ABATE of Florida, Inc. is incorporated under the
laws of Florida as a motorcycle rights
organization or MRO.
ABATE of Florida, Inc. currently is the only
political MRO in Florida representing the
interests of it's members and the motorcycling
public at large.
ABATE of Florida, Inc. is dedicated to securing
and protecting the rights of all motorcyclists in
the state.
The corporation has retained the services of a full time
lobbyist.
It is the duty of the lobbyist to coordinate with the
legislative trustee on matters of legislative interest and to
put forth these interests to the legislators in Tallahassse.
The lobbyist works closely with the Legislative Trustee and
the state Board of Directors to formulate favorable bills and
pursue getting the bills enacted into law.
The lobbyist is also responsible for finding a willing and
suitable sponsor in the Florida House and Senate for the
aforementioned bills.
In the area of education ABATE of Florida, Inc. has
copyrighted a Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Program.
The program is designed to be presented in schools and
other public forums to better educate students and the
general public. ABATE of Florida findings, show a greater
need for public awareness due to the increased numbers
of motorcycles on the streets and highways of Florida.
We will endeavor to enlist the cooperation and
participation of all organizations and individuals who
share a similar interest in preserving our American
tradition of freedom.
The corporation through its chapters enlists the talents of
it's members to promote a positive public image and lobby
at the local level by contacting their respective legislators.
The corporation aligns itself with other organizations and
individuals who are pursing the same rights and freedoms
as guaranteed by the Constitutions of the United States
and the State of Florida.
We will involve ourselves in fund raising to achieve our
goals.
The corporation raises money from memberships and fund
raising events at both the state and chapter level.
At the state level the main fund raising event is the
campground during Bike Week at Daytona.
The chapters hold fund raising events throughout the year
across the state and use these funds to help the state
organization pursue its goals at the local level.

Spooks ’n Scoots is fast approaching. As you all know this
is the major fundraising event for our chapter. I would like
to take this time to encourage all members to support your
chapter by attending this event. Even if you don’t wish to
volunteer any hours you can still show support by paying
the entrance fee and having a great time at the event.

The board of directors and the Spooks committee has been
working hard to get everything ready for this year’s event
and I would like to give them all a big thank you. We are
back on the normal date and hopefully the weather will be
good and we are able to get a good number of people to
attend. Due to the economy and conflicting events Spooks has suffered the last couple of
years. Attendance to this event is the key to success, so please put Oct. 7-9 on your calendar,
grab a friend or two and come out and have a good time. If every member came and brought a
friend we would have the most successful event ever. Please consider this my personal invitation
to come and enjoy one of the best biker events that has ever been held in Florida. Hope to
see you all at Spooks.

Hello to everyone:
Spooks n Scoots is next month, we have been working hard on the
preparations for quite some time now. We will be setting up the campground
on Thursday Oct, 6 and it would be nice to have some help
from our members. This event is what allows our Chapter to operate and helps provide our presence
in Tallahassee via our Lobbyist. We all have to work to preserve our freedoms to ride free.
There are many politicians that want us in helmets and even more restraining attire; we have to
keep vigilant which requires funds from events like Spooks and Scoots.
Please come to Spooks and enjoy the camaraderie of our fellows bikers, and a little volunteering
would be nice too.

Good Bye to Summer – Welcome to the Fall!
Ahhhhh, it’s that time of year again….many bikers around the Tampa Bay area and further away
places are making plans to attend their favorite Autumn event known as Spooks N Scoots…..wow,
where did this past year go ? Each and every member should be doing their best to attend and help
(work) to make this – our 31st Annual – the biggest and best event yet. Please see Becky Speer
(Products Tent), Jim Cass (Sgt. of Arms – Security), or Bob M. (Bev.Tent) to sign up to help. The key
word for our event this year is Continuity. Webster’s dictionary (on-line) gives the definition for this
word as followed: con-ti-nu-i-ty, noun 1 a: uninterrupted connection, succession, or union b:
something that has exhibits or provides continuity as: a script or a scenario in the performing arts or as transitional spoken or musical
matter especially for a radio or TV program. Synonyms include: abidance, ceaselessness, continuousness, durability, duration, endurance,
persistence and subsidence. Antonyms include: cessation, close, discontinuance, discontinuity, end, ending, expiration, finish,
stoppage, surcease and termination. Please read those Synonyms & Antonyms again. Quite simply put, this
event is all about the people and their continuity. Remove the continuity of the people managing this event and the result is stoppage,
cessation, expiration and termination. Our event’s success will be monitored and/or “graded” by how well we all manage our continuity
and by how many members will be there continuant for the same goal. Whether we are aware of it or not, our peers, the press
and out guests will be “judging” all of us on this simple principle as well. We welcome any member to help, attend or be there as part
of our chapter. But we also ask that you be very mindful on the success of our event. Just be there - help and enjoy yourself. On
another note - Have you bought your “Drawing Ticket” yet? ABATE of Florida, Inc. is sponsoring a drawing where the prize is
$10,000. No gimmicks, no brass – just plain old cold hard cash. What could be simpler? Buy a drawing ticket and you become eligible
to win (as long as you 18 and have proper ID). You don’t even have to be present to collect (at the Bike Week campground in March)
to win. So - do your part and get yours as soon as possible. Heck at $5 each – these tickets can make very nice gifts, stocking stuffers,
etc. – what a deal! This is one of our organization’s largest fund raisers and only 7500 tickets are being sold, so your odds are
good!I also want to welcome & thank John Lowe for stepping up as our Chapter’s Newsletter Editor. As you read this, please note
that this is the first edition. When you see him – thank him and let him know what you think. In closing, I want to remind everyone
that no matter how bad you think it is going for you right now, there is someone else out there who has it much worse than you do.
Be Kind – Be Gentle and put a smile on your face. Be grateful for what you do have, instead of worrying about what you don’t (it adds
up to be a lot more than you think it does). I hope I see you at Spooks N Scoots…..

Spooks-n-Scoots is almost upon us! This year will be a nice one,
because we are planning for a smaller crowd, which means we
don't have to spread ourselves too thin. We'll still need your help
though if we expect to get a break from work to enjoy ourselves,
even if just for a little bit. Please sign up for at least one shift with
Security, Products, the Beverage tent, or even the registration
building up front. We'll also need some help with hosting the bike
games Saturday afternoon. If you've never worked a shift, this will be the year to do it. We will be
hosting a smaller format, much more like the old days of Spooks 'n' Scoots, in case any of you can
remember back that far! Here's the scoop on free entry for work: you must sign up (and actually
work) (3) 6-hour shifts to have your entry fee waived--trust me, that's a lot. Most of us will just want
to pay our entry, then just volunteer a shift, or even just give someone a few hours relief, then go
back to the party. This is a great idea, and it helps everyone involved. If you're considering coming
out, make it a great camping weekend. Bring your RV, camper, tent, or whatever, and some friends
and have a great time. Spooks 'n' Scoots is an affordable way to unwind and have a great time
once a year. All we really ask is that you respect your neighbor and keep things friendly.

Well its getting that time of year again. Spooks n Scoots is Oct. 7-9 and hopefully
the weather will be a little cooler. It’s going to be great running into old
friends and meeting new ones. I would like to see most of our members
there, and new faces to volunteer. We could always use the help relieving
others for a couple of hours.
As of now we have 208 members. In May we had 3 members become life members, Rev. John Lowe Sr., Bill Nasrallah
and Steve Nasrallah. June, new life member Jo-el Dampier Jr. My next membership drive will be Sept. 10, 2011 in
Zephyrhills Music and Motorcycles from 4-9 pm. There is one more this year Nov. 12, 2011 at the same place. I

This time of year, even if you only seldom ride,
you're likely to get caught in the rain. It's usually no
big deal--you either have a rain suit with you, or you
don't--you get wet either way. A few things to consider
though: Make sure your tires still have plenty
of tread, and they have the proper air pressure.
Also, make sure your tail/brake lights are
working--it's hard for others to see when it's raining,
even in the daylight. And keep in mind that Florida
drivers can't drive in the rain (not like they can drive well when it's dry either), so not
only will they use the "I didn't see you" excuse, they'll also use the "I lost control" excuse,
or they won't turn on their lights, making it harder for you to see them, etc,
etc. Use extra caution by giving yourself more room around you, and increasing your
following distance behind others. Hopefully these common sense tips will help to
keep you "shiny-side up".

MEETING MINUTES - DATE: 8/07/2011
This meeting was called to order at 1:11pm. Board Members present were: Richard
Nasrallah, James Sewell, Bill Nasrallah, Jim Cass, Steve Nasrallah, Judy Verano and
Patti Nasrallah.
1. INTRODUCTIONS & PRESIDENTS REPORT: Richard welcomed all guests and
visitors. Richard led pledge of allegiance and a moment of silence.
2. VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT: James Sewell – Nothing to Report.
3. SECRETARY’S REPORT: Beamer was absent – Patti Nasrallah filled in to record
the minutes. She reported that there were no changes submitted for the chapter
meeting minutes. Motion made by James Sewell that last month’s minutes will be
printed in the newsletter and therefore do not need to be read to the chapter at this
time – motion seconded by Ted Hillstad - Chapter voted & this motion carried.
4. TREASURER: Bill Nasrallah reported and announced that chapter expense and
balance report is available for any member to review after the meeting. Motion made
by Patti Nasrallah to accept the treasurer’s report – Bob M. seconded the motion –
Chapter voted & this motion carried.
5. MEMBERSHIP TRUSTEE: Steve Nasrallah reported that everyone needs to help
with membership as our numbers are going down. He also reminded everyone that
there are 50/50 and drawing prize tickets available today – please buy some – support
your chapter. He also mentioned that he also has the State cash drawing tickets and
if any members have any sold ones to please turn those in w/ the monies.
6. PRODUCTS TRUSTEE: Becky Speer absent – Judy Verano was present and
took care of products sales.
7. SERGEANT AT ARMS: Jim Cass reported that after the meeting our “work day”
for Spooks N Scoots would be taking place (inventory on the bins in the trailer) after
the September chapter meeting. He also asked for volunteers for Security for Spooks.
8. LEGISLATIVE TRUSTEE: Richard announced that Milton Gonzalez was absent
due to an injury from work and that he sends his best wishes for a speedy recovery.

10. STATE BUSINESS: Delegates for the August State Meeting next weekend in
Middleburg will be Steve Nasrallah and Milton Gonzalez. Steve N. announced that
the Tallahassee Freedom Rights Rally will be in February instead of April. Also the
next National Ride to Work Day will be on June 20 th , 2012.
11. SAFETY TRUSTEE: Jim Cass discussed precautions needed when riding in this
summer heat - staying hydrated is number one. He also discussed how excessive
heat can cause tire leaks and/or changes in your bike’s tires. Check your tire pressure
before you ride.
12. NEWSLETTER EDITOR: Position Vacant.
13. WEB MASTER: Patti Nasrallah reported that she will be replacing the Spooks
Flyer on the chapter website w/ the current 2 sided version.
14. OLD BUSINESS: Richard and James reported on progress for our upcoming
Spooks N Scoots event.
15: NEW BUSINESS: James reported on work needed to get the Hearse ready for
Spooks N Scoots.
16. GOOD OF THE ORDER: Patti will send Milton a get well card. James mentioned
that we have been invited to have one of Chapter Meetings at the Webster Flea
Market. He made a motion that we have the November chapter meeting there, Steve
N. seconded the motion. Chapter voted and this motion carried.
Bob M. won the 50/50 Drawing – he donated his winnings to the hearse fund.
James Sewell made a motion that we close the Meeting – motion was seconded by
Bob M. Chapter voted and this motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 1:48pm.

the treasurer’s report – Mike Speer seconded the motion – Chapter voted & this motion carried.
5. MEMBERSHIP TRUSTEE: Steve Nasrallah reported that the chapter has 209 members as of today.
He gave out packets for our chapter’s 4 new Life members 1) Jo-el Dampier Jr. 2) Bill Nasrallah 3
John Lowe and 4) himself. He also welcomed new member Rosa Laudermilt. He also reminded everyone
that there are 50/50 and drawing prize tickets available today – please buy some – support your
chapter. He also mentioned that he also has the State tickets for the cash drawing and if any members
have any sold ones to please turn those in w/ the monies. Beamer made a motion to accept the Membership
Report - motion seconded by Mike Speer - Chapter voted & this motion carried.
6. PRODUCTS TRUSTEE: Becky Speer reported that the Chapter shirt order is in, but new prices
needed to be determined (raw shirt prices have gone up and affected the cost the chapter has to pay for
them). She has a sign-up sheet for volunteers for Spooks N Scoots for the Products Tent and urged
people to help. She also let everyone know that if they needed anything to please let her know.
7.SERGEANT AT ARMS: Jim Cass reported that after the meeting our “work day” for Spooks N Scoots
would be taking place (inventory on the bins in the trailer). He also asked for volunteers for Security for
Spooks.
8. LEGISLATIVE TRUSTEE: Milton Gonzalez reported that session will begin soon and gave a report
on several non-motorcycle related bills. Information for these bills is available via the State website on
the Legislative page. Milton also discussed that the Tallahassee Freedom Rights Rally will be in February
in 2012 (due to changes with sessions) – he asked if you have any ideas on Bills you would like to
see ABATE of Florida, Inc. support, research, review, etc. to please let him know asap. Motion made by
Beamer to accept the Legislative Report - motion seconded by James Sewell - Chapter voted & this motion
carried.

MEETING MINUTES - DATE: 9/04/2011
9. PR/COMMUNICATIONS TRUSTEE: “Beamer” reported on some changes with the hearse event we
usually do with the Zephyrhills Main St. & Music rallies. They can no longer do an exchange for the
booth site (ad in our newsletter for the booth site) and will be charging $100 for each of the 3 events they
hold each year. They do offer a 3 event “deal” where vendors can purchase all 3 dates for $100 in advance.
During the Board Meeting earlier today, the board voted to do this purchase. This Saturday,
9/10/11, we will be doing a hearse event at Main St. Music & Motorcycles -- asked for volunteers for setup

10. STATE BUSINESS: Steve spoke on highlights from the August State Meeting.
11. SAFETY TRUSTEE: Jim Cass reported that he is working on getting some of the new safety supplies
for our chapter. He also discussed how to become certified as an Instructor for the MSAP. Discussion
followed on the “roadblocks” for us to be able to do the MSAP in Hillsborough Co. schools. Jim is
looking for other types of venues.
12. NEWSLETTER EDITOR: John Lowe reported that he needs articles from the chapter officers & trustees.
He announced that the deadline for the next newsletter is this Wednesday, 9/7/11.
13. WEB MASTER: Patti Nasrallah reported that the current Spooks Flyer is on our chapter website.
14. OLD BUSINESS: Richard and James reported on progress for our upcoming Spooks N Scoots
event. Richard and James will lead a ride up to Sertoma after the October chapter meeting to mark rope
off vendor and official areas for Spooks N Scoots, any member is welcome to attend and help. Richard
also let everyone know that Thursday, 10/6/11 is a work day for Spooks and we need as many members
as possible there for help unloading the trailer and setting up the work areas in the tents, stage prep, etc.
Richard reminded members that a motion was passed at the August Meeting to have our November
chapter meeting at the Webster Flea Market. He asked for a show of hands from the members present
on how many members would be interested in doing this. Response was favorable; details will follow at
October chapter meeting.

PA for Motorcycle Safety. She also spoke about the 9/11 Poker Run sponsored by Harley dealerships in

harassment of patient regarding firearm ownership during an examination by licensed health care
provider or health care facility.

Florida's Voting Laws
If you are a resident of Florida and feel strongly about many of the political issues that
face you, your family, Florida and the entire nation right now it is critical that you register
to vote and make sure that your voice is heard.
The Registration Process
In Florida, you can register to vote at any time. But keep in mind that Florida maintains a closing date for
registration to vote in a particular election. This is important for voters to realize because if you miss the
closing date you can’t vote in the election. This is why it’s critical to register to vote as soon as possible.
Closing dates in Florida are 29 days prior to the elections or, July 26, 2010 for the primary election of August
24, 2010, and October 4, 2010 for the general election of November 2, 2010. In other words, register to
vote today! If you wish to vote in a primary, Florida is a “closed primary state”, you must be a registered
member of one of the political parties for which you intend to vote. For example, voters registered as independent,
or a member of the “Green Party”, can’t vote in the Republican or Democratic primaries. The only
exception to this rule is a 1998 Florida constitutional amendment that states that if all candidates share the
same party affiliation, all registered voters regardless of party can vote in the primary election.
The General Election Process
The General Election is always held in November of even-numbered years with the Primary Election taking
place 10 weeks before the General Election. During presidential election years, every four years, the presidential
primary in Florida is held in January. Keep in mind that the presidential primary and the Primary
Election are two different voting events. So if you would like to vote in the presidential primary, you need to
make sure you are registered in time. In other words, register to vote today!
The Absentee Ballot Process
If you are a resident of Florida but will not be in Florida during the election, you have the right to request an
absentee ballot. To obtain an absentee ballot simply contact your local office of Supervisor of Elections either
in person, in writing, or over the phone and request a ballot. It’s very important to include all of the required
information or your request can be denied. After you send in your request, make sure to call the office
to follow up with the process. Don’t assume that you will receive your ballot until you’ve received confirmation
back in writing.
Change of Address Process
If you moved and have a change of address to another county, you need to fill out a Florida Voter Registration
Application again to provide notice of your new address. This application can be obtained from your
local office of Supervisor of Elections. It’s important to have your correct address on file because Florida law
requires you to vote in the precinct where you live. If you go to the wrong precinct, you won’t be allowed to
vote. Make sure you are aware of your correct voting precinct before Election Day so that you don’t run into
any problems.
Voting is a Right
Remember, voting is a right and not a privilege; no one can stop you from voting. However, you still need to
follow and obey Florida’s voting laws in order to enjoy that right. The laws are in place in order to keep elections
fair for all candidates. Make sure you understand the rules, register early, and on election night, make
your voice heard!

A Few Words About Our Newsletter Editor
For those of you who don’t know me, My name is John Lowe AKA “Rambo”. I am not new to
ABATE nor Motorcycling. My interest in motorcycles, particularly Harley Davidsons goes
back to when I was 16 years old. I bought my first motorcycle in 1983 when I was 20 years
old. It was a 1979 Suzuki GT-380 Triple. I stopped riding about 2 years later when one of my
friends was killed on his bike. I started riding again in 1991, after getting my head screwed
on straight and have pretty much stayed with it as long as I could keep a scooter up and
running. I was nicknamed Rambo in 1991, I was working construction and found BDUs or
fatigues made great work clothes and didn’t show the dirt too badly. Plus I had the attitude
to go with the moniker. I started riding with CMA in 1993 my membership number is 40,283
and was very involved with that group for several
years. In 1993 I tried talking the Covenant
riders into visiting Spooks ‘n Scoots and 3 of us
rode out. Myself Michelle Life (now Taylor) and
Al Perry and spent the day there, I was riding
one of my favorite old bikes, a 1972 Honda 754
on a Savoir frame with a 45 degree rake. Eventually
the Chapter warmed up to ABATE and found
several of our members now working members
of ABATE. In 1995 I was Blessed with a 1984
1200 Goldwing Aspencade, that I toured the
Southeastern United States on. I have toured a
total of 11 states on a motorcycle, 8 of them solo
and 3 with a passenger. In 1995 I also became President of the Covenant Riders . I spent
only one year at this post and I will tell you why. Being the President is more responsibility
than you can imagine. It is a lot of work and a lot of time helping members deal with problems.
I had more literal headaches in that one year than all the other years of my life. So be
kind to our President Richard. He does more than you know. I was also privileged to be the
first CMAer to bring the Word at Spooks ’n Scoots. That was one of the roughest weekends I
remember up there. So the following year we started riding up to Sertoma and praying over
the camp grounds a week before the event. What a difference that made. I think that was
the same year that CMA began providing activities for the children. They have become a
great asset to ABATE and make up a large part of our membership. In 1996 one of our
members Jerry “Papa Smurph” McDaniel was critically injured in a motorcycle accident that
eventually took his life 18 months later. I was one of his Paul Bearers and rode with ABATE
in the Funeral procession from St. Pete to Tampa. Shortly after that I joined ABATE and
served as Chaplain for several years. In 2000 I got rid of my Goldwing and Bought a 1994
Harley Davidson FLHTCU Ultra Classic Electraglide. I held 2 other jobs with HCC, I was Sgt
at Arms for a short time and also products. After dealing with some personal problems, I left
HCC and dropped out of membership for about 5 years. I had been an inactive member for a
year or 2 and decided at the first of this year to return. I was in between bikes at the time and
presently I have 2 bikes. A 2001 Suzuki Savage and a 1996 Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster.
In June I signed up as a Life Member.
