SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

ASSOCIATION (THAILAND) SECURES

CO-OPERATION TO REDUCE MARINE

PLASTIC POLLUTION

Pollution of the sea is a hot

topic these days, supported

by powerful images of divers

in pristine waters surrounded

by colorful natural reef habitats,

but alas with these totally

spoiled by huge quantities

of floating plastic waste.

A staggering eight million

tons of plastic waste is

dumped into the ocean either

directly or indirectly every

year. One alarming statistic

is that there will be more

plastic than fish in the world’s

oceans by just 2050.

The Solid Waste Management

Association (Thailand)

– SWAT has been set

up to reduce plastic waste

reaching the oceans and in

keeping with its mandate is

launching its Plastic Footprint

Reduction Project within the

framework of the United Nations

Environment Program’s

SEA circular project. This in

turn was initiated by the Coordinating

Body on the Seas

of East Asia (COBSEA) and

backed by the Government of

Sweden.

A Memorandum of Cooperation

was signed recently between

SWAT and participants

in the food and beverage industry,

the hotel industry, the

manufacturing sector and the

education sector.

The President of SWAT,

Prof. Dr. Orathai Chavalparit,

was quoted as saying,

“This is an important project

for the environment and sustainability

in Thailand and I

am pleased to see the formal

launch of the Plastic Footprint

Reduction Project today

as we have been working on

this project since last year

right through the Covid 19

pandemic.”

Amongst the companies

and organizations already

involved are Sukosol Hotel,

S&P Syndicate Public Company

Limited, Cosmos Brewery

(Thailand) Co., Ltd., Six

Senses Hotels Resorts Spas,

Mae Fah Luang University, SI-

TEX Industry Corporation Co.,

Ltd., Doi Kham Food Products

Co., Ltd., Wieng Theong Municipality,

TPBI Public Company

Limited, Wat Soi Thong

School, SAPPE Public Company

Limited and Mater Dei

School.

The Chair of the Plastic

Footprint Reduction Project

and Vice President of SWAT,

Dr. Chindarat Taylor, was

quoted as saying, “Marine

plastic pollution is a major

global issue, and we need to

take action urgently. We hope

that these pioneering companies

and organizations will go

on to be ‘catalysts’ for further

transformation in Thailand for

years to come.”

SWAT works with many

partners in Thailand to assist

with assessing their plastic

footprint in a similar way that

urgent assessment of carbon

footprints is occurring across

the world with regard to global

warming. Yet in this instance

the aim is to markedly reduce

plastic waste in the Kingdom

by promoting a circular approach,

namely the reduction,

recycling and re-use of plastic

products.

Project Manager for the

Plastic Footprint Reduction

Project, Patarapol Tularak,

was quoted as saying,

“Shared learning and the exchange

of ideas are important

aspects of this project

and we will organize future

events such as roundtable discussions

and sharing of best

practice sessions when we are

further down the track with this

project.”

STEVE DICKENS

GADGETS TO AMUSE YOU

DURING THE PANDEMIC!

There’s nothing

quite like the excitement

of buying

a brand new

gadget. Opening

the box, pulling it

out, slowly peeling

off the protective

stickers… it’s

always a thrilling

moment for any tech

fan, so I’ve gathered

a few gadgets

here to help get you

through the Covid

boredom!

TrinoXO Tee

An odour-fighting T-shirt made

of recycled crab. Yes, you read

that right. This unassuming T-shirt

is made of chitosan, a material obtained

from the exoskeletons of

shellfish.

It’s one of the most abundant ingredients

on the planet, so its creators,

Allbirds, decided to use it to

make some of its clothing line. According

to Allbirds, this special blend

also has odour-fighting properties

(it presumably has a surface that’s

hard for smelly bacteria to colonise),

which hopefully means you have to

wash it less, and it’ll last longer.

Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool

Formaldehyde

While many of us know air pollution

harms our health, we may have

overlooked what’s happening inside

our homes. It turns out that cooking

and cleaning are filling our homes with

pollutants at higher concentrations than

those outside. Even our furniture is

off-gassing formaldehyde – a chemical

used in its production.

So what can you do? Well, you

could just reject society and retreat to

the woods (we’ve considered it a few

times this year), but if that’s not an option,

you may want to consider an air

purifier.

The latest version of Dyson’s Purifier

Hot+Cool is kitted out with filters to

tackle the particles invading our home’s

air, including formaldehyde. It also has

loads of sensors to provide insight into

what’s generating the most pollution

(cooking, in our case, made the air

quality ‘severe’), and it doubles as an

effective fan or heater.

DJI FPV drone

Fancy yourself as a drone pilot?

DJI’s new drone beams the view

from its camera straight to a headset

back on terra firma. You see what the

drone sees.

It’s a user-friendly version of

what drone-racing pilots use in competitions.

The drone itself

can move at a max

speed of 140km/h

(87mph) and can

reach 0-60mph in

just two seconds.

It has a max range

of 10km (6 miles),

but you’ll need a

spotter who can

keep an eye out

for people or obstructions

below

while you fly.

The tech is

pretty power hungry,

so you’ll get

a maximum of 25

minutes out of a

flight, but it will be

one helluva ride.

Sony FX3

Sony’s FX3 is the smallest, cheapest

cinema camera the company has

ever made. It’s built for filmmakers,

rather than photographers, so it can

handle recording ultra HD video at

120fps for long periods.

It comes bundled with a handle

that’s ideal for shooting from low angles

and it adds extra sockets for plugging

in different audio inputs. There’s

also in-body image stabilisation for

when you’re “running and gunning”.

The camera will also play nice

with Sony’s yet-to-be-released Airpeak

drone. At 715g, it’s a bit too bulky to

fit in your pocket, but it’s light enough

and small enough to take wherever you

go. Keep an eye out for it in the hands

of your favourite YouTuber soon, and

whilst I’d love one

at a RRP of around

B200,000 it’s a bit beyond

my means!

BUSINESS SUPPLEMENT

PBRE IS NOW OFFERING PROPERTY FINANCE

Interested in one of our

great deals ?

When we purchase our

properties back home, we often

think of finance first, even

for those fortunate enough to

have ample funding as having

finance is often envisaged as

way of leveraging our investments,

for the rest of us with

less funding, financing is many

cases our only option to purchase

that home we’ve always

dreamed of.

Most financial outlets in

Thailand will provide loans

for the real estate market to

local Thai nationals and Thai

companies based on a similar

format to what we are used to

in our own countries, however

foreigners in many cases are

generally unable to finance

through these same institutions

although in recent times

a relaxation in these rules have

been instigated however these

are still a rare occurrence.

Personal Circumstances

If you have a Thai spouse,

a mortgage application with a

bank is an easier process and

provides you with a higher success

rate of a positive outcome,

if your spouse has an income or

not will sometimes depend on

the amount you are able to borrow

loan to value from the bank,

however, many banks stipulate

that loans on mortgages can

not be held once the borrower

reaches 60 years of age.

Private Loans.

If you are not eligible for bank

finance for whatever reason

and your dream property is out

of reach then private financing

may be the only way forward for

you, understand that a private

loan will be more expensive, but

with that it has its positives

including less hassle to obtain

the necessary funds and quick

decisions, lifestyle buyers will

generally opt for this option as

they are not concerned as they

are not focused on rental returns

or long-term yields. Many

options are available with this

route, we here at Pbre have a

solution for buyers of properties

in Thailand that lack the funds

to purchase a property outright

and are unable to finance

through the above routes, contact

us now for terms and conditions.

• Loans from 5,10,15 & 20 years

• Up to 70% LTV on the property

• Minimum loan amount of 1 million

Baht

• Available for any nationality

• Property title stays in borrower

name

• No medical or other insurances

required

• Quick and easy loans available

Furthermore, Pbre have

many years of experience helping

clients in the real estate

market to purchase their ideal

property, we will guide you

through each step of the way to

help you through the whole process

until the property becomes

your very own dream home in

paradise.

FOREIGN CURRENCY UPDATE

The U.S. Dollar

Recent U.S. Dollar strength

was short-lived and has quickly

reversed as the Greenback

notched up steady losses. Interest

rates on the 10-year note

leveled off from recent highs of

1.74 per cent back down to 1.59

per cent, yet this may be a temporary

move. The DXY Dollar

index, the index that measures

the U.S. Dollar’s value against a

basket of major currencies, fell

relentlessly from 93.31 to 90.07,

a move of more than three per

cent. Against the Thai Baht, the

U.S. Dollar rose from 30.69 and

has been largely range bound

between 31.16 and 31.57. Typically

if the U.S. Dollar weakens

then one U.S. Dollar should buy

less baht, not more. The move

in the USDTHB exchange rate

indicates that the Thai Baht is

weakening even faster than the

U.S. Dollar.

The British Pound

The British Pound pierced the

1.40 mark against the U.S. Dollar

and traded above 1.4245, a

three-year high, before retreating

slightly to 1.4191. Thus

there is notable resistance at

this level and the low volatility

of recent action could portend

a sharp move either way in the

future. Against the Thai Baht,

the Pound rose from 42.75

to 44.56, in keeping with the

weaker local currency.

The Japanese Yen

The Japanese Yen strengthened

against the U.S. Dollar from

110.86 to 107.72 before rebounding

back to 109.76. When the

USDJPY rate falls, this indicates

a rise in the value of the Yen since

a dollar buys less Yen than it did

previously. U.S. Dollar weakness

is most likely to be behind the

move, but the Yen has weakened

also, just not to the same extent.

With stock markets still notching

up new highs there has been no

flight to safety to the Yen in this

respect, however if there is a selloff

in equities then the Yen could

strengthen further. Against the

Thai Baht, the Yen rose slightly

from 0.2798 to 0.2811

The Russian Ruble

The Russian Ruble moved from

77.61 to 73.11 against the U.S.

Dollar. The large move is in

keeping with that of the U.S.

Dollar’s weakness, but is still

considered low volatility for the

Russian unit. As well, since this

was Dollar driven, the price action

of the Ruble itself could be

seen as only slight appreciation

in real terms. Against the Thai

Baht the Ruble moved from

0.411 to 0.425.

The Euro

The Euro moved up almost in a

straight line from 1.1729 against

the U.S. Dollar to hit 1.2249 before

retreating slightly to 1.2189. Whilst

ECB and Federal Reserve heads

both remain dovish, inflation numbers

on both sides of the Atlantic

are being closely watched. Against

the Thai Baht, the Euro rallied from

36.62 to 37.89.

IT'S NOT JUST

MARKETING -

IT'S PERSONAL

BUSINESS SUPPLEMENT

There are over 1 billion websites

on the world wide web today,

the majority of your competitors

have websites, most

have social media accounts too.

So, how do you convince your

potential customers that you are

the best in the business before

you have even spoken to them?

I have always put a lot of

emphasis into creating a truly

personal online experience and

really making your potential clients

understand that you are

real people doing a real job and

not just a website that may be

here today and gone tomorrow,

this is more important to most

consumers than you think. Trust

is one of the biggest factors in

online marketing and I’ve written

a few tips on how you can

use the tools available to develop

trust within your target market.

Create a professional and

most importantly unique online

experience, look at what your

competitors are doing but also

at what they are not doing and

how you can present your product

and services better than

they do.

Does your website answer

the questions which users are

asking? When someone arrives

at your website primarily they

want to know three things - ‘Do

they do what I’m looking for?’ ,

‘Can I afford it?’ & ‘Can I trust

them?’ Make sure that you present

your content clearly and it is

obvious to users how they can

take the next step - a website

which doesn’t turn visitors into

business is useless and a drain

on your resources instead of an

additional source of income.

Ensure that everything works

correctly, your website usability

is the first impression of your

company’s customer service

levels. A broken website shows

that you are not paying attention

to your clients needs.

Make your online space personal

includes using real images

of your team and your business,

not stock images.

Get testimonials from your

customers, with photos and videos

is best if possible. You can

even sign up to a site like Tripadvisor

or Trust Pilot which are

independent review sites and

can carry a lot of weight when

people are preparing to make a

purchase online.

Introduce live chat into your

site and helping your website

visitors to move down the sales

funnel by answering their questions

and alleviating their concerns.

Show personalised content

to your users based on their

previous visits to your website,

location, device and much more.

As online marketers we are

no longer selling products or

services, we are selling a customer

experience. During these

difficult economic times when

less and less business is available

we need to look at more

ways to enrich the customer experience.

Your potential customers

could be comparing you to your

competitors at any time and the

worst thing is that you don’t

even know it.

By creating a professional

and personalised website you

can move one step ahead of

the competition and keep more

of the market share in your industry.

While bar charts, line graphs

and simple numbers are hardly

capable of providing the defining

answer to many economic,

social and political questions,

they are certainly a good way of

obtaining a general overview of

any particular subject.

Each month the Business

Supplement will look into a

brace of statistical information

and provide readers with what

we consider to be the central elements

of these figures.

CAR SALES IN

THAILAND

RECOVERING

Domestic car sales within Thailand

in March 2021 surged 25.47 per

cent year on year, to reach 74,295

vehicles. The rise was partly due to a

dip the previous year.

In the prior months of this year,

the domestic car industry saw weak

trading conditions. In February 2021

only 58,960 cars were sold, a drop of

13.64 per cent on the previous year,

and in January 2021 sales plunged

21.3 per cent year-on-year to 55,208

units.

The calendar year of 2020 was

a year of recovery as car sales rose

from low levels at the start of the pandemic

to finish on a high note topping

104,000 units in December, an 11.3

BUSINESS SUPPLEMENT

JUST THE STATISTICS

per cent rise year-on-year.

Yet, the early part of 2020 saw

a slump due to the commencement

of the Covid19 pandemic, with just

30,109 units sold in April 2020 and

40,418 units sold in May.

A steady increase did start to occur

thereafter with 58,013 units sold

in June, 59,335 units sold in July and

68,883 cars sold in August.

September, October and November

of last year saw sales of 77,433,

74,114 and 79,177 vehicles respectively.

The last time that more than

100,000 cars were sold in a single

month was in March 2019 when

103,164 units were sold, an increase

of 9.1 per cent year-on-year.

THAILAND’S

INFLATION

RATE STILL

NEGATIVE

Thailand’s consumer prices

dropped 0.08 per cent year-on-year in

March 2021 compared to an expectation

of a rise of 0.1per cent.

It was the thirteenth month in a

row of deflation, but also the shallowest

number during the same period.

In the previous month the number

showed a more pronounced 1.17 per

cent fall.

On a monthly basis, consumer

prices rose modestly to the tune of

0.23 per cent compared to the prior

month, following a monthly fall of 0.91

per cent a month earlier.

Prior to this most recent 13-month

period of deflation, inflation rates were

range bound between 0.2 per cent

and 1.8 percent for the four-year period

between April 2016 and March

2020.

There have only been three other

periods of time in the last 30 years that

Thailand has experienced deflation

and these were during the aftermath

of the Asian financial crisis in 1998,

during the aftermath of the global financial

crisis in 2009, and for a 16

month period in 2015.

THAI AIRASIA’S

MAIN SHAREHOLDER

TO GET 3.15 BILLION

BAHT LOAN

Thai AirAsia’s (TAA’s) largest

shareholder, Asia Aviation

(AAV), has agreed to a 3.15

billion baht loan from a new

investor after its attempts to

secure funding in the form of

soft loans from the government

have so far been unsuccessful.

Executive chairman of AAV,

Tassapon Bijleveld, was quoted

as saying, "We cannot wait

for the government to allocate

soft loans airlines requested

a year ago. We hope the

agreement with a new investor

will help the airline preserve

liquidity and maintain flight

operations as usual when

the aviation industry bounces

back early next year.”

AAV will commence a restructuring

of its business and

is also expected to launch an

IPO for TAA as part of this process.

TAA will be listed on the

Stock Exchange of Thailand

and will replace the holding

company AAV. A direct listing

of TAA will benefit the airline

if it needs to raise more funds.

The loan from the new investor

is interest free and

comes in the form of convertible

bonds or a convertible

loan agreement.

Mr. Tassapon was also

quoted as saying, "Our new

local investor has never been

involved in the aviation industry,"

adding, "After restructuring,

we'll have a new representative

on the company's

board, but I assure you it won't

impact the operations of TAA."

FACTORY OUTPUT

RISES FOR THE FIRST

TIME IN 23 MONTHS

Thailand’s manufacturing

production index in March

rose 4.12% year-on-year, its

first rise in nearly 2 years. The

Industry Ministry also

expects increases in the following

months, even though a

third wave of Covid-19 has occurred

in the last month or so.

The director-general of the

Office of Industrial Economics,

Thongchai Chawalitpichaet,

was quoted as saying, "Production

is going as usual. The

global economy is also improving

with exports sharply

rising.”

Capacity utilization in the

same month rose from the previous

month’s level of 65.06%

to hit 69.59%.

RICE EXPORT TAXES TO

BE REDUCED

The Commerce Ministry’s

plan to slash the export taxes

on rice shipments to the EU

and UK under agreed quotas

has been approved in principle

by the Cabinet.

It comes at a time when

Thailand’s rice export market

faces stiff competition from

other rice producing countries

such as Vietnam and India.

The surcharges for shipments

to the UK have been

reduced from 2,500 baht per

tonne to just 1,200 baht per

tonne. Shipments to the EU

had their surcharges cut from

2,500 baht per tonne to 1,500

baht per tonne.

The export surcharges

commenced in 1997, with the

money being used to support

the International Trade Promotion

Fund. The cuts are expected

to lead to a reduction

of 31 million baht per year in

proceeds to the fund.

CHINESE BUYERS

FIXATED BY ‘BLIND BOX’

TOY MANIA

BUSINESS SUPPLEMENT

AROUND THE ASIAN REGION

A new craze is sweeping across

China and that is the ‘Blind Box’ toy

phenomenon. Popular with young

Chinese buyers, the mystery provides

a good deal of excitement and the fact

that some of the blind boxes contain

rare or collectable items has fuelled

demand of late.

Those that happen to come

across rare toys are turning to the

collector’s market to resell them for a

tidy profit. Even the numerous duplicate

toys that people happen to come

across have fuelled a bustling second

hand market online.

Toys are typically just a few inches

in size and can be pop art, film characters

or even rare mini-archaeological

pieces. Many of the individual toys

are parts of ranges, and a complete

range could be worth a lot of money

even if the individual elements are not

so rare.

18-year-old music student Wang

Zhaoxue who has a collection of mystery

toys that numbers into the hundreds,

was quoted as saying, "It was

something quite novel, which got my

attention," adding that the mystery element

made it quite fun, "if you shake

it, and then feel the box, you can

sometimes deduce what's inside.”

The new craze has allowed some

toy makers to make big profits at a

time when toy sales may otherwise

be flat.

Steffi Noel, a consumer analyst

at Daxue Consulting, was quoted as

saying, "One of the reasons behind

the success of blind boxes is that they

divide their products into different categories

of rarity," adding, "They set a

barrier, expressing the idea that not

everyone can get the most special

boxes. It generates a sense of competition."

The blind box market is expected

to be worth up to 30 billion Yuan by

2024, up from 7.4 billion Yuan in 2019.

JAPAN’S SONY REVEALS

BIGGEST EVER PROFIT

Tokyo-based consumer electronics

company, Sony, announced record

profits for its latest financial year, citing

the popularity of its gaming consoles

as a driver of growth during the

pandemic.

Net profit surged more than 100

per cent year-on-year to 1.17 trillion

yen (US$10.7 billion), on revenue of

8.99 trillion yen.

Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at Ace

Research Institute, was quoted as

saying, "The impact of lockdown demand

on its game sector was sizable

though the pandemic hit revenue from

movie theatres hard," adding, "Sony

experienced both positive and negative

aspects of the coronavirus, but

overall, the pandemic benefited Sony

a lot.”

As it announced its record results

the company forecasted lower profits

for the next financial year as the potential

for gaming console demand

may potentially wane going forward.

FITNESS & YOU

- THE KEY TO A BETTER LIFE -

WEIGHTS

AND

AEROBICS

TOGETHER

A few years ago a group of fitness

researchers in both Canada

and Sweden conducted a series of

experiments involving combined

weight training and aerobic exercise,

and what they found basically

overturned previous accepted theories

about doing weights and aerobics

at the same time.

BUSINESS SUPPLEMENT

For years the general theory

among those involved in the

fitness industry was that training

should be separated, that is,

weights should be done on one

day and aerobic exercise should

be done on a different day.

The theory was that doing

weights and aerobics on the same

day would lead to some kind of

muscle confusion and therefore an

‘antagonism’ between them. So,

anyone who went for a five-kilometre

run in the morning shouldn’t

then come back and start pushing

iron, or vice versa. This is not because

doing both would do any

damage as such, but because the

benefits of doing them separately

would be better than doing them

combined.

In fact, there was very little evidence

for this theory, so the Swedish

and Canadian studies were of

great use in actually debunking

this long-held theory.

Without going into the specifics

of the testing by the research

scientists, the bottom line was that

neither study saw any evidence of

the expected muscle ‘confusion’

from combining a weight and aerobic

protocol.

The Karolinska Institute in

Sweden stated, ‘It appears concurrent

aerobic and resistance

exercise may enhance the skeletal

muscle anabolic environment.’

They concluded that resistance

training and aerobic activity ‘can

successfully be scheduled on the

same day without compromising

performance…’

The Canadians, at McMaster

University, suggested ‘that concurrent

training is as effective as

either isolated mode in stimulating

acute myofibrillar and mitochondrial

protein synthesis rates…’

In plainer English, endurance

is built on mitochondria pathways

while strength is generated by myofibrils.

So the Canadians were

saying both strength and endurance

gains were not hampered in

any way by doing both activities

concurrently. If you happen to be

training at home with some Powerblocks

and then finish off by getting

aboard the stationery bike for

five, 10, 20 minutes or whatever,

then your body will not be ‘confused’

by this in any way.

Indeed, the Swedish and Canadian

researchers suggested doing

both might even lead to a better

long-term result that doing just one

or the other on a specific day.

The bottom line is that if you

happen to be in the mood or in a

position to spend, say, 15 minutes

going for a three-kilometre run and

then you feel fresh enough to do

another 15-20 minutes of weights,

then go for it.

If you’d still prefer to do just

one or the other on different days,

then that’s fine as well.

UNDERSTANDING THE STOCK

MARKETS – EARNINGS SEASON

In our previous introduction

to understanding the world’s

stock markets we looked at

the value of companies and

touched on some of the things

that make share prices move.

Unsurprisingly, when a

company reports its earnings

and other business particulars

including forward outlook,

share prices can move quite

violently.

Major public U.S. companies

are required to report

quarterly, hence in the U.S.

there are four ‘earnings seasons’

in a given year.

RESULTS VS.

ANALYSTS’

EXPECTATIONS

On the run up to each earnings

season, stock market analysts

are polled by leading

polling companies as to

what they expect each

company to have

achieved during

the last financial

period.

A company could have a

bad quarter but if they surpass

the analysts’ expectations

their share price could still

rise. Conversely if a company

misses the expectations of the

analysts, then their stock price

could fall dramatically, even if

they achieved stellar results.

In this topsy-turvy world

it is important to note what

the expectations are. In the

U.S., leading polling companies

such as Refinitiv collate

a large number of analysts’

notes and come up with an

all-encompassing number for

revenue and profit expectations.

You can often find their

results within news posts on financial

websites such as cnbc.

com

ADDITIONAL FAC-

TORS FOR HIGH-

GROWTH STOCKS

Companies that

are growing typically

have a higher

premium built into

their stock price than

those that have a

relative ly static

income. In the

U.S., companies

that are

growing explosively

such

as Amazon,

Tesla, Google

and Facebook

command a

huge premium

because their

growth rate is high

and/or may be accelerating.

As soon as the growth rate falters

then the premium may be

seen as excessive and stocks

can easily sell off. At the current

time it is mainly high-tech

stocks that command very high

premiums as these are seen to

have exceptional growth prospects.

Stock analysts are not only

looking at profits and revenue.

For companies that rely on a

large user base they are also

giving their opinion on how

many new users should be

added each quarter in order to

maintain stellar growth.

Take for example the wellknown

movie streaming company,

Netflix. It recently reported

earnings per share of

US$3.75, significantly ahead

of analyst’s expectations of

just US$2.97 (an almost 25

per cent beat), and exceeded

the bar for revenue, achieving

US$7.16 billion vs. US$7.13

billion expected. It also added

3.98 million new subscribers,

but this wasn’t enough because

expectations were for

6.2 million additions. The company’s

shares plunged more

than eleven per cent on the

news even though it beat on

revenue and earnings. Arguably

the share price already

had the good news baked

in and the potentially lower

growth was unwelcome.

Of course if growth stays on

pace, or even accelerates at a

higher pace then stock prices

can rally strongly too. A substantially

higher rate of profitability

may also have a positive

effect. Google (Alphabet)

shares rose 4.8 per cent as the

company announced earnings

per share (EPS) of US$26.29

on revenues of US$55.31 billion

against analysts’ expectations

of just US$15.82 of

EPS on revenues of US$51.7

billion. The premium was thus

preserved with the stellar numbers.

For long-term investors,

earnings seasons can be a

time when they can reflect on

their holdings or other positions

in the market and make

adjustments even if it is after

some volatile moves.

• POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS

DON’T JUST LOOK – THEY ENGAGE!

Studies have proven that LED signage makes an impression

on people. Just like this part of the world, a study revealed

that 70% of Americans who recall seeing a digital video

display in the past month, 47 percent specifically recall

seeing an ad. That’s nearly half! And of those travelers who

remember spotting a digital billboard, 82 percent recall

that it was displaying an ad.

• LED BILLBOARD v

STATIC BILLBOARD

To establish the difference between LED Billboards and Static Billboards

one study used anonymous video analytics to log the number of people

who noticed both static and digital signs at a number of locations.

The number of “impressions” (that is, people paying attention) logged by

the static sign peaked on its first day in place. After that, they dropped

off and remained low for the remaining weeks of the study. But the

digital signs received consistently high numbers of impressions

throughout the study—receiving almost as many every day as the static

sign received the first day.
