Morning Parental, Sibling and Guardian Drop-Off for grades
5th through 8th:
What has changed:
You will now enter campus
and drive to the Henry Center. The dropoff
will take place in front of the glass
doors leading into the foyer between the
cafeteria and Gymnasium. (Please keep in
mind gate operation hours. We will not allow
early entry for child drop-off or pickup.)
This process will take more time than
in the past since only one vehicle at a time
will be allowed for student passengers to
enter or exit, unless otherwise directed by
GDS staff. As soon as that vehicle leaves,
the next vehicle may pull up and release
its student passengers. Families with children/students
in multiple divisions (lower
and/or middle and/or upper schools)
should plan to drop students off in each
designated campus check-in area. Those
that have face masks will be allowed to
continue using the mask they have. Those
without face masks will be provided with
one. All 5th through 8th graders should
wear a face mask throughout the school
day.
We understand that there may be circumstances
requiring students to have alternatives
to face masks. These students'
concerns will be addressed on a case-bycase
basis with extreme scrutiny for uniformity,
necessity and compliance purposes.
All students will be directed to the foyer
where they will pass through a thermal
temperature check-in station before being
directed to their designated classroom
areas.
Any student that has a temperature reading
of 100.4 degrees or above will be isolated
and re-checked. If their temperature
remains elevated, that student will be taken
to a separate safe holding area for reunification
with their emergency contact
person. 5th-8th grade students, employees,
and visitors who pass through a thermal
scanner and are not flagged for elevated
temperatures or have passed a temperature
recheck will be given a wristband
each day to verify that they have been
checked and approved to stay on campus
before heading to class. If you are seen in
any campus building without a wristband,
you will be asked to go to a selected temperature
scanning location to be checked
and receive a wristband. This applies to
late arrivals as well. Staff assisting in the
recheck process will be required to wear
face masks and gloves. Please refer to our
Health & Wellness section for our return to
campus policy.
Staff assigned to the drop-off / pick-up
process will be required to wear their face
mask at any time they are within 6 feet of
any person.
Afternoon pick-up will be conducted at
the same location as drop-off. Students
will be advised when and where to exit by
Gaston Day School staff. Late arrivals or
those that must be picked-up for offcampus
appointments will go to the PKW
building’s side entrance (with awning) for
check-in and check-out.
