eal weddings AMANDA & DRAKE PHOTOGRAPHY BY 5 STAR WEDDING FILMS AND PHOTOGRAPHY Both Sacramento natives, Amanda met Drake when he threw a party at his dad’s house. “I had noticed Amanda many times at a line dancing bar we both went to often, but we were finally introduced by a friend that night,” says Drake. Eight years later, he proposed to Amanda in Old Sacramento and surprised her with brunch with both of their families to celebrate. When planning their big day, the couple knew what style of décor and food they wanted right away. “We wanted a big wood wall with floral letters,” shares Amanda. “To our surprise, wood walls were available for use at our venue. Our expectations for the day were far exceeded.” Still, the bride admits planning is an emotional roller coaster. The couple had to unexpectedly change venues five months before the wedding, but after finding The Ranch at Lone Oak Longhorns, they were more than happy with the switch. “Wedding planning can be stressful, disappointing and frustrating, but also fun, exciting and relaxing,” she says. “Our favorite part was meetings with our planner and designer, and with the venue. We left each meeting excited for the wedding and less stressed than before. It really helped to have them in our corner, making sure everything was done.” The ceremony was officiated by the maid of honor’s stepdad, Jack, who Amanda says is like family to the couple. “The readings and words chosen by Jack were fitting for our relationship and were spoken sincerely,” she says. Amanda and Drake’s nine-month-old son served as ring bearer and joined the newlyweds in their recessional back down the aisle. “We also loved our recessional song, Queen’s ‘You’re My Best Friend,’” says Amanda. “Aside from the love we have for each other, we are really great friends!” Amanda and Drake say their reception totally suited their style. “The longhorns roaming the pastures will never be forgotten by our guests,” says the bride. “We did have a bit of chaos between the cocktail hour and dinner when a rainstorm passed over, however the lightning and pretty sunset made for some pretty great pictures.” Guests took the weather in stride as they sipped on signature cocktails named after the couple’s two dogs, Reagan and Trigger. “It was so special to have our son join in on our formal dances,” remembers Amanda. “Once the formalities were finished, we had so much fun with our guests.” OO —Darren Elms 174 | REAL WEDDINGS // /realweddings /realweddingssac /realweddingsmag /realweddingsmag /realweddingsmagTV
