Time to start
thinking netball
News
Local sports associations have started their
recruitment drives for the 2021 season,
with netball clubs announcing their registrations
will commence on January 1.
Mona Vale Commodores Netball Club has
more than 50 years of playing history. Club
Vice President Jen Fitzpatrick says its administration
focuses on providing a safe and fun environment
for players to develop their skills,
gain confidence and build friendships.
“Our club welcomes players of all ages and
we are committed to encouraging both boys
and girls to join our club,” Jen said.
“In 2020, we had our first young male
player, Matthew, join our U10s team; he had a
fantastic season. We’d love to see more young
boys like Matt join and wear the red, white and
blue!” Mona Vale Commodores teams train
in Mona Vale and Warriewood, and have a
strong base of junior players that attend Mona
Vale Public School and Sacred Heart Catholic
School in Mona Vale. Player numbers are growing
year on year; online registrations for the
2021 Winter Competition open on January 1
at monavale.nsw.netball.com.au. More on the
website or call Jen on 0422 808 878.
Pittwater Peninsula Netball, one of the
largest netball clubs within Manly Warringah
Netball Association, similarly opens its player
registrations on January 1.
“No matter if you are 6 or 70 we would love
to welcome you,” said club secretary Susan
Fisk. “We cater to all abilities and ensure that
every player is in the right team for their skill
level, whether that is only for fun and fitness
with old and new friends, learning new skills or
developing existing ones to play competitively.”
At PPN, players as young as 6-7years of age
PICK YOUR TEAM: Mona Vale (above) and PPN (below).
start with the NetSetGO eight-week introduction
clinic in May/June, where basic netball
skills are taught and hand-to-eye coordination
and agility is enhanced.
Teams of eight- and nine-year-old players participate
in a weekly Saturday competition with
modified rules in an ungraded environment.
At 10 years, participants are graded into
teams and play the full rules of netball against
other clubs within the MWNA until 18 years,
after which time there is a senior competition.
