Re: 2012 Sewer Cleaner Truck
Summary:
The City currently owns a 1987 sewer cleaner truck and its due for replacement. Through a
public bidding process, two bids were received for a new Sewer Cleaner truck. The bid also
included a provision for the trade in of the current vehicle. Delivery lead-time for this vehicle
is estimated to be approximately 4-6 months.
Previous Council Action:
The FY 2013 budget includes $270,000.00 in Sewer Fund, 06-6300-6200, Equipment-
Operations for this purchase.
Background/Problem Discussion:
Our goal is to sustain our city sewer system in good and safe condition. In order to reach that
goal, we need to perform routine maintenance of the 32 miles of piping. Regular high
velocity cleaning is necessary. The 1987 truck was purchased from Clean Water Services
used and is now completely worn out.
Alternatives/Financial Implications:
The funds are a budgeted cost in the Sewer Fund. There is a significant potential for
expensive repairs to this 25-year-old vehicle if not replaced soon.
Advisory Committee Vote (if needed):
The Public Works Advisory Board is supportive of and recommends this purchase
Recommendation:
City Council approval and authorization for the City Manager to sign a contract with General
Equipment Company (low bidder) for a 2012 Aquatech SJ-1500 sewer cleaner in an amount
not to exceed $187,566.00.
Proposed Motion:
I make a motion that the Cornelius City Council acting as the Contract Review Board,
authorize the City Manager to sign a contract up to $187,566.00 with General Equipment
Company for the purchase of a 2012 Aquatech sewer cleaner truck.
