42 GALVANIZINGSpeeding up the processSIEBEC principally offers three tried andtested technologies for the Galvanizingindustry:• Oil removal from the degreasing baths• PUSH-PULL agitation of the Acid picklingbath• Iron removal from the Flux bath.The customer has a 60 m³ volume Fluxtank, running at 50 - 60°C. Unfortunately theyexperience processing quality issues related tothe variation in iron concentration within theflux process.Hot-dip galvanizing pre-treatment requiresthe maintenance of two critical parameters.One being the oxidisation of iron (Fe² to Fe³ )and the second, iron concentration within theflux solution that should be maintained below1 g/l.The SIEBEC solution was to supply and fit 3P51-A30 filters, each fitted with 4 L-TECH50µm pleated cartridges, allowing ironparticles to be extracted from the 60 m³ fluxtank.Thanks to the SIEBEC designed installation,our customer now maintains the ironconcentration in the flux process below thedesired 1 g/l and no longer experiences thequality problems they had been experiencingprior to the P51-A30 filters being installed.The solution has proven to be cost effectiveas the filter media is very quick and easy toclean, minimising waste. The L-TECH re-usablecartridges only need to be replaced every 4 -6months.PUSH-PULL agitationPumped agitation of HCL Pickle tank.SIEBEC developed and designed thistechnique specifically to create a uniform,evenly distributed laminar flow of the pickleacid across the entire surface of the partsanywhere within the tank. This system has theadditional benefit of increasing theeffectiveness of the pickling solution duringthe colder months. When cold, longer picklingimmersion times are required to attain thesame reaction. Alternative technologies are theaddition of air agitation or solution heating butboth of these have an adverse impact on theenvironment and the fabric of the building.Fitting a conventional Eductors system toachieve the same results is problematic asanything at the base of a large acid pickletank is at high risk of being caught by thework and dragged out of the tank.Additionally, PUSH-PULL system demandsignificantly smaller pumps and have provento be an efficient and a robust solution forpickling applications.Benefits of the system• Faster pickling, especially during lowtemperatures when the acid becomes almostinert.• Increased productivity, greater throughput• Improved homogeneous mix of the acid,within the tank.• Minimise air entrapment, improvingquality.Oil removal of floating oils using a coalescerto skim off the surface of the degreasing tank.The benefits of removing the oil are that thedegreasing solution will usually last longer andthe oil is not dragged by the work down theline into other process tanks.SIEBEC has a comprehensive range ofproven products available for filtering,pumping, eductor agitation, dosing, filtermedia, precious metal recovery, ion exchange,organics removal, effluent treatment andvacuuming of process chemistry and wastewater.
