Dear Reader,<br />
<strong>Birdy</strong> <strong>Boutique</strong> is a children’s clothing and accessory retail shop owned by two<br />
sisters. We design and test every product ourselves and subsequently have a<br />
dependable manufacturing and delivery method. We primarily sell to baby and<br />
toddler moms, both boys and girls, via convenient online selling platforms which<br />
reach our targeted demographic. We are opening our wholesale process to<br />
boutiques such as yours that would like to sell our products in your brick and<br />
mortars.<br />
Our catalog of uniquely designed products and printed patterns include<br />
milestone outfits, learning blankets, educational apparel and car seat ponchos,<br />
which are our main product. The car seat poncho is a hooded blanket that is<br />
primarily used in the car seat because it allows the child to be buckled under the<br />
poncho instead of over a coat. This prevents bulkiness and allows for safer,<br />
warmer travel, without dangerously interfering with the safety harness. Our<br />
poncho has many other benefits: less time to get dressed and ready to get out of<br />
the house, promotes independence as kids can put it on themselves, easier<br />
buckling in the car, a variety of uses outside of the car such as strollers, walks,<br />
hanging out at home, etc. Our brand is trademarked.<br />

BUSINESS HISTORY<br />
Joanna Jozwik Serra and Barbara Jozwik<br />
Kent immigrated to the United States from<br />
Poland as children in 1988. Watching their<br />
mother perform hard physical work to put<br />
food on the table, they learned that hard<br />
work and determination equals success.<br />
Education was of utmost importance and<br />
both sisters pursued college degrees and<br />
began conventional jobs immediately after<br />
graduation.<br />
Barbara Kent is a retired Army officer, a<br />
mom to two extremely lively children, and a<br />
wife to an active duty Army officer<br />
stationed in Germany. The family recently<br />
moved from Springfield, Virginia to<br />
Stuttgart, Germany.<br />
Barbara graduated from the United States<br />
Military Academy at West Point in 1999.<br />
She went on to honorably serve in the US<br />
Army Military Police Corps for 13 years,<br />
after which she was medically retired and<br />
disabled by the Department of Veterans<br />
Affairs. She consequently pursued work in<br />
government contracting but eventually<br />
turned to forming and developing <strong>Birdy</strong><br />
<strong>Boutique</strong> in order to work for herself.<br />
Joanna Serra is a mom of two toddlers and a<br />
wife to Dominic Serra, an entrepreneur who<br />
started and runs a proprietary network ISP.<br />
The family resides in a farming community<br />
in Michigan.<br />
Joanna graduated from Wayne State<br />
University with a Bachelor of Science in<br />
Elementary Education; she also began her<br />
Master of Art in Educational Leadership at<br />
the University of Michigan. She taught<br />
elementary aged children and during this<br />
tenure, she earned some of the highest and<br />
most distinguished awards in her field at the<br />
state level. Her initiative and determination,<br />
combined with love for her field, allowed<br />
her to be a leader in every working<br />
environment she took part in. She now runs<br />
two businesses; an ISP business with her<br />
husband and <strong>Birdy</strong> <strong>Boutique</strong> with her sister.<br />
Both sisters faced an uphill battle growing<br />
up in very underprivileged circumstances.<br />
The grit and determination that allowed<br />
them to move up and away from that<br />
environment has become an extremely<br />
useful tool in achieving many life goals.<br />
After each faced a massive life change, they<br />
both decided to work for themselves and<br />
start a business together. <strong>Birdy</strong> <strong>Boutique</strong><br />
officially came to life in February of 2014<br />
after months of brainstorming and planning;<br />
the name came from the sisters’ love for<br />
birds! The first product was created from<br />
Barbara’s passion for sewing and Joanna’s<br />
desire to keep kids safe while traveling;<br />
designing, sewing and later mass producing<br />

Amazon. The company has now expanded to<br />
sell not only car seat ponchos in a variety of<br />
designs but also tapestries and learning<br />
blankets. Many children’s clothing<br />
companies simply resell others' designs and<br />
products, but <strong>Birdy</strong> <strong>Boutique</strong> uniquely<br />
designs, prints and creates their own<br />
products from choosing patterns all the way<br />
to stitching decisions, making it a true<br />
brand.<br />
Currently, the company is run as an e-<br />
commerce business selling on multiple<br />
online platforms including its own website,<br />
etsy, eBay, Amazon and Walmart. The<br />
headquarters and warehouse are in Warren,<br />
MI, and working space is in Armada, MI, in a<br />
renovated barn museum.

CPSC/CPSIA TESTED & COMPLIANT<br />
The Consumer Product Safety Commission, CPSC, requires that all children’s<br />
products are subject to a set of federal safety rules, called children’s product<br />
safety rules. This means that all manufacturers are required by law to ensure<br />
their products go through rigorous testing that will deem their items safe to<br />
use.<br />
The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, CPSIA, allows the CPSC to<br />
be more stringent on product safety requirements. Each one of our ponchos,<br />
along with all other <strong>Birdy</strong> <strong>Boutique</strong> products, have been rigorously tested by<br />
a CPSC approved laboratory and all CPSIA standards have been met. This<br />
means that all the materials used in manufacturing our products were tested<br />
and are safe to use for you and for your child. We went through this lengthy<br />
process because safety is a priority we care about! Our ponchos are SAFE<br />
and CPSC and CPSIA compliant! The laboratory that we utilized has been<br />
government certified and operational for 10 years. Our ponchos are tested to<br />
all CPSC children’s product standards.<br />
CRASH TESTING FACILITY<br />
We researched and chose to use a government certified and government<br />
utilized crash test laboratory to test the safety of our ponchos. This was a<br />
significant financial investment to our small business so we had to choose<br />
wisely. This test facility, located in Virginia, specializes in testing many of the<br />
most popular car seat brands for the National Highway Traffic Safety<br />
Administration, the US Government’s authority on car seat safety. Results:<br />
Our crash test showed that using our poncho in a car seat allows for the seat<br />
belts to be properly tightened against the child’s body, with no unsafe slack<br />
of bulky clothing.
