New marine rescue vessel
a boost to water safety
The waterways of the northern beaches will be safer after
the official commissioning of a new $613,000 rescue vessel
for Marine Rescue NSW, ahead of the busy summer season.
NSW Minister for Police and Emergency Services David
Elliott joined Member for Pittwater Rob Stokes and Marine
Rescue NSW Commissioner Stacey Tannos to officially
welcome the new vessel, Broken Bay 30, to the MRNSW fleet.
Marine Rescue Broken Bay Unit Commander Jimmy Arteaga
thanked the State Government and the local community for
its support in helping to fund the vessel, which is named
after long-standing unit member Michael Seale. “The State
Government last year gave residents the opportunity to vote
for the projects they wanted to see funded in their local area
through the My Community Projects grants program,” he
said. “The fantastic community in the Pittwater electorate
really got behind our volunteers and voted for our new
rescue vessel. As a result, we received a $200,000 grant
towards the cost of the boat. It’s powerful and highlymanoeuvrable
and means we can be on the scene of an
emergency faster than ever, which is vital when minutes can
be the difference between life and death on the water.”
