39th <strong>Lichfield</strong> Festival to<br />

Eleven days of ballet, cabaret, symphony orchestras, steel pans,<br />

family fun, chamber music, live cook<strong>in</strong>g, story-tell<strong>in</strong>g, drama,<br />

laugh-out-loud comedy can only mean one th<strong>in</strong>g – <strong>Lichfield</strong><br />

Festival is back! Tak<strong>in</strong>g place between 8th-18th July, the annual<br />

event br<strong>in</strong>gs thousands of visitors to the beautiful cathedral city<br />

and is a cornerstone <strong>in</strong> the region’s cultural calendar.<br />

Headl<strong>in</strong>e performers <strong>in</strong>clude vocalists Mica Paris, Eddi Reader, Liza<br />

Pulman, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, vocal group I Fagiol<strong>in</strong>i,<br />

impressionist turned pianist Alistair McGowan, Grimethorpe Colliery<br />

Band, comedian Just<strong>in</strong> Moorhouse, Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda<br />

Owen.<br />

This year will see a range of diverse events <strong>in</strong>clude cabaret, flamenco,<br />

steel pans, chamber music, live cook<strong>in</strong>g, literary talks, family fun, comedy,<br />

jazz and Young Artists series. There will also be music by Artists <strong>in</strong><br />

Residence Chloë Hanslip (viol<strong>in</strong>), Danny Driver (piano), Jessica Walker<br />

(writer/s<strong>in</strong>ger) and Joseph Atk<strong>in</strong>s (composer/piano), as well as an Aspire!<br />

Family Day outdoors.<br />

This year’s Artists <strong>in</strong> Residence, Chloë Hanslip and Danny<br />

Driver, play the first of three duo concerts, each featur<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

major viol<strong>in</strong> and piano sonata by Beethoven. The programme<br />

also <strong>in</strong>cludes César Franck’s Sonata <strong>in</strong> A major, one of the f<strong>in</strong>est<br />

viol<strong>in</strong> and piano works ever written.<br />

Chloë Hanslip made her Proms debut at 14 and has performed at<br />

major venues <strong>in</strong> the UK (Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall), Europe<br />

(Musikvere<strong>in</strong>, Paris Louvre, St Petersburg Hermitage), as well as the<br />

Carnegie Hall, and Metropolitan Arts Space, Tokyo. She last played at the<br />

Festival <strong>in</strong> 2016 as soloist <strong>in</strong> The Lark Ascend<strong>in</strong>g with BBCNOW.<br />

Danny Driver is recognised <strong>in</strong>ternationally as an artist of<br />

sophistication, <strong>in</strong>sight and musical depth, with an enviably broad<br />

repertoire encompass<strong>in</strong>g works from Bach and Handel to Ligeti and<br />

Adès. He was a Festival Artist <strong>in</strong> Residence <strong>in</strong> 2018, appear<strong>in</strong>g with<br />

BBCNOW as soloist <strong>in</strong> Rachman<strong>in</strong>ov’s Piano Concerto No.2.<br />
