Zufriedene Mienen und volle Auftragsbücher bilanziert
die IMEX in der Messe Frankfurt. Planer solidarisieren
sich mit Japan, das sich langsam erholt.
■ Aufschwung. „Man braucht nicht mehr als
Begeisterung, um das, was man interessant findet,
im Web zu dokumentieren und so eine
Empfehlung für andere auszusprechen“, erklärt
Sascha Lobo in seiner Keynote zum neuen
Social Media Day auf der IMEX 2011. „Als
Planer kommt man nicht mehr darum herum
die Realität auch digital zu inszenieren. Es
reicht nicht mehr, Leute etwas vor Ort erleben
zu lassen“, weiß der Web-Aktivist. „Twitter-
Monitoring ist bereits während des Events
wichtig. Identifizieren Sie Ihre Power-User. Sie
sind gute Multiplikatoren Ihrer Veranstaltung“,
Impressive IMEX
There were smiles all round and full order books after the recent IMEX at Messe Frankfurt.
Planners are showing solidarity towards Japan, which is slowly recovering.
Booming again. “If you want to use the Web to describe what you find
interesting and make recommendations, all you really need is enthusiasm,”
explained Sascha Lobo in his keynote speech during the new Social Media
Day at IMEX 2011. “Planners can no longer do without a Web presence for
their event. It’s no longer enough to let people experience something only at
the venue,” said Lobo, a tireless Web advocate. In his seminar on viral marketing
strategy, Felix Haas of event software company Amiando said: “It’s important
to monitor Twitter during your event. Identify your power users. They
can multiply its effect.”
The ninth IMEX from 24 to 26 May 2011 at Messe Frankfurt was buzzing
with the sense of a new beginning. Almost 9,000 industry visitors came,
including 3,800 hosted buyers, and there were 3,500 exhibitors from 150
countries, many with considerably larger stands than last time. There were
39 new exhibitors and many returnees, such as Latvia, Lithuania, the Philippines
or Hyatt Hotels. “Over 57,000 appointments and record attendance
on Association Day and at IMEX New Vision events like the Politicians’ Forum
indicate business is booming again and we can be optimistic,” said
IMEX Chairman Ray Bloom. Healthy bookings for IMEX America, which is
taking place for the first time in October 2011, confirm this. The results of
industry studies published to coincide with IMEX were also encouraging.
Mai 2011 in der Messe Frankfurt ist für knapp
9.000 Fachbesucher, davon 3.800 Hosted Buyers,
Aufbruchstimmung spürbar. 3.500 Aussteller
aus 150 Ländern präsentieren ihr Angebot
“There were 2.7 million events in 2010, 9.4 percent more than the year
before, attended by 323 million people, a new record,” said GCB Managing
Director Matthias Schultz, commenting on the fifth Germany Meetings and
Event Barometer of the GCB and EVVC. Total revenues in 2010 were 66bn
euros from 250,000 more events than in the previous year. The MICE Market
Monitor 2011 also showed revenues returning to pre-crisis levels.
Germany, ranked top in Europe and second worldwide by the ICCA in
2010, had 204 exhibitors at the largest ever GCB stand at IMEX (1,500
square metres). Feedback was uniformly positive. “It really paid off for us to
share a stand with Cologne, our metropolis partner,” declared Düsseldorf-
Congress CEO Hilmar Guckert. Matthias Rieger, the Executive Director of the
Hamburg Convention Bureau, which took 90 square metres at the GCB
stand together with 17 partners, was also satisfied. Following IMEX, ten Chinese
planners went to Hamburg for an educational site inspection tour. The
IMEX debut of wildcard winner Hochschwarzwald Tourismus GmbH was also
a success. “The Black Forest is a strong brand abroad as well as at home,”
said Ulrike Brodscholl. “We have received several international enquiries and
are considering marketing our Wellmeetings product together with the green
city of Freiburg in future.”
