MONITORING AND SAFETY
AC INFO · 2/20
The chart shows the number of incidents per year,
which shows that the largest number of incidents on
the Lašva - Sarajevo north section. This section was
built before 2014 and at the time of construction there
was no obligation to implement ITS. In addition, the
section was built parallel to the Bosna River, and a
significant number of days a year are under fog. Work
on the implementation of ITS on the Lašva - Sarajevo
north section began in June 2020, and it is expected
that at the beginning of next year all built kilometers
of the highway will be under the management and
supervision system, which will certainly contribute
to increasing traffic safety on the A1 highway.
The European Commission's 2004 Directive on
minimum safety requirements for tunnels in the
trans-European network, according to which our
tunnels are built, defined which systems, devices
and equipment tunnels longer than 500 meters must
have in order to be safe.
Of the existing kilometers of the highway in
operation, 10% are tunnels, and their share will
increase with the further construction of the
highway on Corridor 5c. It is the implementation
of the requirements of Directive 2004/54 / EC that
guarantees a high level of safety in tunnels that are

considered to be particularly dangerous structures
on highways.
Traffic on all sections of the highway is monitored
and managed through variable signalization,
namely: traffic flow in tunnels, ventilation, LED
lighting, coordination of any accidents or incidents,
all in cooperation with the police, fire and other
emergency services in case needs.
The Center also monitors and manages other systems
implemented on motorways and tunnels, such as:
video monitoring, traffic information, electricity, fire
alarm, hydrant, telephone call, SOS system, radio
diffusion system in the tunnel...
Within the COKP, there are other facilities necessary
for highway the management and maintenance:
the administrative building for safety control,
workshops, gas station, car wash, garages for fire
trucks and cargo vehicles, saltworks, parking and
other ancillary facilities.
In addition to the COKP on Drivuša, the COKP was
built in Zvirići, on the Zvirovići- Bijača section.
Functionally, this COKP has all the same facilities
as the COKP Drivuša, only it is much larger in space,
with more accommodation capacity for vehicles and
equipment, as well as for people.
COKP Zvirići has not yet received its full function
given that the section it monitors is only 10 km
long and is still not managed from this location.
It is realistic to expect that with the construction
of the highway in the south of the country, COKP
Zvirići will be equipped and 24-hour supervision
and management will be established.
