As we begin this new phase of Churchlife, with the prospect of a newbuilding in the centre of town andthe development of our mission onthe Townsend Estate, the Leadershipof Lansdowne has come up witha refresh of our Church Vision,strategy and method to describe themodel we are working towards.Our vision. Glorifying God,proclaiming Christ through Wordand Spirit.Nothing especially new about thatstatement!Our strategy. Making, maturing andmobilising disciples of Jesus fromour networks to the nations.Actually the third “m”, mobilising,is an addition to that classicformulation. We want everyone to beinvolved and to see that they have apart to play in the Great Commission.So if I am putting out chairs ona Sunday, technically producingmedia, responsible for the Fire Riskassessment, I am helping to mobilisethe church to deliver on its mission.All the practical, administrative andoperational functions that manypeople have in Lansdowne are just asvital to the health of the Church asany other.Of course, some of us wear more thanone hat and are making or maturingdisciples too.Our method. Equipping people,developing partnerships andplanting congregations.The first example of the latter is themission on the Townsend Estate thathas already established itself.What will this mean for us in 2021?We aim to be one congregation atLansdowne Road with a Church Planton the Townsend Estate.We will continue to use theWoodbury Avenue site as a sharedresource for both congregationsduring the week. But it will not be avenue for parallel Sunday services.It may be that the Townsend workwill ultimately require Sunday use ofWoodbury. But for now the identityand shape of their mission will havethe freedom to grow on the Estateitself.What next ?We have already begun talking tothe Staff and various Ministry GroupLeaders about these matters.Now we want to engage with as manypeople as possible to help everyoneunderstand the bigger picture andhow we can each be a part of themission of Lansdowne.So we are holding a Church Forumat 7:30pm on Tuesday February 2 ndwhere we will focus on the Churchgoing forward.This will be interactive and online ofcourse!If we are going to turn a motto into amovement for mission then we needpeople who are informed, inspiredand involved.
