MAINTAIN THY MENTAL
CENTER OF GRAVITY
By Irene Chimombo
Life can sometimes throw us
off the edge and we can get
stuck in a sea of obstacles,
with no foolproof recipes or
ready made answers on how
to navigate these trials and
tribulations. Oftentimes we
know that no one has the
exact answers, and most
times it could be that those
answers are locked up inside
us but we have no clue on
how to access them.
In these times it can be
difficult to keep going
because life feels like a
maze, we keep going in
the same circles with no
sense of direction and no
apparent destination. Most
people get stuck in this maze.
Uncertainties creep in, mixed
feelings emerge and in no
time they begin to control us
when we don’t identify them.
While we are given a lot
of choices on how to deal
with our struggles,life can
be confusing as to where
to begin for us to find that
centeredness to even start
from. The good news is that
we all have an operating
system inside of us, and
depending on how aware we
are, determines how we treat
it, as we all have free will to
make choices on how we can
do things differently.
Growing up, we were all
made aware of our bodies.
We have words to describe
our outer appearances,
and there are so many tools
available to change, reshape
and rejuvenate our bodies
when we feel unsatisfied.
Whilst we are always taking
care of our bodies, I would
like us to go inside the body
where everything exists. This
place is known by different
names. The Spirit. The Higher
self. The Soul.
For whatever name we
choose, one common thing
sremains: this place is our
Home. This is the sacred
place we continue to exist.
Our eternal dwelling place
to which we always come
back to even when our
physical bodies wander. The
big question is: How are we
existing in our Homes?
This is the journey.
How we make sense of and
how we exist in this world
depends on the awareness
we have of what is important
to us. I have learnt that ready
made answers won’t always
be true for everyone so I will
just reference to questions
that can serve us as a
starting point and hopefully
guide us in embracing this
journey.
What does it mean for us to
exist in our bodies?
How best do we take
care of our internal
Homes?
How do we
maintain it in
order for
it
to
MENTAL HEALTH
stay healthy and clean, inside
and out?
What role has the external
events played in moulding us?
How do our internal Homes
impact those around us and
the environment?
How do we maintain our
mental center of gravity?
How do we reign in our
kingdom?
Life is an equation we
constantly try to solve and if
the multiple choices we are
presented with don’t work,
there are many options out
to help us achieve our goals.
Questions have a way of
challenging us. They prompt
us to listen to our hearts and
they show us the routes to
follow in our different maps
to our realities. The place
we should start from, on this
journey, is embracing the fact
that the way we exist inwards
manifests outwards to our
bodies.
Reign
consciously
in thy
Kingdoms.

1. What’s your real name?
Madalitso kantema
2. How did you come up with
the name Charisma?
I had many talents back
then. I used to dance, play
football and doing music.
Everyone liked my charisma
so I decided to name myself
Charisma.
3. How has your upbringing
influenced your music?
My friend inspired me to start
doing music but it wasn’t my
thing. He forced me to write
a verse when I was in high
school. Since then, i always
put effort in the work and my
friend is proud of the man
I have become, plus I love
doing music now.
4. How do you see Malawi
in the African music scene?
Malawi is way too far
comparing to other countries
because we don’t have the
equipment they use but we
trying our best and one day
we going to be out there.
5. Craziest thing you ever
done?
Craziest thing, lol the picture I
took in toilet.
6.Any embarrassing moment?
No embarrassing moment
7. Favorite performance?
Eli Njuchi’s Album launch and
UMP awards 2016
8. What was the feeling
like to have 3 nominations in
one award?
How I felt? Well I was so
happy because last year I
really worked and I deserved
it
9. What’s your best
achievement in music?
The award meant a lot to me
and it’s not something you
can just get, you really have
to work so hard to get, so I
feel it’s an achievement to
me.
And been getting deals with
companies coz right now I’m
working with Gotv on some
campaign
10. Being awarded best
hip hop live in last year’s
awards, how much effort did
u put in for that recognition?
Best hip hop live, I had too
many shows. To be honest, I’m
the best hip hop performer
Malawi has ever produced,
I make the crowd go crazy
and I always give the fun they
want
11. We see u follow
fashion too, how does that
contribute to your music?
Fashion contributes a lot

to dress up and look good at
all times.
12. What would you do
with your last MK50, 000 in
your pocket?
50k well, I would buy masks
for my fans.

too expensive.
ENTERTAINMENT
14. What is the biggest
change in your life as far as
music is concerned?
It made me to limit myself
from the ghetto, because I
was gonna end up like those
kids drinking and smoking
every day, “anthu osowa
zochita”. So when I got
famous, I had to change my
lifestyle and look at me now, I
have really changed because
of music.
15. Take us through the
making of Kubanda?
Kubanda wasn’t a song that
was gonna come out. I was
just playing in the studio and
I had to send it to one of
my friends and it was just a
VN. My friend sent it to some
groups then boom everyone
was asking for it. I decided
to finish it and release it out
there, and kubanda took
number on made on Monday
for 2 months or something.
16. When do we expect an
album or EP?
Working on something and
might drop it in April
17. What does Charisma
like to eat at home?
Charisma likes chiwaya

POETRY
LITERATURE
ON NATURE’S OPEN BOOK
Atupele Sanderson
THEMESSIAH
Zozo Nadimba Chandilanga
There is a book written,
Never to be forgotten.
Its pages are deep green,
This is the depth of love eternal.
The streams bring the rhythm of life;
The air with no sign of strife.
The pictures quite vivid,
Reflecting the glory of the creator.
In this book I see a ray of hope,
That will move my faith from its stop.
The theme is salvation;
It’s all written in nature’s open book.
They waited for the first rains, invain,
Limbs spread, hercrotch pulsing,
Acraving for ascent of wet dust ,
Undeserving, like the first coming,
Someone to blame,
The first one to come,
Wasn’t the lilt of my tongue,
Like a King nailed on the wood,
It stuck uselessly in the air of my
gums,
‘ You paid the debts of your father ’ ,
she spat on the ground,
My umbilical chain flaccid between
her legs,
Like their first time, his first time to
cum,
My voice was the son, the crucifix,
A messiah for their sins.

MALETA TALKS 13 YEARS OF MODELING
It is overwhelming to hear a
male fashion model excelling
as modeling is much viewed
to be involved with girls.
Born Naphy Maleta aged 28,
a Malawian fashion model
based in Pretoria, South
Africa, share his 13 years of
experience in modeling.
Inspired by Donnell Blaylock
Jnr, Maleta ventured into the
fashion modeling industry
back in 2008 when he was in
high school.
Maleta, who left for South
Africa in 2016, claims that
Malawi doesn’t offer good
opportunities to male models
as compared to other
countries.
“South Africa has more
opportunities than Malawi for
male models. I also wanted to
learn more about modeling
over here,” he says.
The model has managed to
take part in the distinguished
gentleman fashion show,
Mzuzu fashion week and
Fashion Malawi Edition Fame.
Just like any other field, the
model says he has gained a
lot of experience through his
13-years of modeling.
“I’ve gained new knowledge.
Being a model exposes one
to different life skills, such as
posture, poise, confidence
and good communication
skills. You can apply these
skills to other careers. Models
acquire good communication
skills after interacting with
different personalities in the
industry.”
Despite having memorable
experiences, the model
laments that issues of
payments remain a challenge
in the industry.
“Sometimes you can go to
work and never get paid
the amount of money you
agreed on, regardless of the
kind of model you are and
the region,” He laments.
Even though he encounters
these problems, Maleta
encourages those who
desire to be in the fashion
modeling industry to follow
their dreams whenever they
can.
He further explained that
there are no academic
qualifications for one to join
modeling.
“No formal educational
credential is required to
become a model. Specific
requirements depend on
the client, with different
jobs requiring physical
characteristics. However,
models must be within
certain ranges of height,
weight and clothing size.”
Apart from being a fashion
model, Maleta is also a
business man. He sees himself
as an expert in the modeling
industry where others will seek
help, ideas and strategies.

SPIRITUAL
IN THE
WORD
With Nathan
Gwedeza
NO OTHER NAME
There are so
many names
of some very
notable people
who had so
much influence
in the world.
These are great men who
accomplished great things.
Others were political leaders,
others military leaders such
as Alexander the Great, and
many others were religious
leaders who commanded a
great following. They were
great in their time but now
that they are gone, their
names mean nothing apart
from just reading them in the
books of history.
There is only one name
however, which stands out
among them all. This is a
name of one man who is the
central figure of the human
race. He never wrote a book
nor commanded an army
or occupied an office. He
did none of the things that
usually accompany greatness
but His life was matchless.
The Bible in the book of Acts
4:12 is talking about His name
and it says, “nor is there
salvation in any other, for
there is no other name under
Reflo Magazine 3rd Edition 2021
heaven given among men
by which we must be saved.”
The name is clearly revealed
in the first few verses and that
name is Jesus. He came in
the world on one mission and
that’s to save mankind.
He came to be a sacrifice
for men’s sins. He came as
a redeemer and a Saviour
for mankind. The Bible says
“without the shedding of
blood there is no remission of
sins.” (Hebrews 9:22) For men
to receive the forgiveness of
their sins, blood had to be
shed and Jesus came just for
that.
“But He was wounded for
our transgressions, He was
bruised for our iniquities; The
chastisement for our peace
was upon Him...” (Isaiah 53:5).
Jesus shed his blood for us.
He was bruised, wounded
and died in our place. After
he was killed, the Bible tells
us that on the third day
He conquered death and
rose from the dead. He won
victory over the devil.
After his resurrection, he
received exaltation. The Bible
says “Therefore God also
has highly exalted Him and
9
given Him the name which
is above every name, that
at the name of Jesus every
knee should bow, of things
in heaven, and of things on
earth, and of those under
the earth” (Philippians 2:9-10).
Jesus received a name that is
above every other name you
know.
His name is above all the
armies that ever matched, all
the giants that ever lived, all
the warriors that ever fought,
all the navies that ever sailed,
all the parliaments that ever
sat and all the kings that ever
reigned.
It is through the exaltation
He received that we come to
understand what the Bible is
saying that “there is no other
name given to us that we can
be saved with.” It is only the
name of Jesus that can save
us.
Right now at this very
moment you can call on the
name of Jesus, a name which
is above every other name
and receive salvation. “For
whoever calls on the name
of the Lord shall be saved.”
(Romans 10:13). Call on His
name today. Peace to you!

Queen
Sheba to drop an album in April
By Andrew Ndhlovu
United Kingdom based artist, Queen Sheba, whose
real name is Rachel Khan Muyepa, is set to
release her first album titled ‘Magobo’ in
April this year.
Sheba told Reflo Magazine that her
music is important, as it attracts people’s
attention hence it is necessary for her to
release music with meaningful messages
that can bring change to the world.
She said that, ’Magobo’ is a song whose
message is about a hard working person
who wants to achieve something in life.
The idea came up because she is one
such person who has come a long
way to reach where she is.
“In this song, I’m explaining how
I work hard and I believe that
nothing comes easy, therefore I
encourage people to work hard to
achieve their dreams,” Sheba said.
She further explained that the
album has songs like Zikomo Mai
Wanga which is a dedication to all mothers
in the world, who have done a lot of things
just to make sure that their children make it
in life.
“The song Zikomo Mai Wanga is just
complimenting my message in the titled
track ‘Magobo’ but in this one I am
appreciating all mothers out there for the
effort of taking good care of us to reach
where we are,” she laughs.
She added that fans should expect good
music from her, as she is working with
Wikise, Rash Ley, Beanca, Rita and Phyzix in
her new album.
Sheba urged every artist who has made a
name in the music industry to help those
who are trying to make it there.
“I want to ask those at higher levels to at
least help us the up and coming artists, as
we are working hard to establish ourselves
in the industry.”
“It is not easy out there for someone like
me or anyone else who is new to organise
a show without any old guys in the industry,”
Queen Sheba said.

Breakthrough
suffocation‘
As it has been in the past
governments, all hopes turn
to the President Dr. Lazarus
Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance
administration, to see whether
the national youth policy will
square the needs of young
talented Malawians in the
country.
TALE OF MALAWIAN
ARTISTS
Malawi’s national youth policy
expired in 2018, and Honorable
Ulemu Msungama is the
Minister of Youth and Sports,
and is responsible for making
sure the country has an up to
date youth policy framework.
A review process for the policy
was initiated in October,
2020, and so far a couple of
consultative meetings have
been undertaken on the same.
One such person enduring in
an environment where young
people are struggling to make
ends meet is a Lilongwe based
22-year-old boy, Blessings
Chiumia, popularly known as
Tingo-B The Pencil Guy.
He is a passionate portrait
drawer trying to break into the
scene, but lack of resources is
delaying his progress.
“I struggle with materials, like
the only materials I easily find
are rubbers and pencils. But
there is a unique kit which I
cannot get it here in Malawi,
to have them you need to
order from abroad; United
Kingdom, United States of
America or China, which costs
a lot of money. Right now, I am
trying to keep some money so
that I can buy high standard
materials one day,” the young
man lamented.
Apart from drawing, Tingo
also does music, and he is
also pursuing a Journalism
19
and Mass Communication
programme at Pentecostal
Life University.
At the moment, he has
however stopped singing and
going to school, so that he
concentrates on drawing and
to fetch for his school fees, and
lift the burden off his mother,
who also has the responsibility
to pay for his younger sister’s
fees.
“I have currently stopped music
and school to concentrate
on drawing. About school, I
will maybe resume next year
because I feel like school
and art doesn’t work at the
same time, to be honest. So
I gave myself time to see
Reflo Magazine 3rd Edition 2021
how far I can go
with the drawing.
But I believe that
I can go far with
drawing.”
“So if I can go far
maybe in a year
I can manage to
pay for my school
fees. If I get more
money, I will invest
in music as well.
So I don’t want to
put more pressure
on my mom that
is why I resorted
to drawing,”
explained The
Pencil Guy.
To produce nice
portraits, one
needs a lot of
materials, including;
good quality pencils, deep
brushes, sketchbooks and a
variety of erasers, which is an
expensive collection, and not
readily available in Malawi.
President Chakwera’s
administration promise of 1
million jobs in his tenure heavily
relies on young entrepreneurs
like him to invest and employ
other young people in the
process, and that is what
continues to be preached
by the leaders in the
administration, including arts
line Ministry under Msungama.
Msungama launched an
initiative of One Million Jobs
through Arts, Culture and
Digital Innovations on 4th
December, 2020, at a Black
and Gold Gala at Comesa
Hall in Blantyre, an event which
saw top artists; Patience
Namadingo, Lucious Banda,
and one of South Africa’s best,
DJ Tira, present as support
Reflo Magazine 3rd Edition 2021
staff.
“Now that the One Million
Jobs through Arts, Culture
and Digital Innovations
Initiative has been launched. I
just want to wish Entertainers
Promotions and their partners
good luck. As a Ministry, our
role is to develop policies and
facilitate some activities,”
reads the Minister’s official
Facebook page post.
According to ‘Saatchi Art’
website, in South Africa,
a simple portrait drawing
amounts to $200, which is
about MK160, 000, when
converted to Malawi Kwacha,
whilst Tingo gets a maximum
of MK15, 000 for a complicated
drawing.
When asked about how the
portrait market is in Malawi,
he indicated that he faces
challenges because the art is
not valued like other countries.

“Marketing in Malawi
has been so though. I
try everyday to share
my drawings to market
myself, but it is a little bit
hard since people are
yet to recognise that
drawing can also be one
of the sources of income.”
“So, I feel like to promote
my talent, firstly I need
support [on social
media]. My fellow artists
outside the country,
get much support from
their country. You go to
Zambia, we see people
getting thousands of
likes on their social
media pages. We need
to support each other in
Malawi,” he pointed out.
He idolises a South African
drawer; Young Creator, and
believes one day he will be
more talented than him if he
can manage to get hold of
the right materials and work
even harder.
Since he started serious
drawing, Tingo has drawn
about 50 portraits, and one

For progress sake, there is a
need for serious support when
it comes to arts in Malawi. The
struggle is real, since support
is very off-putting, and
because of its bleak nature, it
is hard to step forward, unless
if you follow suit to Steve
Southerland’s saying: “don’t
wait for your ship to come.
Swim out to it.”
LIFESTYLE
started modeling in 2017 and it was a great
year for me because I learned alot of things
about modeling and the person who taught me
modeling said that i must have confidence and
believe in myself as it’s not easy to walk infront of
people
My advice is as simple as believing in yourself,
if you want to be a model jus do it, confidence
comes second.

Time for everything. Time to be
born and time to die, time to
love and time to hurt, that's the
story of one of prolific striker,
Ganizani AKA M’bobo Njoka
Malunga.
Malawi in recent times, has produced great
footballers and Ganizani happen to be one
of them.
The former flames international player, was
born on 21st august, 1978 and was raised in
the commercial city of Malawi, Blantyre.
“I started my Football career in 1992 at
Ronolain Blantyre (BCA),before joining
Admarc youth (tigers).
"Then i was promoted to the senior team
in 1996 with late Felix Nyirongo, played with
tigers for only one season. The following
season I went to join Silver Strikes in
Lilongwe".
His dream was totally to play for big bullets,
(Nyasa big bullets now).
"I left sliver strikes and opt of going back to
Blantyre with the influence of Peter Mponda
and Mac Donald Yobe. I joined Big Bullets in
2001.
I remember my first game was in Mzuzu
against Moyale barracks and scored a goal
with assistance from late Bauleni," Mbobo
said.”
He added that, 2003/2004 was the best
season ever in his football career.
"I scored 28 goals, which I believe that up to
now nobody has done it in our Super League.
It is the time when our President, then Dr
Bakili Muluzi, took over the ownership of
Bullets," Malunga recalls.
Mbobo says he travelled to England where
he met with David Beckman and Sir Alex
Ferguson for their pre-training in preparation
for the CAF champions match with Orlando
Pirates which ended in favour of bullets.
Seventeenteen years down the line, no one
has reached his goal scoring mark making
him the all time Super League top goal scorer.
