<strong>Digital</strong> <strong>transformations</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong><strong>the</strong>ir</strong> <strong>design</strong><br />
<strong>–</strong> including micro-electronics, AI, data <strong>and</strong> digitalisation, <strong>and</strong> connectivity<br />
<strong>–</strong> <strong>and</strong> competencies, <strong>and</strong> “Key Enabling Methodologies” (KEMs) <strong>–</strong> including<br />
visioning, participation <strong>and</strong> empowerment, experimentation, change <strong>and</strong><br />
monitoring. We might name <strong>the</strong> last ingredient “Key Ethics” (KEs) <strong>and</strong> propose<br />
it to include <strong>the</strong> discussion <strong>and</strong> application <strong>of</strong> deontology, consequentialism,<br />
<strong>and</strong> pragmatic ethics. To render <strong>the</strong> three elements in Sinek’s “Golden Circle”<br />
(2009), <strong>the</strong> KEs would answer <strong>the</strong> “why”, <strong>the</strong> KEMs <strong>the</strong> “how”, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> KETs <strong>the</strong><br />
“what”.<br />

Fast forward to 2030, how can Rotterdam University <strong>of</strong> Applied Sciences<br />
implement <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cyber-social into its fabric? An attractive model<br />
to educate future generation students in applied universities is, as we call it,<br />
<strong>the</strong> federative model. This model builds on <strong>the</strong> existing educational disciplines<br />
<strong>and</strong> develops <strong>the</strong>m fur<strong>the</strong>r. Yet, <strong>the</strong>re are more expansive scenarios possible.<br />
For instance, <strong>the</strong> university could <strong>approach</strong> <strong>the</strong> digital transformation as a<br />
<strong>technical</strong>ly driven development, which is methodologically supported <strong>and</strong><br />
ethically aligned, or it could adopt <strong>the</strong> cyber-social as a new, integrative field<br />
<strong>of</strong> study that is interconnected with o<strong>the</strong>r domains. In <strong>the</strong> following sections we<br />
sketch <strong>the</strong>se three scenarios in more detail, without divulging <strong>and</strong> discussing<br />
<strong>the</strong> merits <strong>and</strong> limitations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se scenarios.<br />
