KARAMOLEGOS WINERY
GREECE, AEGEAN ISLANDS
Karamolegos Winery, founded in 1952 by Artemis Karamolegos, began from a passion for
winemaking passed down to him from his beloved grandfather who made wine in a small
cave – or ‘canava’ – using traditional methods.
In 2004, a new winery was built to take advantage of the latest in modern technology
– mainly as an attempt to protect whites from oxidation – while also adhering to the
traditional practices passed down from generations. Artemis has not only been a
champion of the main Assyrtiko variety, but has also invested in the cultivation of some
of the more obscure indigenous varieties of Santorini, such as Mavrotragano, Aidani,
Mavrathiro and Voudomato.
ASSYRTIKO
Assyrtiko 100%
Characteristic stony minerality (salty
and flinty notes) in the nose followed
by fruity (peach, pear) and herbal
(tea, chamomile) hints. Rich mouthfeel
and elegant at the same time. Its
creamy texture makes an excellent
balance with the dry bone crispiness
and the high acidity of Assyrtiko. Full
bodied, concentrated wine with finesse
complexity and long salty aftertaste.
FEREDINI IGP
Assyrtiko 100%
Fruity aromas of melon, pear and
citrus fruits combined with the typical
mineral signature of the island and its
hint of herbal notes. Supple, fresh on
the palate with intensity, primary fruit
character, nice vivid balance and long
complex aftertaste.
PAPAS
Assyrtiko 100%
Austere and chalky mineral nose full
of iodine. Ripe stone fruit and herbal
notes in a salty background. Generously
structured mouthfeel, complex and
multi-layered. Reminiscent of thyme
and tea in a sea driven phenolic palate.
Great balance with a long savoury and
mineral aftertaste.
PLATIA LOUROI
Assyrtiko 100%
Louroi-Platia is on the lower part of
Pyrgos borderline with Megalochori.
Over 150 yo vines. 11 months kept on its
lees. Additional 12 months in bottle.
The back label quote: ”Pleasure has
no relish unless we share it.” – Virginia
Wolf.
White blossom springtime aromas, ripe
exotic fruits followed by sweet herb
aromatics and peppery background.
Lovely weight with grip and extract.
Palate shows candied quince with zingy
acidity and vibrant finish. Long, sweet
and mineral aftertaste.
