BA IN BEHAVIORAL
NEUROSCIENCE
Behavioral Neuroscience examines the role of
the nervous system in behavior. MMC’s BA in
Behavioral Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary
and interdepartmental major combining courses in
psychology, biology, chemistry, math, and speechlanguage
pathology and audiology. You will gain an
in-depth understanding of the rapidly expanding field of
neuroscience. The program emphasizes the real-world
applications of neuroscience to scientific, health, social,
political, cultural, and ethical issues. This practical
emphasis will give you insight into improving quality of
life for diverse communities, especially for vulnerable
populations. As a student in the program, you will be
given preference to gain practical research experience
on campus at the MMC Music, Mind, and Brain
Laboratory or offsite at some of the most renowned
neuroscience laboratories in New York City. Students
who complete this major may pursue careers in the fields
of art and dance therapy, or seek advanced degrees. Our
major in Behavioral Neuroscience will provide you with a
multidisciplinary foundation, making you competitive for
acceptance into professional and academic programs.
In addition, it will prepare you to become an active
participant in providing solutions to world issues under
the scope of neuroscience.

BS IN BIOLOGY
MMC’s BS in Biology prepares you to become a
research scientist or to enter graduate school in any
field of life science. It also provides a broad foundation
for entrance to medical, dental, veterinary, or physician
assistant programs.
Participation in this program offers many opportunities
to distinguish yourself as an undergraduate: enjoy small
class sizes, the potential for research opportunities with
faculty, and many participate in internships at one of
the many prestigious hospitals and medical centers in
New York City. Students are also encouraged to conduct
research on and off campus, and many have presented
their research findings at regional and national
conferences. We also have linkage agreements with
both Touro College of Osteopathy and Touro College
of Pharmacy to help students get a jump start on their
careers in biomedicine.
As a result of these experiences, our alumni have
excellent outcomes, and graduate prepared to enter and
thrive in their career or program of choice.

BS IN BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES
MMC’s BS in Biomedical Sciences is a competitive,
interdisciplinary program combining core courses in
biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, psychology,
and sociology. The curriculum provides you with the
prerequisites to enter medical, veterinary, and allied health
professional schools. This program is designed to allow
you to double-major in other fields, such as Psychology or
Dance, while preparing you for a career in health sciences.
Most students in the program participate in internships
and volunteer positions at one of the many prestigious
hospitals and medical centers in New York City. Students
are also encouraged to conduct research on and off
campus, and many have presented their research findings
at regional and national conferences. We also have linkage

BA IN HUMAN
BIOLOGY,
HEALTH AND
SOCIETY
MMC’s new BA in Biology: Human Biology, Health and
Society major is an excellent choice for those interested
in the various health science professions. This major
offers four different career-focused tracks: Biotechnology,
Environmental Health, Public Health, and Movement
Science. This major will prepare students for successful
careers in burgeoning fields such as epidemiology,
biotechnology, physical therapy, and environmental health.
TRACKS IN THE MAJOR
▶ Biotechnology: prepares students for careers in biomedical
science labs and allows our students to leverage our large
Biology alumni network in the NYC area.
▶ Environmental Health: prepares students for a variety of
careers in this emerging health field.
▶ Public Health: enhances the scientific basis for public health
training while incorporating psychology, social science,
philosophy, and public policy aspects of the field.
▶ Movement Science: leverages our strong connection with
the Dance department to prepare students for a variety
of professional programs by providing science-focused

ENVIRONMENTAL
STUDIES
As the most populous city in the United States, New York provides the ideal
classroom to study environmental issues and sustainable development. Our
Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies brings together perspectives
from the humanities, the natural sciences, and the social sciences to
devise sustainable solutions to environmental problems. Environmental
Studies majors spend time outdoors, conducting field work in the city
and focusing on issues unique to the urban environment. Students take
advantage of unique internship and volunteer opportunities in public policy,
environmental conservation, and urban resource management. This major
prepares students for careers in urban planning, public policy, environmental
consulting, education, advocacy, and environmental health.

PSYCHOLOGY
MMC’s BA in Psychology examines human nature through
a scientific lens. The curriculum explores emotions,
personality, development, health and wellness, brain
mechanisms, and other aspects of human functioning
and behavior. This degree prepares you for careers in
psychology, counseling, social work, neuroscience,
nursing, medicine, law, business, human resource
management, and other areas.
The Department of Psychology benefits from
full-time faculty members in the diverse areas of
clinical, developmental, personality, health, forensic,
neuroscience, social, and experimental psychology.

BA IN SPEECH-
LANGUAGE
PATHOLOGY
AND AUDIOLOGY
The Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology program provides
you with an understanding of normal language development and
the theoretical bases underlying speech, language, and hearing;
communication disorders, including problems in hearing, language,
articulation, voice, and fluency; the evaluation and management of
these disorders; and the professional roles of the speech-language
pathologist and audiologist. You will gain clinical experience at
the undergraduate level at our free on-site speech and hearing
clinic, the Ruth Smadbeck Communication and Learning Center.
Additional clinical, research, and teaching assistantships and
internship opportunities are available, including the opportunity to
study American Sign Language (ASL) and to engage in ASL–based
research and internships. Our small classes promote individualized
learning, and you will graduate with impressive experiences and
skills that will qualify you for many graduate school programs in
speech-language pathology and audiology. Many of our alumni have
gone on to work in various settings in the field including schools,
hospitals, private practices, and academia. This program can also
prepare students to go into fields outside of speech pathology,
such as education, English as a Foreign Language, voice coaching,
Applied Behavioral Analysis therapy, and many others.
