Fairy Lights 

and Feta Tale 

Christmas is most definitely not going to be the 

same this year, even for a grinch like me, it’s going 

to be a bit weird. If you have ever read my tales you 

will know that this isn’t my favourite time of year. 

Having said that, as I’ve got older, I do now quite 

enjoy some of the traditions a bit more. 

I have always dreaded putting the tree up. With 

the decorating skills of a toddler, it’s a job I detest. 

Getting the fairy lights right has always been my 

achilles heel. However, this year after one failed 

attempt, enough was enough. I googled the question 

and sat watching a YouTube video while some 

American guy showed me that the lights need to 

be put on from the bottom up. WHAT??? Why did 

I not know this??? 26 years of tantrums and tears 

all for the sake of a quick video clip. So, I gave it a 

go. Calmly, with George Michael telling me that last 

Christmas he gave me his heart. And it WORKED!!! 

Bells rang out, angels sang and Noddy screamed ITS 

CHRIIIISTMAAAAS. You can thank me later. 

Fully fired up with a totally misplaced sense of 

confidence in my new found decorating skills, I 

decided to go all crafty and Kirsty. After collecting 

some holly sprigs from the woods, I attempted to 

arrange them in a pretty wreath. What a waste of 

time. After getting pricked to within an inch of my 

life, it was a pathetic thing to behold. Determined 

not to be beaten, I re-hashed them into some little 

posies and hung them around the sitting room. Noone 

noticed them for a few hours, then after some 

guffawing and head shaking, Gary quietly collected 

them up and chucked them in the compost bin 

and they were never spoken of again. The ups and 

downs of Christmas, right there. 

Another firm festive favourite of mine is a good 

mooch around a Christmas market while sipping a 

mulled cider or two. 

They do have a habit of turning me into a 

spendaholic lunatic though. Three bars of chocolate 

for a tenner – go on then. Scented candle for £30 – 

I’ll have two please! Mysterious wooden object for 

£40 – errr no thanks. If you have to ask what it is, 

you probably don’t need it and neither will anyone 

else. 

Talking of spendaholic lunatics, Gedling put on a 

really good Christmas market last year. Loads of 

lovely stalls with some delicious goodies. While 

discussing the merits of various chocolate brownies 

with an old mate, Gary headed towards the olive 

stall, like a lamb to the slaughter… Five minutes later 

he wandered towards me looking 

dazed and confused holding a 

stack of plastic tubs. Now the 

proud owner of a huge block 

of feta cheese, a selection 

of fat olives and a ton of 

marinated garlic cloves. 

Marinated garlic cloves??? 

What in the name of all things 

Greek do I need them for??? 

Trying not to start a row in the middle of town, I 

calmly asked how much it all cost. Only sixteen 

quid, came the sheepish reply. Only. Sixteen. Quid. 

And he wasn’t even drunk! Totally bamboozled by 

the excellent salesman who kept popping sample 

after sample into his gullible face, Gary then felt 

obliged to buy half the stall! What an idiot. Those 

flipping garlic cloves sat in our fridge for weeks, 

reminding me every time I opened the door that I 

was living with a halfwit.

Authentic French 

restaurant in 

the heart of 

Nottingham 

With plenty of restaurants sadly not 

surviving after lock down its great to 

know that one of Nottingham's long established 

restaurants is still going strong and full every 

night. Bistrot Pierre is an authentic French 

restaurant in the heart of Nottingham. Housed in 

an old bank on Milton Street it is steeped in character and 

charm. I have eaten in a number of their restaurants in 

Derby, Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon as well as 

Nottingham. In fact, I even had my 50th birthday meal in 

the private dining room upstairs (a great idea if there is a 

few of you). Safe to say I love this place! 

Actually, this was the first time I had dined out at Bistrot 

Pierre since restaurants have been re-opened. I am glad 

to say they have really made it feel a safe space to dine, 

I was especially impressed with the new screens which 

instantly made it feel safe yet you still felt part of the 

busy, buzzy atmosphere. 

Although Bistrot Pierre keep regulars happy with timeless 

classics like the Brioche starter with mushrooms and 

bacon and the melt in the mouth Boeuf Bourguignon, 

they also continually introduce new dishes to the menu 

keeping it fresh and interesting. They now offer an all 

day menu which includes a pre fixe option 2/3 courses 

£12.95/£14.95 from 12pm to 6pm. For value for money they 

are truly hard to beat. Also, if you want somewhere special 

to celebrate Christmas with your friends and family then 

Bistrot Pierre is definitely the place 

to go, not only for their food but their 

beautifully decorated bistrots are as wellknown 

as the Christmas John Lewis ad. 

Our host was the charming Ricardo 

who talked us through the menu with 

a knowledge and enthusiasm that 

showed he clearly loved his job. We went 

for a mix of old favourites and specials. 

For our starters we chose deep-fried 

brie (amazing!) along with the brioche 

(always amazing!!). We also ordered 

the delightful honey roasted mini 

chorizo's, a dish we order every time; great for sharing. 

Mains next. I've got to say my steak- frites was cooked to 

perfection, perfectly pink just as I like it. The honeyglazed 

pork medallions with Dijon beurre blanc served 

with dauphinoise potatoes and French beans was so 

tender and very tasty. The dessert menu caused us some 

consternation but in a nice way... we chose the cheese a 

board and the most delicious chocolate brownie served 

with warm chocolate sauce and salted caramel ice cream. 

By this point we could hardly move! Bistrot Pierre have got 

it bang on. From the complimentary freshly baked French 

bread basket with 

French butter that 

appears on your table 

to the amazing wine 

menu, these guys 

know their stuff. The 

food is outstanding, 

teamed with a great 

atmosphere and 

wonderful staff 

it is easy to see 

why they are still 

going strong after 

25 years!

Things still look far from the usual as

checking out The Village in Mansfield (4 

Dec) and Strelley Hall (12 Dec). 

Young Driver will be running events at 

Nottingham’s Clifton South Tram Park 

& Ride on 13th December and 10th 

January. Young Driver provides driving 

lessons for 10-17 yrs. Pupils are in brand 

new dual controlled Vauxhall Corsas

learn how to set off, change gear, brake, 

park and manoeuvre. The focus is on

Elf is the perfect Christmas film to 

lift your spirits. 

It boasts what is probably Will Ferrell’s best and 

most iconic performance besides Anchorman. 

The casting of him in the role of Buddy, a giddy, 

optimistic human who believes he is an elf, 

leads to some absolutely hilarious situations. 

We see a great contrast once Buddy enters 

New York, when his bright personality clashes 

with the mundanity of everyday life, lending 

itself to some very clever writing. 

It also serves as a great setup for the film’s 

core message of feeling happy even in dark 

situations. We see Buddy change the lives of 

many people he comes across who start off as 

bitter or cold and learn to see the positive side 

of themselves and others. 

It makes Elf incredibly uplifting and easy going 

as a viewing experience that both kids and 

adults can get something out of. It’s just a heartwarming 

experience and I feel the optimism 

that the film centres around is done to a level 

not often seen in movies nowadays that tend 

to have a negative spin on their stories. Elf 

manages to be a very cheerful and wholesome 

Christmas film throughout.

DIE HARD 

If you agree Die Hard deserves 

to be put near the top of the list 

of Christmas films then welcome 

to the party, pal. 

This iconic milestone in the Hollywood 

blockbuster is every bit as gripping and 

spectacular today in all its claustrophobic, 

nail-biting glory. Alan Rickman’s display of 

snobbery as a villain who holds a building 

hostage is almost as iconic as the film’s 

over-the-top machine-gunning action and 

building jumps. 

Standing in his way is Bruce Willis’ crown 

role as the counteracting sole-surviving 

cop, which is just as entertaining, as Bruce 

finds himself in a concrete jungle where 

only the strongest survive. But strongest 

doesn’t necessarily mean having the most 

firepower, as he crawls through vents 

and elevator shafts, using the building’s 

environment to his barefooted advantage. 

But through all this film’s top-notch action 

and witty dialogue, it’s the nerve-wracking 

silent tension between shootouts as Bruce 

desperately tries to evade detection in a 

variety of cinematic environments, that 

sticks the most. 

If the Grinch sounds a bit mellow for your 

hot-chocolate-sipping Christmas afternoon 

and, for some reason, you haven’t seen 

Bruce Willis jump from an exploding 

skyscraper yet, put this genre-defining 

classic on.

Chilly winter days, and what could be more welcome 

than a nice bowl of soup – or perhaps even better a 

mugful, that you can clasp in cold hands and feel your 

inside and your outside being warmed up at the same 

time. 

Soup has been a staple food for centuries. It is 

filling and satisfying and keeps away the hunger 

pangs because it contains a lot of liquid. It remains 

in the stomach for a relatively long time and gives a 

comfortable feeling of fullness for hours. 

Soup can be made out of 

practically anything edible, 

and in any combination. 

Making soup is incredibly 

simple: you pile all the 

ingredients into a big pot, 

add water and simmer 

gently for hours and hours. 

It can be eaten just as 

it comes out of the pan, 

full of interesting lumps that need a good chew. After 

a hearty bowlful of that, you will be in no doubt that 

you’ve had your dinner. Alternatively, the soup may 

be liquidised until there is not a lump in sight but it is 

still thick and satisfying. Or, by sieving and straining, 

it can be transformed to a perfectly clear liquid called 

consommé. 

or mistake your bouillabaisse for borscht. In soup 

circles, these things matter. 

Whether you are new to soup making or an old hand, 

one thing we can all do, when we have stripped the 

meat off the Christmas turkey, is put the carcass into 

a big pan with a large onion sliced in two, a handful of 

pearl barley or lentils, a sprinkling of mixed herbs and 

water to cover it all. Bring to the boil and let it bubble 

away until bedtime, then leave it to cool overnight. 

In the morning, skim the surface to remove whatever 

has floated up to the top, then gently ladle out the 

liquid. And there you have turkey stock, which you can 

heat up and enjoy just as it is, or use as the basis for 

any other kind of soup you might fancy.

Heucheras and their friends, 

tiarellas, are among the most 

popular foliage plants for a shady 

garden these days with lots of new 

varieties, new leaf colours and 

patterns being introduced each 

year. However, heucheras started 

their horticultural story being grown 

and bred for the cut flower trade 

with masses of pink, white or red 

bells along stiff wiry stems up to 2 

1/2ft / 75cm long. 

Heucheras and tiarellas are 

still valued for their flowers but 

new varieties tend to produce 

far shorter stems and sometimes 

the flowers are insignificant 

with the interest coming solely 

from the leaves. Heucheras and 

tiarellas are so closely related 

that they can cross pollenate 

creating the heucherella hybrids. 

Tellima is another closely related 

plant represented by a single 

species “grandiflora”. These are 

unassuming plants, but tough and 

long flowering with fringed bells 

in greenish white with a ruby red 

edge. 

Heucheras, tiarellas, tellimas and 

their hybrids are all woodland 

plants and shallow rooted so do 

best in humus-rich soils that retain 

some moisture in summer and are 

partly shaded from the hot sun. 

Some shade is essential for those 

with the most highly coloured 

leaves to avoid scorching. I 

find that tellima is more drought 

tolerant and takes deeper shade 

than the others. None like being 

waterlogged in winter. 

Propagation is by division 

(essential for named varieties) 

in autumn or spring or by seed 

sown in heat for the species and 

for raising new varieties, but 

germination can be slow. 

In early spring give the plants a 

good tidy up, removing dead, 

damaged and old leaves. You 

can also cut back hard any 

untidy woody shoots. The tips of 

the shoots can make cuttings for 

new plants. After a few years 

Heucheras and heucherellas 

tend to form an almost woody 

mass as their base and produce 

untidy growth; so, lift and divide, 

replanting the young shoots 

which will quickly root. Tellimas 

and tiarellas seem less prone to 

becoming woody. 

Another, less enjoyable spring 

task is to check for vine weevil 

grubs feasting on the roots. If 

the leaves are small, dry or 

browning at the edge and the 

plant is not firmly rooted then pull 

it out and search the soil for the 

small, brown-headed, legless 

white grubs and destroy them or 

feed to your garden robin. This is 

particularly a problem in wet soils 

or when growing in containers. 

In containers you can use a 

biological control in the form of 

microscopic nematodes watered 

into the soil. You need both a 

summer and a winter type to get 

complete control. 

In summer remove spent flower 

stems by breaking them off at the 

joint with the plant rather than 

cutting as this encourages repeat 

blooming. 

Heucheras and their friends blend 

well with other garden plants 

and flowers and give interest 

throughout the year. In spring the 

fresh growth is highly coloured; 

in summer and autumn flowers 

enhance the show and in winter 

the leaves edged with frost give a 

magical, glittering effect. Coupled 

with the ease of propagation and 

constant stream of new varieties 

they are a good buy for the 

garden and pot culture and light 

up many a shady spot.

A year ago I sat here writing an article 

for this publication as we entered 

2020 and I headlined it Welcome 

to a New Decade. In it I saw some 

of the challenges facing us as the 

growing skills gap / Brexit / economic 

uncertainty on the High Street. 

I didn’t forecast the chaos that 2020 has wreaked upon 

us - with repercussions that haven’t bypassed many 

families I suspect. It’s been a tough one and as I write it 

isn’t over by a long stretch. 

There have been small pockets of positivity this year 

which made the dark days more bearable. Communities 

coming together and supporting others…small acts 

of daily kindness which possibly would have gone 

unnoticed at other times…and time. Last year it was 

recorded that “people in the UK work some of the 

longest hours in Europe”. 

Lockdown has given us all time to reflect and reevaluate 

which is hard under normal circumstances 

when you are on that daily treadmill of routine. I know 

friends who are choosing to downsize for a simpler 

lifestyle. Others are retraining to chase an old dream 

that got lost along the way. 

In terms of our industry there are glimmers of recovery 

in some sectors. The pandemic has changed the 

landscape of recruitment for sure but we must all adapt 

and evolve. And that includes the next generation and 

their expectations. It is time for realism in terms of our 

advice and support for them. In a changing world our 

careers provision must be focused, achievable and 

consistent. 

This Christmas I hope you will all find some peace and 

tranquillity within your homes as we come together 

to spend time with our special people. The hype and 

extravagance of previous years has maybe been 

reduced and with it the stress levels that it can induce 

trying to achieve some sort of festive nirvana. 

Wherever you are in this great city of ours I wish you 

health, happiness and peace of mind not only over the 

holiday period but also during the coming year and its 

challenges.

Secure your Christmas tree 

We at Scarsdale Vets want Christmas 

to be not only a happy and enjoyable 

time for you and your family, but also 

for your household pets. Here are 

some top tips to keep your pets safe 

and content this holiday: 

Firstly make sure that your tree is secure so that it can’t be 

easily pulled over. Also try to hide or cover electricity cables 

for Christmas lights so that they are not easily accessible 

to chew. Food items shouldn’t be left beneath the tree to 

tempt pets. Amazingly we do see the odd animal every 

year with pine needles stuck in their foot causing irritation 

or infection. Try to keep the floor around the tree clear of 

needles and restrict access for pets to the room where the 

Christmas tree is kept.

Decorations are lovely but should always be placed away 

from easy access for animals. Ribbons or tinsel when 

ingested can cause gut obstructions. Mistletoe is also 

poisonous when eaten or chewed. 

Give your pet the right treat 

Giving your pet the occasional treat is fine, so long as they 

are given in moderation. Small bits of chicken or turkey 

are fine and generally well tolerated by many healthy 

animals. If your pet is on a prescription diet we even have 

recipe’s available for you to make your own treats out of 

their food…..please feel free to contact the surgery for 

more details. Chocolate, some nuts and dried fruit (raisins, 

sultanas and currents) should all be avoided as they can 

prove very toxic to dogs. 

Give your pet space to relax 

Christmas can be a stressful period not only for us adults, 

but also for our pets. Just giving your pet a space to escape 

away from activity can be a real help to relieve stress. Come 

in and ask us for advice if this is a concern. 

Care exercising your pet 

Keep your dogs wrapped up, warm and dry this winter with

should be taken in exercising your dogs in icy conditions, 

especially around lakes or ponds, where putting them on

rehoming the girls

5.30 am and there’s frost 

on the ground. Brrrr 

A shivering team of hardy 

volunteers, who have driven 

from all over the country to 

rendezvous the night before, 

open the first vast barn and 

there, waiting, with blinking 

eyes are.... well anything up 

to 3500...hens. 

And so the job begins... 

For the previous month, volunteers around the 

country have been advertising and promoting this 

rehoming. Everywhere there is footfall, we try to make 

folk aware. Every selling site, vet, supermarket etc. 

Homes MUST be found for all the girls. It’s part of the 

agreement, all or nothing. If we don’t step in then that 

18 month old hen, and all her friends, will be on the 

slaughter wagon and will end up as a cheap meat pie, 

or dog food. 

18 months old. Years of laying life ahead. Years of 

scratching in the earth, sunbathing, showing off their 

wonderful characters, laying fresh eggs for their 

humans. Years and years of being A LOVING PET. 

The barn, with all its inhabitants is often one of many. 

If so, next weekend we will go through it all again, and 

again. Until every girl finds her forever home. 

Empty crates are piled high. Hired vans of all 

description clog the farm drive. 10 girls to a crate. 

Counted meticulously as each van will only carry 

exactly the number reserved at its collection points. 

Hundreds of hens to a van, 3, 4 or even 5 drop offs lie 

ahead for the driver and mate. Hundreds of miles of 

driving. It’s going to be a long day. To be continued.....

RADCLIFFE ON TRENT MALE VOICE CHOIR - locked down 

but bouncing “Backup”. As Christmas approaches, lockdown 

has curtailed the Radcliffe MVC Christmas concerts. 

However the choir hasn’t been idle. They still practice 

online via Zoom and remain in good spirits. What really lifts 

their spirits is raising funds for the charities they support. 

Proceeds from the 2019 Christmas concert, £2,174, were 

donated to “Backup” a charity that has supported a choir 

member in the past. “Backup” supports those recovering 

from spinal injury. 

We can’t wait to start performing again to raise more money 

for “Backup” and the other charities we support.

It doesn’t matter who you are or 

where you work, everyone is looking 

for ways to be more productive in 

their personal and professional lives. 

With life getting busier generally, 

there is never enough time to do 

everything, but there is always time 

to do what is most important to 

you. And let’s face it, the feeling of a 

productive day is exhilarating. 

1. Sleep 

An obvious one, but getting an optimal amount 

of sleep doesn’t just boost your mood and infuse 

your body with extra energy, it can also improve 

your performance, focus and concentration. 

Spend some time the evening before getting 

organised for the morning. Set out your work 

clothes, pack your bag, write your to-do list, 

so when you do get into bed you have a better 

chance of being rested and ready for a good 

quality night’s sleep. 

(tip: set your alarm to your favourite song rather 

than the painful apple alarm tone for a happier 

awakening!) 

2. An easy workable to-do list 

Whether it’s on a tech-savvy app or a scrap of 

paper, organising your overwhelming stack of

When you are no longer in full time work or raising 

a family – we call it your third age – U3A gives you 

opportunities to develop your interests, make new 

friends and have fun. 

Most people are optimistic of a good retirement but 

the reality is that many of us can be a bit worried 

about retaining our physical and mental abilities. 

Keeping active is absolutely critical to a happy and 

healthy life. 

There are more than 1,000 U3As in the UK including 

34 in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Each U3A 

runs itself with an elected committee of volunteers 

who keep costs low. Utilising our ever-improving 

IT skills, many activities can operate despite social 

distancing restrictions. 

Every U3A has a variety of interest groups. Some of 

these are study groups such as learning a language. 

Other popular topics include family history, local 

history, various aspects of literature, film and theatre 

to name but a few. Popular creative groups include 

writing, photography and crafts. Gardening, walking 

and cycling are firm favourites. You can even start 

your own group.

The saying, if you don’t use it, you lose it, might 

well apply to the game of bowls. 

After a Covid ravaged season and with the closing 

of our local council bowls green, the prospects for 

our club, like many Nottinghamshire bowls clubs in a 

similar position, hang in the balance. 

A smattering of away friendly matches toward 

the end of the season, following strict distancing 

rules, kept interest alive and with the promised cooperation 

from Broxtowe council, we hope to return 

to Coronation Park Green next season. 

Many older people share the struggles our families 

are having and try not to be a burden, but many of 

us have missed social contact combined with taking 

exercise outdoors. 

To the credit of Nottingham Indoor Bowls Club, a 

strict distancing regime has allowed indoor play up to 

late October, when Nottingham went into Tier 3, high 

risk status, but we hope play will resume again soon. 

Perhaps a weary public faced with many restrictions 

will see the take up of bowls and local sport as an 

enjoyable option and stimulate a resurgence of the 

game. 

The Greasley MW Bowls Club is examining its options 

and working towards a brighter 2021.

Rushcliffe Community and Voluntary Service 

(RCVS) is stepping up its urgent appeal for more 

volunteers, to counter the impact of Covid-19 in 

Nottinghamshire. 

Almost 800 vulnerable people have been supported 

by RCVS since the coronavirus lockdown started 

in March. Services include helping with shopping 

or collecting prescriptions, transport for those who 

would otherwise be stuck at home, and telephone 

befriending to counter social isolation. 

Over 6,000 individual support services have been 

provided so far and we don’t think that the need is 

going away anytime soon! 

However, more volunteers are needed to meet 

ongoing demand. This is because two thirds of the 

145 successfully recruited by RCVS earlier in the 

pandemic are no longer available. As a result, there’s 

a waiting list for the telephone befriending service 

and the charity’s voluntary transport scheme is 

providing essential journeys only. Volunteers for the 

shopping and prescription service and to help people 

access other essential support are still needed. 

Volunteering is open to people from all walks of life, 

who want to make a difference. Those recruited by 

RCVS have included teenagers, students, people in a 

wide range of trades and professions, those seeking 

work and people who have retired.

In partnership with the Mayor of Broxtowe Cllr 

Janet Patrick, Citizens Advice Broxtowe want 

to create a lasting record of Broxtowe during a 

mayoral year like no other. 

The Mayor is asking people to send Citizens Advice 

their short thoughts on what the pandemic has 

meant to them. It’s not all been negative, amongst the 

sorrow of lost loved ones, illness and isolation there 

have been heart-warming stories of the community 

coming together to help people less fortunate and 

those that have had to shield. Lots of imaginative 

fundraising for charities and the NHS has taken place 

and many people found new ways to keep in touch or 

continue working through technology.

Christmas can be a difficult time for many families with budgets stretched. However, this year is likely to see 

even more financial pressures on families as the economic impact of the pandemic bites. We have recently 

seen a large rise in unemployment and further redundancies are on the way according to figures from the 

Insolvency Service. Citizens Advice’s own research carried out in September 2020 identified that a significant 

number of families are already struggling to pay 

essential bills with an estimated 6 million adults 

having fallen behind with at least one debt. 

Despite the grim news Citizens Advice Broxtowe’s 

Development Manager, Neil Clurow explains. “Help 

is at hand and it is important to ensure that people 

who are worried about budgeting, have been 

made redundant or their income is reduced by the 

coronavirus pandemic seek help in knowing what 

they entitled to, understand their rights and access 

budgeting advice.”

With Christmas approaching, and in the midst of 

a global pandemic, it’s important to address the 

way we are feeling during this time of uncertainty. 

Specifically in correlation to young minds within 

the UK. 

Teenage mental health: a subject we are extensively 

aware of, yet hesitant in talking about. The way we 

feel and the way we are wired, are not always within 

our control. 

Young people can be under enormous amounts 

of pressure academically and socially, causing a 

damaging expectation to succeed in the minds 

of students. Do we really offer extensive support, 

mentally, to all students? Even the quiet ones? 

On average, 1 in 5 young people suffer from 

mental illness in the UK, a staggering amount to 

say how little we address the topic. Encouraging 

open conversations and normalising seeking 

help, can vastly impact the number of teens who 

come forward and better their lives. We need to 

make teens see that admitting they need help is 

immensely brave and courageous and not a sign of 

failure. 

The media, especially social media, can be guilty of 

portraying mental health issues in a light hearted 

way which can be harmful for young people who are 

highly impressionable and may then be reluctant to 

come forward with genuine concerns. Dodie Clarke, 

a singer-songwriter, was hesitant in opening up 

about her own struggles with mental health, saying 

many of her fans who idolise her, began to copy 

and mimic her behaviour. However, it is important 

that celebrities are open and honest about their 

struggles, without glamorising them. It can really 

help young people to relate to someone they identify 

with. For example, recently Freddie Flintoff was on 

TV talking about his struggles with bulimia, this can 

only be a good thing. Professor Green has also been 

very open with his struggles with mental health. 

Debunking the stigma can highlight areas of teenage 

mental health we have abandoned, such as anxiety 

and depression. Personally, as a teenager myself, I 

can tell you: there’s always someone who will listen 

and you are not alone. 

Maybe you’ve recently been feeling extremely 

anxious or potentially struggling with depressive 

thoughts. It’s important for you to acknowledge that 

starting a conversation with someone you trust, can 

only help the situation get better. 

Maybe you’re a parent reading this. If your child 

expresses their worries or asks for help - please be 

kind to them. The bravery accompanied with such 

exposure should be handled delicately, not with 

frustration or anger or worse, dismissed completely. 

Any issue, any distress, any troubles are all valid. You 

are not a burden, nor are you being dramatic, you are 

simply encouraging a conversation that can help you 

tremendously. You have the ability to be brave. Start 

that conversation.
