Yes, Let’s Set the Record Straight
CLAIM
In her video and her own words, my opponent claims, “Delays
don’t mean lack of leadership or mismanagement...we have
had to deal with COVID-19, the United States had to deal with
COVID-19, for our community it meant Soldiers and Sailors Park
Project and the delay was worth it because we now have that
specially designed and crafted granite from North Carolina.”

We know Soldiers and Sailors Park was supposed to be
completed in the Spring of 2019, long before COVID-19, but
we will blame COVID-19 because the residents weren’t given
clear and concise updates on the project and won’t know the
difference. But just in case, we will emphasize the shiny new
granite to distract them.”
In her video and in her own words, my opponent claims, “We
pride ourselves on our citizens’ advisory committees that engage
more than 100 citizens... saving the city money that they
wouldn’t otherwise be able to spend on professional services.”
We are generalizing all of the committees and their importance
so it looks like we have sought the citizens’ help. We will
emphasize the accomplishments of the Jitney service and
Performance Parking Meter program so nobody focuses on the
myriad of things we couldn’t accomplish, case in point the public
safety building.
In her own words during the recorded debate, my opponent
stated, “For the past four years we have invited you into the
working of city government so you know what you see is what
you get.”
They stress that the public has been invited into the workings of
government, but there has been no transparency. They have not
even been open and transparent with the other members of the
council, who have been marginalized.
In her video and her own words, my opponent claims, “And
then there’s Lafayette Street Park. We have to deal with the
contamination issue. Without remediation we are not serving the
public.”
Any time someone brings up the delays at Lafayette Street Park
we can just answer soil contamination and remediation because,
even though we have known about it since project inception, it’s
an intricate and extensive topic that we can use as a cop-out.
