Ski Resort on Sunday, <strong>March</strong> 28.<br />

Resort season on, Selkirk College<br />
students in the Ski Resort<br />
Management & Operations<br />
(SROAM) Program are inviting<br />
fresh air lovers to take one<br />
last shot at amazing.<br />
The Nelson-based SROAM<br />
Program is in its 40th year<br />
of providing the education<br />
and training for bright ski<br />
industry futures. As part<br />
of semester-end assignments,<br />
first-year students are<br />
once again organizing the<br />
SROAMazing Race that takes<br />
place on Sunday, <strong>March</strong> 28. A<br />
full day of activities includes<br />
a scavenger hunt, costume<br />
contest, skin-to-win race and<br />
video contest. With a deep list<br />
of local sponsors, the day also<br />
carries promise of plenty of<br />
terrific prizes.<br />
This year’s SROAMazing<br />
Race is adding environmental<br />
awareness to the day’s activities<br />
with focus on POW (Protect<br />
Our Winters) Canada,<br />
a national organization with<br />
a mission to turn passionate<br />
outdoor people in effective<br />
climate advocates. All money<br />
raised will go towards POW’s<br />
efforts towards sustainability<br />
of the outdoor industry.<br />
“Without snow, we obviously<br />
wouldn’t be able to<br />
continue participating in<br />
these beloved sports, so it’s<br />
important to do our job<br />
as a collective to create a<br />
change,” says Jones.<br />
The activities run between<br />
10 am and 3 pm. The skinto-win<br />
race will take place<br />
on Sluice Box, where students<br />
encourage people to<br />
bring their skins and get<br />
their game face on. The<br />
annual scavenger hunt will<br />
be set up for teams of two<br />
all over the mountain and<br />
participants can arrive anytime<br />
to take part in the hunt.<br />
The video contest is looking<br />
to hear from people in two<br />
minutes or less about what<br />
they are doing in your daily<br />
lives to help protect our winters.<br />
Don’t forget your costumes,<br />
there are some sweet<br />
prizes for the best dressed.<br />
“The day will feature all<br />
of the activities and with<br />
the help of some wonderful<br />
sponsors, the SROAM<br />
team will be giving out some<br />
spectacular prizes too,”<br />
says Jones. “Last year,<br />
COVID-19 unfortunately put<br />
a halt on the 2020 class’s race,<br />
so we are feeling very eager<br />
to get things rolling again.<br />
Alongside the province’s regulations,<br />
the class has ensured<br />
that all COVID protocols are<br />
up to standard and that participants<br />
can be confident in<br />
their health and safety<br />
during the day.”<br />
