Minneapolis College of Art and Design MCAD Online: PSEO Application
ABOUT MINNESOTA's PSEO PROGRAM
The Minnesota State Legislature created the PSEO program in 1985 to give students an
opportunity to pursue educational options and academic challenges not available to them in high
school. The PSEO program lets qualified high school students enroll in classes at post-secondary
institutions. Individual colleges determine the criteria used to admit PSEO students to their
schools.
ABOUT MCAD’s ONLINE PSEO PROGRAM
The MCAD Online PSEO program is intended for exceptional students who are independent
learners, comfortable with internet/email and digital media software. To participate in online
courses (studio projects, research, writing), you must have strong time-management and
technical problem-solving skills. How much work is required? Keep in mind that a 1-credit
course requires a minimum of 50 hours of work. Students accepted to MCAD's Online PSEO
program must work closely with a high school guidance counselor to make sure the classes taken
at MCAD will fulfill their high school graduation requirements. PSEO credits earned at MCAD may
be applied to both your high school graduation requirements and to MCAD's four-year BFA or BS
degree programs.
The MCAD PSEO program is an honors program for high school seniors. To be accepted, you
must demonstrate self-discipline, maturity and a high level of commitment to the visual and liberal
arts. Each semester, the MCAD Admissions Committee will meet and select students from the
pool of completed PSEO applications. Because the PSEO program is competitive, students
admitted into the program are not guaranteed classes from semester to semester.
PLEASE NOTE
ß Interested students must review the Technical Requirements listed on the MCAD Online
website (http://online.mcad.edu) for hardware, software and additional technical
requirements.
ß Acceptance into MCAD's Online PESO program does NOT mean that you will be
accepted to MCAD's four-year BFA or BS degree program. If you want to attend MCAD
to receive a four-year degree, you must apply separately.
ß Continuation in the program is contingent on maintaining a 2.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0
scale) in MCAD classes. PSEO students who fall below a 2.0 GPA will not be allowed to
continue in our program.
ß Many colleges will accept the transfer of PSEO credits earned at other post-secondary
institutions. You must check with individual colleges to find out their policies on accepting
PSEO credits earned at MCAD.
ß A stipend of $50 per 3-credit class for books and art supplies purchased at MCAD's Art
Cellar bookstore will be provided for accepted MCAD Online PSEO students. Any costs
over the $50 stipend are the responsibility of the students and their parents.
ß This information is subject to change without notice subsequent to action by MCAD
and/or the State of Minnesota. This is not a contract.
