Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! This year is off to a great start at the
Chamber. We have a lot of things in the making that will be
entertaining for our community. In February, we are slated to
have our annual Ragin’ Cajun Date Night, held at the Barn at
Paso Fino. We have a Comedy night scheduled for March and
our Annual Caladium Festival and Car Show is set for the
weekend of July 23 rd - 25th!
With 2020 in our rear view mirror, we are determined to make
2021 better than ever! We are looking forward to a year full of
good health, hope, prosperity, and most of all LOVE. Love for
our fellow man, for our little town, and for our Country.
So, let’s jump in to this new year with an attitude of gratitude
and a happy heart. Let’s be of service to each other when we
can, and let others know if we need help. After all, being able
to lean on each other is part of what sets living in a small
community apart. And Lake Placid, is one of the very best!
Badcock Furniture & More of Lake Placid
This month’s member spotlight is on Badcock & More of Lake Placid. Owned by Darryl
Gibbs, this store has been in it’s current location in Lake Placid for 18 years. Today, the
store is managed by fourth generation proprietor, Morgan Gibbs.
Located at 594 US 27 North in Lake Placid, this well laid out store has a beautiful
assortment of furniture with styles to suite any taste. You can also purchase a full array of
kitchen and laundry appliances and home décor.
Badcock & More of Lake Placid is locally owned and operated. While there are other
Badcock & More locations, each one is independently owned and not necessarily affiliated
with each other.
When asked how Covid-19 has affected the business, Miss Gibbs stated that receiving
inventory has been impacted and that it can be a little more difficult to get in a timely
manner. To combat this, they have been selling floor stock to customers who do not want
to wait for stock to arrive. When the pandemic first caused the closure of many area
businesses, Badcock & More remained an essential business and used that time to remodel
their store. In doing so, they helped local businesses by utilizing their services and
products.
When you need furniture, appliances, or home décor, stop in and see Morgan at Badcock &
More & Let them know that the Chamber sent you. You can utilize their no interest
financing and come away with beautiful furniture that is backed by a local company that
has been a part of Lake Placid for many years and will be for many more.
MURAL TIDBITS
Anytime the American Flag is displayed,
it’s a great thing of beauty. This month’s
mural tidbit features the mural titled God
Bless America. This gorgeous mural is
located at the corner of West Interlake
Boulevard and Tangerine Drive. The
artist was Mr. Terry Smith who completed
the mural in January of 2002.
for our fellow man, and our nation. This
mural is a reflection of that.
Hidden in this mural is the American
Flag, and 911. So be sure to look for
them when you visit the mural. ‡
This mural is 21 feet wide and 9 feet high,
and was sponsored by Dom and Janice
DiStefano.
After the horrible events of 9/11, the little
town of Lake Placid, rich in veterans of
earlier wars, joined together with the rest
of our sovereign nation to not only
mourn, but to vow to never forget. This
mural reminds us that our little town is
made up of many different people from all
parts of our great nation and beyond.
From the Mountains, to the valley’s , to
the ocean shores both east and west, we
are a diverse little community full of love
