a food label found on
meats, cheeses, and
eggs. It is regulated by
Humane Farm Animal
Care (HFAC).

Provides safe living conditions
and meets nutritional needs of
all animals.
Farms are given yearly
check-ins to verify guidelines.
Beef cattle may be castrated
without pain relief and may
not have outdoor access.
Pigs may not have sufficient
space to turn around under
this label.
Only requires 1 to 1.5 ft 2 of
space per chicken.

This label provides comprehensive animal welfare guidelines that go slightly beyond
industry norms. However, it fails to provide adequate space or ensure outdoor access.
If your only other option at the store is a conventionally-raised product, go for a
Certified Humane labelled product. However, there are stricter labels you may want to
look out for and choose over this one.
