Ramadan Lecture organised
by University of Lagos Muslim
Alumni (UMA) on Sunday.
The annual event will also
touch on a number of issues
slowing the nation’s bid to be
at par with other developed
countries.

THE Muslim community
of Lagos State has unveiled
plans to set up a post
graduate scholarship scheme
to Muslim students in higher
educational institutions in the
country.
President of the Muslim
community of Lagos State,
Prof. Tajudeen Gbadamosi,
who disclosed this at a meeting
with Muslim leaders in
Ikeja, said that the aim was to
provide Muslims a wide range
of knowledge skills and enterprise.
He stated that the scheme
became necessary because in
the various departments of
universities and polytechnics
the ratio of Muslim academics
to other faith based religious
group range from 0 per cent
to 10 per cent.
According to him, “Muslims
can not boast of 10 per cent
among the rank of distinguished
and lawyers.”
Gbadamosi, explained that
the plan is to award 50 students
annually, with the ratio
of ten under graduates and 40
PhDs.
He explained further that the
award would be renewed at
the end of the year provided
that students submit an official

Nigeria’s Nationhood,”
will feature a former
lawmaker, Dr Usman Bugaje,
a Political Economist and
Founder, Centre for Value in
Leadership, Prof. Pat Utomi
and an erudite scholar cum
Dean, Faculty of Arts, University
of Ibadan, Prof. Afiz
Oladosu, as guest speakers.
The speakers, he said,
were carefully selected to
report of satisfactory performance.
“The objective is to tackle
the paucity of highly skilled
manpower in the Muslim
community and produced
more PhD holders.” Gbadamosi
said.
In his remarks another Islamic
Scholar, Imam Shakiru
Ayinde Gafar, popularly
known as ‘Mofesaye’’ called
on Muslim organizations to
support the scheme and ensure
its success.
He said that education is
important to mankind and
that human beings are
placed above all other
things created by God.
Mofesaye advised those
behind the programme to
make sure that students
from poor backgrounds
benefit from the scheme.
In his contribution, the
Deputy National Missioner
of Nawair-ur-deen Society
of Nigeria, Sheikh Abdulmajeed,
suggested that each
Muslim organizations and
Central Mosque across the
state should contribute certain
amount weekly towards
the scheme.
Sheikh Abdulmajeed,
however, lauded the programme
stating that seeking
knowledge is a must for every
human being in Islam.
According to the Chief
Imam of the School, Alhaji
Imam Haroun Bilal Olurode,
the chief lecturer is Dr. Sirajdeen
al-Asrau Bilal while
the Chief Imam of Islahudeen
Society, Sheikh Mukadam
Akinola and the Chief
Imam of Islahudeen
(Akewukawe) Imam Ishaq
Mudathir Ajiboponle will be
the Chief Moderators. The
occasion will be chaired by
Engr. Idris Olumoye Jabar.

UIMGA gives scholarships to
indigent students
THE University of Ibadan Muslim Graduates’ Associa
tion (UIMGA) has doled out cash in scholarships to several
indigent students.
The 2021 annual scholarship award was held recently at the University
of Ibadan Central Mosque with twenty beneficiaries going
home with cash gift meant to settle their academic financial needs.
More than half a million naira were distributed to the twenty selected
indigent students.
Speaking at the occasion, the National President of the association,
Alhaji Imran Mojeed advised the beneficiaries to be more
dedicated to their studies, stating that the token will go a long way
to ease their financial needs towards their academic pursuit.
He stated that although the association has a lot of projects competing
for funds, but it places more premiums on financial assistance
for indigent students.
Emphasising the need for proper education, he advised Muslims in
general to always prepare themselves, through education, for opportunities
which may present themselves at any time. He encouraged
the beneficiaries to always be active as members of the Muslim
Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) for more opportunities.
Delivering a paper at the occasion, Alhaja Arogundade Aminat, a
Counseling Psychologist and the National Treasurer of the association,
advised the students not to depart from the path of dignity
and honour.
Speaking on a wide range of issues such as good behaviour, spiritual
life, giving back to the society and the need for showing gratitude,
Alhaja Arogundade encouraged the beneficiaries and Muslims
in general not to bring the image of Islam to disrepute anywhere
they find themselves as religion is judged by the behaviours
of its adherents.
In own remarks, the Chairman of the Scholarship Committee,
Alhaji Abdulahi Adelakun stated that the scheme remains a cardinal
project of the association in spite of paucity of fund being experienced.
He therefore passionately appealed to well-meaning individuals
to partner with the association towards assisting indigent
university students across the country, adding that interested donors
can donate into the association’s bank account: Ecobank A/C
No:1673000385. He expressed gratitude to donors including Dr.
Wale Babalakin, Engr. Mutairu Adeniran, Alhaja Bolatito Aremu
and Mr. Kazeem Giwa amongst others.
