FRL
Modular compressed air purification.
The quality demands on compressed air
purity are set by the individual components.
With a centralized purification the
entire compressed air generated has to be
purified to meet the quality requirements
of the most sensitive application. Local
compressed air treatment with ultrafilter
FRL units supplies each individual application
exactly with air quality required and
therefore avoids costly superqualification
of compressed air for low demand purposes.
Decentralized compressed air purification
can decrease operation costs, especially
in the case, where only a few applications
require higher qualities.
Step by step – the purification process
The distinctive advantage of the ultrafilter
FRL is the various combinations which
offer individual solutions for every application.
The ultrafilter purification chain starts with
a Filter/Water separator. It retains bulk
particle contamination by a sieve effect
and contains a cyclone separator to remove
water and oil droplets from the compressed
air.
The filter/water separator prevents the following
high efficiency filter from bulk contami-nants,
and therefore avoids pollution
related problems like short overall lifetime
or high differential pressures.
The next important step on your way to
compressed air purified exactly to the individual
requirement is filtration.Depending
on inlet as well as outlet parameters filtration
can be designed purely as a one stage
FRL component but also up to a severalstage
maximum retention device.
ultrafilter offers the proven submicrofilter
SMF with patented binderfree filter
medium ultrair, already in the standard ver-
sion. High volume flows, low differential
pressure and high dirt retention capacities
allow these filters to fulfil all requirements
concerning highest operation scurity and
optimzed economy.
The Plus from ultrafilter – dry compressed
air
Leaving the last filtration stage the compressed
air is free of particles, oil and
water but far from being dry. ultrafilter has
therefore integrated their proven membrane
dryer in the FRL system.
Air coming from the filters enters the integrated
dryer and is led through the centre
of a bundle of hollow fibres. Moisture diffuses
across the semi-permeable membranes
as air moves through the centre of
the hollow fibre bundle. A small portion of
the dried compressed air is led back over
the outside of the fibre bundle and vented
to atmosphere via outlets. The dry air produced
leaves the system in order to drive
the application or to enter the next purification
step.
Always the right pressure.
Different pneumatic components usually
require different operation pressures. The
purified compressed air comes with an
Modular Compressed Air Purification with integrated Dryer:
VarioDry FRL

operating pressure generated in a central
compressor station. The operating pressure
has to become adjusted to the individual
pneumatic components. An implemented
regulator ensures that the maximum
pressure for the pneu-matic component
will not be exceeded and eliminates the
transmission of pressure shock waves.
No bitter aftertaste.
After filtration and drying the purified compressed
air still contains oil and water
aerosols and odour. If the following pneumatic
components requires absolutely oilfree
compressed air, e.g. in food industry,
these aerosols must be eliminated by an
activated carbon filter.
ultrafilter Oil Mist Lubricator – and everything
will work out fine.
Usually pneumatic cylinders and actuators
depend on a constant amount of lubricated
compressed air in order to do their job
with the required precision and repeating
accuracy. These pneumatic components
therefore depend on a certain amount of
mist lubricator ensures function of
pneumatic components and improves operation
time.
Postfilter AK
Housing with activated carbon filter AK
The adsorption filter AK offers double
security. Adsorption of steam and gaseous
carbons and odours effects by a two-stage
activated carbon filter media.
The adsorption by two stages offers a
higher adsorption surface, extended operation
time and higher efficiency. A stainless
steel support mesh and the filter
medium fix the activated carbon and
ensure that no carbon can leave the filter.
