Another Type of SARS-CoV-2
Virus Has Found in the UK
-
By Aylin D.
During vaccination studies of
COVID-19, it has been seen that
SARS-CoV-2 has mutated in Britain.
Since September, scientists in
Britain have been researching the
“new” kind of virus and nowadays,
they announced that the mutated
virus is more infectious than the
first one. Today, UK arrivals are
limited due to mutated virus and
experts work on the new variant
which is called SARS-CoV-2
VUI 202012/01 (variant under
investigation).
The variant’s effects are still
unclear, but according to the
research on the variant, it can be
said that it causes more severe
illness and spreads faster. Even
though the vaccine for coronavirus
has been found, scientists don’t
know that the manufactured
vaccine will prevent the new virus.
Nick Loman, a microbial genomics
professor at the University of
Birmingham, told The Washington
Post that the lineage came up quite
rapidly about the new virus. It is
not yet apparent that COVID-19
patients have increased faster since
September because of the variant.
The director of the Wellcome
Trust Biomedical Research
Foundation, Jeremy Farrar, stated
that the development of the virus is
“potentially serious” and the virus
must have been evolved by more
people getting infected. He added
that the virus mutation can be an
advantage or a disadvantage.
