LORD
MAYOR’S
MESSAGE
CR BOB
DWYER
New Street Names for Melrose Park
Melrose Park is undergoing a massive
transformation, with around 5,000 new homes
being built over the next 10 years. Council
recently endorsed a selection of proposed
names for five new roads and a park in this
growing precinct.
The names were chosen to honour the area’s
historic past, including: Appleroth Street, a
tribute to Adolphus Herbert Frederick Norman
Appleroth, the creator of Aeroplane Jelly which
had a factory in the area; Bundil Boulevard, in
remembrance of Sally Bundil, a local Aboriginal
woman born in the early 1800s; and Putt Putt
Park, in recognition of the much-loved mini-golf
course that was formerly located at the site
between 1969 and 2016.
By naming Melrose Park’s new roads and open
spaces after the people and businesses that
once called this place home, we are keeping the
area’s unique and fascinating history alive.
Parramatta welcomes new NSW Civil
and Administrative Tribunal
On Monday 15 February, I attended the opening
of the new state-of-the-art NSW Civil and
Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) registry and
hearing rooms in Parramatta, alongside
Attorney-General Mark Speakman and
President of the NCAT Justice Lea Armstrong.
This is a huge win for the people of Western
Sydney, providing our community with specialist
tribunal services on their doorstep to help
resolve a wide range of civil matters.
Council has long been advocating for
Parramatta’s highly-valued Justice Precinct
to be expanded and as our City continues to
grow, we look forward to more critical services
like NCAT being located in the centre of global
Sydney.
