special day. The other

thing to remember is to bring an attitude of

adventure to the day and be ready for anything

so that you can be dancing in the rain!

5 WEDDING DAY GIFTS YOUR BRIDE WILL LOVE!

SAY IT WITH FLOWERS

This may seem like an obvious choice but we aren’t talking just any old

flowers here. We are talking the type of flowers that will keep you in your new

wife’s good books for a long time! Let us introduce ‘One Year Roses’ – the

gift that keeps on giving! These are the perfect Wedding Day Gift, beautifully

presented and do exactly what it says on the tin – last a whole year. You may

never need buy flowers again!

GO RETRO & THOUGHTFUL WITH A

HOMEMADE MIX TAPE!

In an era where our favourite music is at the swipe of a phone imagine how

much your new spouse would love a mix tape of all your favourite romantic

songs. Think nostalgia

and aim to bring all your

‘songs’ together in one

place – songs from the

year you met, something

you listened to while dating or even your choice of first dance song.

Although an original mix tape would be fab we think it may be more practical

to burn a disc instead – but we draw the line at a Spotify playlist!

SCENT OF ROMANCE

If you’ve got to the stage where she’s said yes and promised to love you till death

do you part then you should be at the point

where you know her favourite perfume (if not,

ask her Bridesmaid!). A wonderful gift idea for

your bride to be is a personalised bottle of her

favourite scent monogrammed with her new

initials, something she can keep on her

dressing table and will remind her of you and

your wedding day every time she sprays it!

DESIGNER SHOES/BAG

For some women, nothing says I love you like a fabulous pair of designer shoes or a gorgeous bag

with the magic LV initials emblazoned on it. Unless you know your bride to be’s taste inside out then

it might be best to recruit help for this one before your

splurge the cash! A cute idea is to have a little message

engraved on the sole of the shoes or maybe have

her new initials monogrammed onto the bag. Whichever

you choose to go with you will be in the good books

for a loooong time to come!

THE GIFT OF A STRESS-FREE

WEDDING MORNING

Let’s face it, in the vast majority of Irish Weddings the

Bride takes care of 90% of the wedding planning and

sometimes by the time you get to the big day the bride

to be is often a little stressed out! One of the kindest

gifts you can organise for your Bride and her girls is the

Team Bride Wedding Morning Dressing and Breakfast

Service! With Team Bride there on the morning your

bride to be can finally relax and enjoy the excitement

of her big day without worrying about a thing! To book

contact @teambride.ie or Facebook or Instagram

With most of the wedding preparation focused around the bride, grooms can feel a little

left out. But in our modern world grooms are beginning to take centre stage and in the

spirit of equality Team Bride is here to help our grooms just s much as our brides!

Here’s Our Latest Guide To Getting Your Groom On!

Mistakes a Groom always make!

For grooms, the journey from

engagement to “I do” is full of

potential mistakes. Here are the

wedding planning mistakes to avoid - and

what to do instead!

Not sticking to the budget!

When the wedding planning kicks off, you

and your partner will be tempted to say

yes to everything, too fast and too soon.

Take a step back before signing vendor

contracts and selecting a venue and come

up with a budget and pinky promise each other you’ll stick to it.

Inviting everyone you know!

Fresh off the engagement excitement, you may be tempted to tell

people here and there that they’ll be invited to the wedding but

try to refrain from tossing out verbal invites. Wait until you sit

down with your fiancée to discuss a concrete guest list.

Ignoring the wedding planning

While your partner might be lost in a sea of Pinterest boards

and wedding planning magazines, that doesn’t mean you should

be a ghost during the whole process. Offer

to look through their idea books and Excel

spreadsheets every so often to stay in the

loop.

Drinking the night before!

Try not to find out the hard way that no

one is exempt from hangovers—even the

groom. Take it easy the night before to

avoid spending quality time with a packet

of nurofen and a pounding headache the

morning of your wedding.

Going AWOL on the day!

While you’ll want to spend time with everyone, remember

weddings are about the two people getting married. Keep close to

each other and remember to enjoy the day together.

Saying ‘I don’t care’!

Remember this phrase because it is truly one of the worst things

you can say during the wedding planning process! Even if you

find yourself indifferent about a certain detail, make an effort to

really look at the options and have an opinion either way.

Your nails should be high

The big day is approaching and you have

it all under control, hair trial ‘check’,

makeup trial ‘check’ ...

But there is a nagging worry in your mind

that you may have missed something…YOUR

NAILS!

Brides hands are photographed quite a lot

during the wedding day and their hands are

grabbed by all the loved ones wanting to glance

at the new bling on her finger, but somehow

nails aren’t very high on the priority check list.

Regular manicures will ensure your hands

look tip-top for the wedding day, no broken or

chipped nails and no sore cuticles.

If you have never had your nails done and all

the talk of gel polish, acrylic, shaping, ombre

or extensions makes you want to pull your hair

out, take a step back. Your nail technician is

there to guide and help you make all these mind

boggling disissions. The technician will ask you

questions during your visits, not only because

we love hearing all about the magical day you

are hoping for, but it also gives us an idea of nail

designs, colours or the perfect product to put on

your nails.

Typical questions

to expect:

1. When are you getting married? (You say

‘summer, winter, autumn or spring’ but we hear

‘French ombre, nudes with a blue tone, burgundy

or baby pinks’)

2. What does your dress look like? (You say big

with loads of sparkle. We hear ‘diamonds on one

nail, with fairy dust glitter tips’)

3. Does your wedding have a theme? (You

say ‘romantic’. We hear ‘almond shape, ivory

colour’)

4. What shoes are you wearing (You say ‘peep

toe heels’. We hear ‘remember to book a gel

polish toes appointment’)

If you are a regular client and know how you

want your nails to look like on the big day, make

sure to try it out at one of your appointments,

there is nothing worse than choosing your

colour and not being able to look at your hands

afterwards, unfortunately this does happen. ‘The

colour looked lovely on my friend, but it doesn’t

suit me at all’.

Find the colour that suits you best.

The other ladies too...

It’s not only the brides that need to be prepped

and pampered, there are other important ladies

to think of as well, bridesmaids and mammies.

If you are looking for a nice relaxing salon

experience with these important ladies in your

life, make sure to book appointments for them

when you book your wedding day nails.

Even though it is not of utmost importance that

your girls have matching nails it is comforting to

know that they have their nails looked after and

it is one less thing to worry about.

Mammies tend to paint a colour themselves

the night before, but isn’t Mammy also the

one running around looking for the nail polish

remover to fix her chipped nail on the morning

of the wedding?

A gel polish is the most popular treatment for

the mother of the bride or the mother-in-law. The

polish lasts about 3-4 weeks and is perfectly dry

when you leave the salon.

Don’t forget the groom...

Men NEVER think of their own hands, they

believe manicures are for woman and not a

manly thing to do.

Well boys... dirty looking hands, over grown

cuticles and scissor cut nails are not as attractive

as you think. The groom’s hands also appear

in photographs and you do not want the missus

to look at those photos for the rest of her life

thinking, ‘I wish he just took a file to those nails

and maybe scrubbed his hands’. Male manicures

consist of a scrub, pushing back and cutting the

cuticles and filing the nails. No shiny nails we

promise.

The Ultimate Wedding

Nails Checklist:

1. Research and find the nail salon/technician

you want to trust with this important task

2. Work out and book your trial appointments

two to three months in advance

(Leaves you with about three appointments

before the wedding day nails)

3. Book appointment for wedding nails

4. Book bridesmaids and mothers

5. Get a good hand cream and cuticle oil

6. Convince your soon to be hubby his hands are

important too

7. Make the most of the experience and enjoy

every last second

THE FASHION CHAIR

www.thefashionchair.blogspot.ie

By Emma Murray

As nuptials are now

spanning two and even

three day affairs, your

wedding wardrobe is likely

taking on a life of its own.

Whether it’s a farewell brunch

or a boozy BBQ, ‘day two’ is

usually a more casual affair

but the onus is still on to put a

stylish foot forward.

Googling “What to wear

when hungover and you need

to impress distant relatives”

probably won’t return the search

results you need, so I’ve scoured

the web to find the very best

outfits perfect for “the day after

the big day”.

From dreamy dresses to

jumpsuits (which can be styled

differently for other occasions

down the line), here are five

stylish outfits that’ll make

people forget it was you doing

barefoot air guitar on the

dancefloor until 3 am - which

may I add is perfectly ok

considering the day that’s in it!

OUTFIT 1

The jumpsuit

Every bridal wardrobe needs

a statement jumpsuit and they

don’t come much better than

the elegant and angelic Natalie

jumpsuit from Chi Chi clothing.

Featuring an embroidered

overlay bodice, fitted waist

and flared trousers, this is the

ultimate day 2 wedding outfit.

OUTFIT 2

The cape

Looking for a fun yet stylish

wedding outfit that’s a little

bit different? This stunning

Patsy jumpsuit by designer

Rime Arodaky has just the right

amount of sparkle that makes

it a statement piece without

being over the top. The elegant

lace detail and beautiful skirt

overlay will make you look classy

with a twist and this will be an

investment piece you treasure.

OUTFIT 3

The blazer dress

A blazer dress is a chic and

sophisticated way to create a

killer look and this design from

Pretty Little Thing is at the top

of my hit list. Featuring a crisp

white fabric with an asymmetric

design and gold button

detailing, style with gold heels

and accessories for the ultimate

post wedding vibe.

OUTFIT 4

The midi with sleeves

Modern, relaxed and stylish,

this floaty style from Silk

Fred is simply beautiful. The

combination of a v-neck, wrap

top and tie waist means it will be

super flattering and this dipped

hem maxi dress is ‘the one’ for

those special events

in any diary.

OUTFIT 5

The full length dress

If you have to dress up, dress up

in this!

Featuring a pleated design,

single shoulder style, hoop

detail and side-zip fastening,

London label TFNC is renowned

for its standout occasion wear.

Featuring a semi-sheer, woven

fabric, it will be very light and

comfortable to wear which is

exactly what you want to party

all night long … again!

Best of luck with all of the

wedding planning and I hope

this little guide was of help!

It is advised to start your treatments

‘Sparkle

Extravaganza’

For those brides who like a bit

of glitz and glamour, sequins

are the perfect choice for a

“Hen Night Out” look. Sequins/

glitter aren’t just for Christmas,

I think sequins can be fabulous

at any time of year. Especially

in lighter colours for spring.

‘The White Outfit’

I know some people may think it’s a bit

“cliché” to wear white at your hen party, but I

absolutely love an all-white outfit. You’re the

hen after all, you should stand out and make

sure everyone knows you are the Bride-to-Be!

1. Dress from Get That Trend

2. Dress from Evolve, Letterkenny

‘An LBD’

Another classic for hens to wear is the sassy

little black dress. There’s an LBD to suit everyone.

Mini, midi, maxi, strapless, backless, long

sleeve, short sleeve – you name it, there will be

the perfect shape to suit your figure.

‘Chic Accessories’

What hen party is complete without bridal

accessories? If L-plates and veils aren’t your

ideal, I have found beautiful accessories that

will help make your outfit pop.

GLOW Time

Preparing your skin for the big day doesn’t have to be complicated. A good home skincare routine

is most important, but for that extra little treat the HydraFacial steps in. Fitzgerald Private Clinic

Letterkenny brings to Donegal the first results-driven original and best HydraFacial

medical grade skin device. Prepare to glow!

6 STEPS,

60 MINUTES,

THE BEST SKIN OF YOUR LIFE

What is the HydraFacial?

HydraFacial is a medical-grade device offering 6 facial treatments in a 1 hour session

It uses advanced, patented vortex technology to deeply cleanse the skin and effectively deliver botanical ingredients

containing nutrients such as hyaluronic acid, horse chestnut seed extract, red algae extract, copper, zinc and

magnesium peptides to where they do the most good. In addition, HydraFacial delivers powerful antioxidants to

counteract damage by free radicals – from pollution, sun and stress – which can degrade the skin and accelerate

the ageing process. HydraFacial is so much more than just another facial. It’s an experience and a confidencebooster.

It focuses on the unique philosophy of ‘Skin Health for Life’. But, it’s also about much more than just

great looking, healthy skin. When our skin looks good and feels good, we feel good too.

What treatments does HydraFacial offer?

HydraFacial is a great treatment for men and women. It can be used for

overall skin rejuvenation. It can also be used to address specific skin issues

such as acne, ageing and pigmentation. The extraction phase is fantastic

for removal of blackheads and improving pore size. This treatment is

most commonly used on the face, but can be tailored for use on the neck,

décolleté and more.

What is the Six Step Process?

1. Detox (lymphatic drainage)

2. Deep cleanse and exfoliation

3. Acid peel (salicylic and glycolic acid)

4. Extraction

How do I look afterwards?

Your skin will immediately be clearer, and have a visible glow. It is normal

for your skin to be pink after treatment. This settles usually within 20

minutes.

How do I book?

You can find more information, and book your treatment online at

www.fitzgeraldprivateclinic.com or contact us at

info@fitzgeraldprivateclinic.com or 074 9707004.

HydraFacial is available in Letterkenny and will be joining our Dublin

clinic soon.

We are official stockists of Environ Skincare, Obagi Medical Skincare

and we offer skin peels, Dermapen microneedling, UltraCel, Profhilo,

antiwrinkle & dermal filler injections.

5. Hydrate and protect (hyaluronic acid,

antioxidants, peptides)

6. Rejuvenation (LED light therapy)

How many treatments will I need?

Depending on the desired outcome of your treatment, your skin

professional will discuss the number of treatments and intervals you may

like to have. With our ‘Skin Health for Life’ protocol we aim for general

skin rejuvenation and this can be repeated every 4-6 weeks for as many

treatments as you desire. For our more in-depth acne, pigmentation and

anti-ageing protocols we recommend treatments every 1-2 weeks for a

minimum of 6 for best outcome.

Prepare to glow!

Honeymoon Highlight:

DESTINATION DUBAI

By Charlene Ryan

Charlene Ryan is a 30 something Irish blogger living in Dubai with a passion for

fashion, travel, dining & hospitality. Follow her: insta handle: charlenescloset_blog

Dubai is well known as a fast-paced cosmopolitan city with an array of glitz and glamour with countless romantic

experiences to enjoy, so where better to begin married life and honeymoon? With the winning combination of both

Arabian traditions and the best luxury amenities in the world, Dubai is ranked as one of the world’s most luxurious and

extraordinary destinations, perfect for honeymooners looking to relax, indulge and enjoy newly-wedded bliss.

Whether you are enjoying a magical balloon

ride over the Arabian desert or watching the

stars cuddled up together from inside your

crystal roof tent in the middle of the desert,

Dubai is the perfect place to celebrate your

new life together.

Here are some of the best ways to enjoy

a romantic honeymoon – now go get

booking!

Love Is in The Air

Like a scene from Aladdin, celebrate your

honeymoon with a romantic magical balloon

ride over the Arabian desert, gazing at the

gazelles and wandering camels beneath.

Enjoy this once in a lifetime experience of

seeing the stunning sunrise from high up in

the sky.

Rest assured you won’t regret getting up

early or – if you prefer a lazy breakfast in bed

instead, you can take a sunset hot air balloon

ride to enjoy the onset of sundown over the

Dubai skyline.

Starry Starry Night

Imagine waking up to a magical sunrise in

your own private hideaway with your special

someone.

The Pop-Up Starlight Camp is equipped with

a spacious crystal roof tent, a stylish lounge to

relax near a warm bonfire, a cozy dining area

and fully equipped barbeque facility and many

other essential amenities.

Best of all it is exclusively for you so get ready

to experience sheer tranquility in the middle of

the Arabian desert.

Splurge at The Burj Al Arab

Quite literally the epitome of luxury, Burj Al

Arab is the world’s only seven-star hotel and

after an evening spent here you will leave

feeling like royalty. Check out the insta-worthy

Skyview Bar, on the 27th floor where the bar

menu includes fabulous concoctions like “Mrs

Big” (with a nod to Sex and the City) - an apt

cocktail for loved up honeymooners. Plenty

of photo opportunities await in this opulent

setting by your new #instahusband.

Dinner Date @ 101

Spectacular views, fine dining and an

opportunity to arrive by boat make 101 a

restaurant that ticks all the honeymoon boxes.

The restaurant is in the private marina off the

jetty of the One&Only the Palm and boasts

tables over the water as well as a seaside

lounge looking out over the Gulf. To kick start

your romantic evening, start off with cocktails

at Jetty Lounge at the sister hotel One&Only

Royal Mirage and take the complimentary boat

over for dinner.

Pro Tip:

Dubai has all the makings of a fabulous honeymoon destination. However, it is a

conservative country so it’s essential to abide by their laws. While it can be difficult to keep

your hands off each other during the honeymoon period, it’s important to avoid public

displays of affection i.e. no kissing or behaving inappropriately in public.

BRIDAL TRIAL:

First and foremost is your hair and make-up

style, your hair stylist and make-up artist will

be able to tell you what you require should it

be a colour refresh or change, or should you

require extra hair volume using our in-house

Beauty Works hair extensions service. Schedule

a visit with our skin specialist Andrea.

If you have major skin concerns like acne

and uneven pigmentation, it’s best to get the

situation under control well in advance with a

dermatologist first. This is the time to have your

doctor prescribe topicals such as retinoids and

medications.

THREE MONTHS PRIOR

Consider your brows: For the most flattering

and youthful effect, keeping brows as

full and as natural (i.e. not too perfect)

as possible, which may mean forgoing

waxing in favour of tweezing. Check

out henna brows by Andrea, here in

G&G.

TWO MONTHS PRIOR

Master the tanning equation: There’s

much to be said for the ethereal

beauty of pale skin, but if you prefer

your limbs and complexion subtly

golden start experimenting a few

months before your wedding. If you’re

getting a professional spray tan, work

continuously with the same specialist to avoid

any surprises and book your final pre-wedding

session two to three days before the ceremony.

We use numerous tans here in G&G and have

special offers for our brides.

EXPERIMENT WITH EYELASH

EXTENSIONS

The semi-permanent lash extensions are a natural

way to enhance your eyes. Have your lashes

attached a full month prior to

ensure your eyes don’t have an

adverse reaction, and to give

you a chance to get the length

and volume right. Then have

them touched up two days prior.

PRACTICE GOOD SKIN

MAINTENANCE

To boost your pre-ceremony

glow: Have your skin specialist

do a light chemical peel or a

gentle laser treatment. Compound

the effects by drinking

loads of water, getting adequate

sleep, exercising and maintaining

a well-balanced diet.

BRIGHTEN YOUR SMILE

Book a professional clean to remove surface

stains and plaque. Then go for a whitening procedure

like Philips Zoom QuickPro, I absolutely

LOVE this teeth whitening. It helps maintain

the brightness. Avoid coffee and curry.

WAKE UP YOUR FACE

Fake a good night’s sleep: Skin guru Andrea

recommends booking a series of three

facials—one for each week leading up to the

wedding.

“It de-puffs you and makes eyes look less

tired.” She also recommends using an Image

Skincare face mask the night before. Drink

LOTS of water and avoid alcohol the night

before as it puffs the skin.

TWO WEEKS

PRIOR

Fine-tune

your hair by

perfecting

your colour:

Whether it’s

a root touchup

or subtle

highlights, we

offer a quickie

service for our

regular clients

here in G&G.

This involves ten packs of highlights on areas

that can be seen and a toner, this is smart for

many reasons:

It gives the colour a chance to settle while still

looking fresh, but doesn’t leave enough time for

your roots to start growing in, says Grace Walsh

Joico expert and master colourist at G&G.

She cautions that you need to establish

what shade works best for you as far in

advance as possible. “I think that it’s best

to be the colour

that makes you

feel most like

yourself,” says

Grace.

ONE WEEK

PRIOR

Practice

restraint: Try

to avoid salty

foods, excessive

carbohydrates,

and do not

overdo your

exercise in the

week before your

wedding as all of

these things cause

your body to retain

water and can

result in a puffy

face and eyes.

If you get a last-minute blemish, we recommend

booking an emergency cortisone injection

with a dermatologist, rather than relying on

potentially drying topical remedies. One last

VIP Image Skincare Oxygen Facial (special offers

available for our brides) with Andrea, will

help shrink pores plus boost radiance, which

is key when pre-wedding jitters can make skin

stressed.

GO FOR A FINAL TRIM

“I would never recommend someone make a

drastic change right before they get married. It’s

an emotional time, and too much change can tip

a fragile scale,” says Megan Friel. But she does

recommend having a trusted stylist do a light

trimming of the ends and bangs.

THREE DAYS PRIOR

Time your waxing carefully: To ensure your

skin is smooth but not irritated, get waxed no

later than 72 hours before the wedding day.

(If you’re a waxing novice, Andrea suggests

having a patch test a few months ahead of

time to see how skin reacts). Then, to reduce

redness or swelling immediately following hair

removal, smooth on a calming cream containing

colostrum (like like aloe vera), a reparative

treatment .

TWO DAYS PRIOR

Book a depuffing facial: “As much as you

should avoid it, many brides end up trying to

manage stress with wine that last week, which

leads to puffiness. One last oxygen facial by

Image skincare is our favourite way to prep

clients for any big event, will help deflate

your face, thus making your cheekbones and

jaw appear more defined.

PREP YOUR HANDS AND FEET

Between statement sandals and close-up shots

of the wedding band exchange, feet and hands

need to look picture perfect. Your best bet is to

get a manicure and pedicure a couple of days

earlier to ensure chip-free lacquer, says Roisin,

owner of Paint nail bar. While Roisin is a

fan of gel polish’s staying power, which will

last through the honeymoon, she says acrylics

work best for the perfect shape and for those

that are not blessed with dainty hands, these can

elongate the hands and make them look a lot

more feminine.

THE DAY OF THE WEDDING

Prime your skin for a last-minute boost: On

the morning of your wedding, apply a gentle

exfoliating mask (like Image Skincare Vital C

exfoliating mask) in the shower. Right before

makeup, I suggest smoothing a hydrating serum

onto your face, neck and décolleté to enhance

your glow before heading into hair and makeup.

Then, remember to remain calm, breathe, and,

most importantly, have fun and enjoy every moment.

The morning of my brides’ weddings is

definitely the favourite part of my job. Remember

it will be one of thee most amazing days of

your life, and the beginning of such an exciting

a journey. It’s such a special feeling knowing

your best friend and soulmate is waiting for you

at the altar wanting to spend the rest of their life

with you.

13 TIPS FOR GETTING YOU

IN THE BEST SHAPE EVER

ON YOUR SPECIAL DAY

You know that diet and exercise are important when it comes

to creating your best body, but you may be overlooking other

techniques for getting into the best shape.

with Personal Trainer

JOE RYAN

Turn the following 13 simple tips

into habits and watch as your body

transforms for your wedding day.

1) Eat a Smart Breakfast

Most people load up on carbohydrates

and simple sugars for breakfast. Cereal,

pastries, smoothies and juice are all

poor choices when it comes to starting

your day off right. Centre your breakfast

around protein and healthy fat, and

you’ll have energy for hours. Try a protein

shake, eggs, lean breakfast meat, or a

handful of nuts.

2) Get More Sleep

If you’re not getting at least eight

hours of sleep each night then you could

use more sleep. This is especially true

if you’ve reached a plateau with weight

loss. Give your body the eight hours of

sleep each night and make weight loss

easier.

3) Just Do It

If you’re really ready to achieve your

best body ever, then dig down deep and

commit. As Woody Allen famously said,

“80% of success is showing up.” This is

absolutely true when it comes to fitness.

Show up to your workout. Even if you’re

tired. Even if you’d rather be doing something

else. Just do it.

4) Plan Ahead

Take one day each week to plan your

healthy meals for the following week.

You don’t have to do all the shopping and

cooking on that day, simply jot down what

you plan to eat. This small act of planning

ahead will keep you on track with healthy

meals even when the week gets crazy

busy.

5) Cut Out Gluten

Many people don’t realise that they have

a certain level of sensitivity to gluten,

which causes intestinal inflammation

and bloating. Also, gluten-filled foods

are typically high in carbohydrates, which

contribute to weight gain. When you cut

gluten-filled items from your diet don’t

fall into the trap of simply replacing those

items with other high-carb items. Choose

non-packaged, whole foods instead.

6) Believe In Yourself

Do you believe that you have what it

takes to transform your body? If you

want to succeed in weight loss then you

have to believe that it’s possible. Give

yourself a pep talk and dig down deep for

the courage and discipline to apply these

healthy changes to your life.

7) Eat Less Dairy

Dairy products like cheese or cream add

extra fat and calories to your meals. Pass

on the dairy and you’ll eliminate unnecessary

calories, making weight loss quicker.

8) Sleep and Wake at the Same Time

This tip sounds so simple, and yet it’s

a powerful way to increase your daily

energy. Get your body on a schedule and

watch how much more productive and

energetic you become.

9) Include Veggies at Every Meal

Most people aren’t too crazy about

vegetables, and probably eat less than

they should. Make it a point to include a

vegetable with each of your meals – even

breakfast. The increase in fibre and other

nutrients will give your body that extra

boost that you’re looking for.

10) Ditch Packaged Food

Throw out those packaged foods! This

is one of the easiest things you can do to

achieve quicker weight loss results. Packaged

foods contain chemicals and additives

that will slow your fitness results.

11) Drink More Water

Being hydrated is key when it comes

to creating your best body. Drink water

throughout your day and limit caffeinated

beverages to once daily.

12) Forget Artificial Sweeteners

Sure, these sweeteners don’t contain

calories, but they are known to increase

your appetite and cravings for carbohydrates.

In the quest for your best body,

put down the diet soda and reach instead

for some water.

13) Exercise With a Pro

Are you exercising as efficiently as

possible? Do you challenge your muscles

enough during each workout? Are you

keeping the routine new and fresh? These

are all factors that will be taken care of for

you when you work with a trained fitness

professional. Working with a pro ensures

that you make the most of your exercise

time.

So there you have it, 13 tips that will

take your results up a notch.

If you have a dress to get into or simply

want to look your best on your special day

and haven’t joined one of my programs

yet, now is a great time to start. Together

we will get you focused on your goals with

my results-driven method.

Wedding Wellness

Vow to make your wellness a priority.

With Sarah Barr from New Beginnings

Hi, I am a counsellor and a bride-to-be, so I will be trying to follow my own advice in the run up to my wedding in

March. We, as brides-to-be, may have the occasional wobble in the build up to our big day, but if you’re feeling a

little stressed, here are five ways to mind your wellness in the lead up to your wedding day.

Practice mindfulness

and lower your stress

With so much of your focus and effort being

poured into planning your wedding I am

guessing, like myself, you want to savour

and capture every moment of your wedding

day. If you tend to think quite a bit about the

future, or gravitate towards reminiscing

about your past, you are not fully focused on

living in the moment.

Practising mindfulness is about focusing on

the here and now, stopping and taking stock

of what is happening around you.

The best time to start practicing

this, is now!

What do you see? Hear? Smell? Touch?

Taste? Whilst doing this, take a deep breath,

in through your nose. Fill your lungs with air,

hold for a couple of seconds and exhale.

Talking helps you to worry less and it

gives you reassurance.

Remember, you don’t have to do it all by

yourself.

Be Authentic

When you are authentic, you are being true

to yourself. You are not people pleasing or

hiding how you really feel.

It is an expression of your real self. Accept

yourself for who you are, don’t compromise

your beliefs or feelings, say ‘no’ and create

the type of wedding you want.

After all it is your wedding day, a day to

celebrate the love between you and your

partner.

Write it down

Enjoy your day

Enjoy the planning and organising, the

creating and the celebrating.

Remind yourself daily what you are grateful

for and try not to dwell on anything that may

not go to plan.

Keep your perspective clear and remember

this is all about you and your partner, this is

your day. Your time to show the world your

love.

Wishing you the most wonderful wedding,

take care.

Sarah

Talk

When you’re feeling stressed with wedding

planning don’t bottle it up. Talk to friends

and family and get it off your chest. Ask

yourself what advice would you give to a

friend? This will help you to put everything

back into perspective and find new solutions.

Writing can really give your well-being a

boost.

Regular writing can give you an outlet for

your stress. It will help you organise your

thoughts, clarify your feelings, feel more in

control and improve your self-esteem.

Treat yourself to a pretty journal/diary,

each morning write down your to-do list,

your goals and three things you are grateful

for.

Been there Bride

Advice from the other side!

Once you get engaged it seems everyone wants to offer opinions and advice and it can quickly become very

overwhelming and frustrating but one source of advice that every newly engaged couple needs is the ‘Been there Bride’!

Having gone through the planning process and survived to tell the tale they have lots if practical advice to help you

along the way. We asked our recent Brides to share their best advice and this is what they had to say!

Looking back, what would you do differently?

• Trust my own gut instead of allowing others to influence me

so much

• Go dress shopping earlier! Allow a good 9 months so you

have plenty of time to shop around

• Spend less money – starting married life in debt is a real

downer

• Waited to go on honeymoon – we missed out on all the chat

and excitement after the wedding and everyone was over it

by the time we got back!

• Hire a professional photographer – a friend offered and we

should have said no thank you but didn’t want to offend

What was the biggest cause of stress?

• RSVP’s! People just assumed we would know they where

coming.

• Table Plan – trying to please everyone and overthinking it

• Men suit Fittings – trying to get them all together was a

nightmare

• Other people interfering and giving opinions on

EVERYTHING!

What do you wish you’d spent

more money on?

• A Videographer – we regret not getting one as we’d love to

be able to look back on the ceremony. It goes so fast and you

don’t take half of it in!

• Flowers – we did our own and it was time consuming and it

was a stress we could’ve done without

• A second photographer to capture all the little moments

with guests that we missed out on

Anything you wish you’d

not spent money on?

• Wine! We bought our own and ended up with far too much

left over

• Expensive flowers – everything was binned the next day!

So much décor & flowers – I’d keep it simple as we went way

over budget

What do you wish you’d

organised earlier?

• Photographer – we knew who we wanted but didn’t book

straight away and missed out

• Guest List addresses – this takes way longer than you think!

• My Dress – I wanted to lose weight before trying on but it

meant I was rushed to order in the end

Favourite part of the Day?

• Seeing all your plans come together on the day – such a

lovely feeling of satisfaction

• The Ceremony – I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it

and the nerves just melted away

• Photos – we had such a great time with our photographer

and bridal party

• Being in a lovely bubble of happiness all day with my new

hubby

• Meeting my fiancée at the alter was so emotional and a

moment I will never forget

• Dancing – we had a brilliant Band and Dj and we really

enjoyed it with our guests!

Real Brides Top Tips

• Agree your budget before you start booking

anything and stick to it!

• Let your bridesmaid know what is expected of them

– don’t just assume that they know, especially if they

haven’t done it before!

• Keep it simple – at the end of the day nobody

notices all the frills

• Start your seating plan early and contact people to

RSVP

• Spend your budget on things your guests will enjoy

– music, food & entertainment!

• If you have to travel a long distance don’t book a

vintage car – it’s very pretty but it takes twice as long

to get to your venue and eats into the time you have

with your guests!

• Arrange for snacks and water to be in the wedding

cars – it’s a long day so you need to keep fuelled

• Pack a hanger and dress cover in your overnight bag

so you’re not walking out with it under your arm the

next day!

• Pay off your suppliers as you go along so you don’t

have a huge bill at the end

• Book Team Bride to be there on the morning – you

have no idea how much it helps to have someone there

to take care of everything so you and your bridesmaids

can just enjoy the morning!

• Take a moment with your other half away from

everyone else to just be together and savour the day

• Let people know if you need them for photos – do

family photos straight after the ceremony as people

wander off

• Relax and enjoy it – it’s the best day but it goes

so fast, so make sure you get time with your guests

before the meal to mingle and enjoy the fun!

BRIDES AND GROOMS-TO-BE LET’S TALK MUSIC

Wedding planning can be overwhelming and many don’t know where to start. Music is such an

essential part of your wedding day. It is the soundtrack to the best day of your lives. I’m here to

give you some advice and tips on how to plan your wedding entertainment without the stress.

HERE IS A BREAKDOWN OF

WHERE MUSIC WILL FIT

INTO YOUR BIG DAY

CEREMONY

Your ceremony music is a special element

of your wedding - it can make you smile,

cry and give you goosebumps. The

ceremony includes some of the most

unforgettable moments that you will

remember fondly for the rest of your

lives. From walking up the aisle, lighting

your unity candle, signing the register

and walking out as a married couple.

Your personalised song choices will make

those moments all the more special and

unforgettable.

DRINKS RECEPTION

Drinks reception entertainment is

becoming more and more common at

Irish weddings and rightly so. Drinks

reception entertainment starts when your

guests arrive at your reception venue

until they are all called for the meal. Your

guests are kept entertained while you and

your husband are getting your pictures

taken. It’s a great chance for people to

relax, mingle and stay together in a fun

and lively atmosphere.

BAND

Nothing beats a live band to get the party

started. You want a band that specialise in

weddings and that will keep your guests

on the dancefloor all night with. A good

wedding band will play a wide variety to

suit all ages. You want your guests to be

complaining about sore feet the next day,

that’s the sign of a good wedding band!

DISCO

After dancing the night away to your

wedding band you need a good DJ that

will seamlessly take over and keep them

dancing all night long with all the floor

70 | SAVE THE DATE with Teambride.ie

fillers. Many bands offer a DJ package

too so ask your band first if this is an

option.

10 TIPS FOR PLANNING

YOUR WEDDING

ENTERTAINMENT

Don’t delay, as soon as you know your

wedding date and venue start looking at

wedding singers, bands etc and deciding

what you want. Wedding singers and

bands have bookings up to three years in

advance so do not delay in booking your

entertainment to avoid disappointment.

Especially if your wedding is at peak times

in the year or if your wedding is at the

weekend these dates book up quickly.

Research your wedding entertainment,

if they are professional well established

wedding suppliers they will be on most

social media platforms. Check out their

videos and reviews from other brides and

grooms who have booked them in the

past.

Talk to your celebrant. Find out the

boundaries for your ceremony music as

some may only want hymns to be sung

others may be more flexible with song

choices. Know what you can and can’t

have before you start picking songs to

avoid disappointment.

Consult with your wedding singer/ band.

Any professional singer or band will be

willing to meet you prior to your wedding

and advise and help you in any way they

can.

Don’t be afraid to tell your wedding

singer, band or DJ what you want or

more importantly what you don’t want.

If you have certain songs that you cringe

at the thought of it being played at

your wedding. Make a list of songs you

don’t want played and give them to your

wedding entertainment suppliers.

My advice would be that there are many

areas of your wedding where you can

make shortcuts but music is not one

of them - it really is a vital part of your

wedding day.

Create a playlist on Spotify or make a

cd of songs that you are thinking about

having for your ceremony or first dance.

Play them in the house or in the car and

through time you will eliminate songs and

decide on what you want.

Cost will vary for wedding singers/bands.

Factors that will contribute will be how

many people there are - solo, 2, 3, 4, 5

piece etc, travel costs, live vs backing

tracks, peak dates such as New Year’s

Eve for example. There are so many top

class professional wedding singers and

bands in the North West you don’t need

to pay extra for travel when you have the

cream of wedding entertainment on your

doorstep.

First dance - Talk to your band tell them

what song you want and decide if you

want your first dance played live by the

band or played as a track. Pick a song

that means something to you both and

also a song that you are comfortable to

dance/sway to. Practice dancing to your

first dance prior to the wedding to make

sure your comfortable dancing to it this

will avoid any awkward stepping on each

others toes!.

Music is one of the main things that your

guests will notice. Don’t underestimate

the importance of your entertainment.

Make you wedding entertainment a

priority happy guests = happy couple.

In saying that it is your day pick

professional suppliers that appeal to all

ages but also suit your taste in music.

If you have any wedding entertainment

questions I’d be happy to help, email me

on grainnegaviganmusic@gmail.com.

Award-winning Donegal DJ

FOR ALL YOUR

ENTERTAINMENT

NEEDS!

Who is DJ Scotty?

John Hegarty (DJ Scotty), who has

been a DJ for the past 17 years, has

become more and more in demand

for weddings.

His passion for music from all genres

and his entertaining MC style has

shown his popularity in the wedding

sector increase immensely. John,

who has been a specialist in

weddings for a number of years,

believes that by mixing nostalgic

tunes and modern classics he will

keep the wedding guests all dancing

into the wee small hours

It's all fun and games

One of the many benefits that brides

and grooms get when they book DJ

Scotty is the unique games he can

provide to really make your wedding

day stand out from the rest, from

traditional Mr and Mrs, interactive

Mr and Mrs quiz, lip sync, dance-offs,

bandcamp or even musical bingo at

mealtime and he even offers a

bespoke package where he will

introduce the wedding party at meal

time, play intro music and play

ambient background music during

your meal (beats a random

hotel waiter introducing the

couple on a dodgy microphone

lol).

When asked what do you

like about djing at

weddings

“I love working at weddings

because I get to share in so

much joy. In fact, in 2017, I

gave up my job to concentrate

on weddings full time.

it's really nice to play such a big part

in a day where couples choose to

have this public display of commitment

and love. I guess I'm just a big

softy….

Weddings are so beautiful, so

romantic when two people are

saying wonderful things about one

another. I think anyone who works in

the wedding sector has to connect

with that.

You have to have this empathic thing

and be able to connect with people

and appreciate why they hired you in

the first place. But my favourite thing

about weddings is that no two are

the same, I love the diversity in

people's song requests I can

play everything from Etta

James, ACDC Brad Paisley to

Tiesto… just to name a few”

AWARDS

In January of 2018, John proudly

received the prestigious

award for the 'Best Wedding DJ

in Ireland', this was the first time

the award was received in the

North-West of Ireland.

DJ Scotty made it to the top ten

last year and has been nominated

again this year for the third

year in a row as the 'Best

Wedding DJ in Ireland' and

has successfully made it to

the top 10 once again. On

January 20th you will find out if

he can get all the way to the top

spot again!

The Irish Wedding Awards

dedication and commitment of

those in the wedding industry.
