Contest<br />

The United States Coast <strong>Artillery</strong> Association<br />

offers a cash prize of $100.00 for the<br />

best Antiaircraft <strong>Artillery</strong> marching song<br />

submitted by July 1, 1943. The winning<br />

composition will be judged on both words<br />

and music. A full announcement of the detaj]s<br />

of the contest will appear jn the March-<br />

April issue of the JOURNAL.Please do not<br />

submit entries for the contest before the announcement<br />

in the next JOURNAL.<br />

New Circulation Chart<br />

The dream of every edhor-an extensjon to hjs circulation<br />

chart-has been realized at the JOURNALoffices.<br />

The circulation curve ran right out of the frame, so an<br />

extension chart was made up to hang above the old<br />

one. We offer thanks and congratulations both to our<br />

subscribers and to those tireless missjonaries who have,<br />

faithfully through the years, extolled the merits of the<br />

JOURNALto non-subscribing Coast <strong>Artillery</strong>men.<br />

Quantity subscription orders are still helping to swell<br />

our circulation figures. Lieutenant Colonel V. W.<br />

Wortman, executive of the 65th Coast <strong>Artillery</strong>, sent in<br />

twenty-three new names. Captain Roderick J. Britton,<br />

adjutant of the 469th Coast <strong>Artillery</strong> Battalion, sent in<br />

the ejght subscriptions necessary to pun hjs unit jnto<br />

the select ranks of the hundred percenters. Lieutenant<br />

Colonel Edmund H. Stillman forwarded eighteen subscriptions<br />

from a group of future officers who believe<br />

jn getting a good start-the senior class at Michigan<br />

State College. Second Lieutenant George W. Spurgeon,<br />

adjutant of the 14th Coast <strong>Artillery</strong>, sent in fifteen subscriptions;<br />

and Captajn Albert Michel, adjutant of the<br />

264th, gave us the names of eleven more new subscribers.<br />

From Ljeutenant Colonel Paul L. Reed, 1st BattaHon,<br />

502d Coast <strong>Artillery</strong>, came seven new subSCriptions.<br />

Colonel Reed is one of the JOURNAL'Smost consistent<br />

boosters, and over a perjod of years he has jntroduced<br />

the magazine to many new officers. The 20th Coast<br />

<strong>Artillery</strong>, commanded by Colonel Joe F. Simmons, sent<br />

in twenty-seven subscriptions, with the Colonel's signature<br />

on the letter. It always helps to know that unjt<br />

commanders beHeve that the JOURNALjs an important<br />

training pubHcation.<br />

The 479th Coast <strong>Artillery</strong> Battalion rang the bell<br />

with the biggest order received in quite a whHe-fortyone<br />

subscriptions for a 100% record for the 479th. An<br />

unusual order came from Colonel Louis Thompson, on<br />

forejgn service. Colonel Thompson sent in his own sub--
