ASSEMBLIES TERM 3
Parents and friends of Tintern
students (grandparents,
aunts, uncles and special friends)
are more than welcome to
attend our main Assembly each
week. Please see the schedule
opposite for the term.
COLEBROOK WING
EXCITEMENT!
There will be an exciting opportunity
for students and parents to have a
quick tour through the Colebrook Wing
Years 3 to 6 classroom refurbishment
to check on the progress of this
project. The extensive refurbishment
is well on track to be completed by the
end of this term, ready for our girls to
commence Term 4 in their new space.
The project has been planned and
managed by the Schools Business
Manager and our dedicated
maintenance team have done all the
hard work. It is still a work in progress
and we ask that you keep this in mind
as you tour the area. However, the
extensive outdoor landscaping to give
our girls a dedicated space of their
own with numerous outdoor seating
options will be clearly evident. The
inside area has been opened up to
provide a large open space similar to
that that has been loved and enjoyed
by our girls and staff in the Hamilton
building.

KILOMETRE CLUB
Meet Mrs Agius and Mrs Yardley at the pavilion at the times below.
• Don’t forget to wear your runners and bring a water bottle.
• We will do some warm up stretches and then jog around
the oval 2–3 times.
• Certificates will be awarded when you reach 25km.

Windows into the classroom bring
the outside in and there is a fantastic
sense of openness and natural light in
the common area. An art wet area and
kitchen facility finish off the
open space.
A new formal entry on the West wing
has been created to mirror that of the
ELC. Furniture will be delivered and
installed towards the end of this term
to complete the project. All classroom
furniture is being updated.
START OF TOUR: Please gather outside the current Year 6 classrooms (top of
stairs near the library entrance) to enter the building site.
TOUR GUIDES: The Business Manager, Mr Damien Horman, and the
Property Manager, Mr Graham Lea, will be onsite to
answer any questions and conduct tours through
the space along with our dedicated Junior School staff.

SCIENCE WEEK 21–24 AUGUST 2012
The theme for National Science Week this year
was Energy Evolution. As students consider how
the use of non-renewable fossil fuels affects our
environment, they are encouraged to consider
more environmentally friendly sources of energy.
Due to inclement weather, the annual Science
Week Tintern Junior School Paper Plane Flyoff
relied heavily on skill and luck rather than
favourable wind conditions. There was a large
variety of plane designs and launching techniques.
Students are congratulated for their most
enthusiastic and supportive manner in rather
cramped conditions. Kite flying during the week
took advantage of the almost Spring breezes. Girls
who have never flown a kite experienced the thrill
of the wind pulling their kite high into the air.
Special thanks go to Mr Peter Mack, a Year 3
father, who gave us a demonstration of
his amazing hand-made remote-control
plane flying skills. The comments of the
girls as they watched Pete’s planes circle
high above the oval and surrounding
school buildings reflected their
fascination and wonder.
