READER RESULTS SPECIAL
Levi
Helen Jackson and Leverage
‘Levi’
I acquired Levi after a chance encounter… A private yard had a pony of mine to sell
and whilst visiting them I saw him in the field and completely fell in love with him! He
was a sheer fluke buy, he wasn’t for sale and I wasn’t looking. Levi finished racing at
the age of 5. When I purchased him he had been shown poles and xc jumps and then
was turned away.
Levi is now 13. It has been a long journey with him but we have loved every minute as
he is such a awesome, happy horse!
I compete him in a range of disciplines and together we have gained fantastic results;
including winning the British Dressage RoR Championships at Prelim and Novice level!
Other results include finishing 2nd at the BE RoR 90cm Final, we have been to the
British Dressage Petplan Finals at Prelim level and competed at Blenheim with RoR in
dressage. We have even been at the Championships at Aintree with some good wins
and placings. We are currently back out with BE after a break due to my work and have
had a cracking start to the season, winning our first event at Oasby and a 2nd place at
Norton Disney, both at 90cm. On the 8th of June we went to Speetley and got our first
double clear at 100cm!
‘Scruff’
Scruff
We purchased Scruff from the Tattersalls Sales in November 2017 as a 4 year old. His
last race was in August 2017. He was a very sweet chap when we brought him home
but was very nervous in the stable. After a couple of weeks off we started his retraining,
firstly with lunging. We then Introduced a normal saddle with a rider on him, to allow
him to get used to a rider’s legs the ‘normal’ way of riding. I think the most challanging
part with him (and our other ex-racehorses) was the mounting from a mounting block -
it was alien to them! Once we had established trot and canter, we started going to a few
local dressage events and he seemed to really enjoy his dressage.
He can be very nervous and gets quite upset if he gets something wrong! We have had
to be patient with him. Scruff thrives on being rewarded, he will then try his heart out for
you. He really is such a joy to work with.
Scruff has competed at many dresssage events and is now starting to compete at
Unaffiliated Elementary level. He has won the RoR trophy at our local riding club and
the summer dressage points trophy, plus came 3rd in the Great Midlands Horse Show
Championship - which was just amazing. Scruff has recently started his jumping
education.
Scruff is just amazing around my children, they help groom him and he loves chatting to
them over the door and getting lots of kisses! He has such a kind heart.
