I would like to thank everyone who kept things running smoothly at the Village, including our office staff and first responders, the members of our Crestwood EMA — see our story on them in the pages of this edition of the Crestwood Adviser — those in public works, in our schools and businesses, and all our residents who did their part to keep the pandemic from getting the upper hand here in our village. It’s good to know that in a crisis, our Village on the move can move together to overcome it. And in the wake of the past year, Crestwood continues to grow. From the American Rescue Plan Act Fund’s COVID relief package, we have been granted $1 million to aid in our economic recovery. We also have received another $1 million in state capital grant monies for the development of a new fire house. Details on the build and its positive impact on our Village services will be announced at a later date. While it’s still early, we would like to remind everyone that Crestwood will once again be offering its annual property tax rebate. The application period for rebates will open Tuesday, Sept. 7th. Checks will be issued in November, as usual. We are always proud of our fiduciary responsibility here in the Village, and we take especially great pride in continually being able to offer property tax rebates to our tax-paying residents and businesses — a sign of Crestwood’s ongoing prosperity. I would like to remind everyone that you, your friends and family are all invited to Ozinga Field for our 7th annual Sparks in the Park celebration. So bring a blanket, lawn chairs — we please ask that they have rounded bottoms so that they don’t damage the field — and picnic baskets to the stadium Friday, July 2nd at 6:00pm. This year’s movie, Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon, will start at 7:00pm. Come on out and let’s enjoy! Lastly, I would like to wish everyone here a happy and safe Independence Day. Please remember, with regard to fireworks, that most are illegal in Illinois, and that they can cause profound anxiety not only to our furry family members who don’t understand the noise, but also to many of our veterans who may be suffering with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Please keep them in mind before you light that fuse. I look forward to seeing you out and about in the Village! While we’re all trying to stay in as much as possible these days due to COVID-19, those needing to go out and about in Crestwood still can take advantage of the Pace Dial-A-Ride system. The bus will take you anywhere within the corporate limits of the Village of Crestwood. Ray, the best bus driver in Crestwood, has been doing an outstanding job for more than 10 years now. He will make sure that you will receive the best service possible. The fee for a one-way trip is $2.25 for adults and $1.00 for students. Senior citizens 65 years of age and over can ride free at all times. The vehicle is wheelchair accessible. You will be picked up at your home, and if that is your return destination, you will be delivered there accordingly. Cicero Ave |July 13th Dial-A-Ride is in service Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 3:45pm. It is easy to set up an appointment to take you where you need to go. Simply call the Village Hall at (708) 371-4800 on the day you would like to ride, then indicate the time you need to be picked up and the approximate time that you will be returning. The Village will do its best to accommodate your time schedule, but many people use this service and with COVID restrictions in place, capacity is lower, so please give yourself a comfortable amount of time to complete your tasks. You will travel in comfort, as the bus is heated in the winter and air conditioned in the summer. COVID-19 restrictions apply — you must wear a COVID-19-appropriate mask and maintain adequate social distancing while aboard. Now you know how it works, so take advantage of the service. July 10th It’s on. The date for this year’s Shredding Event hosted by the Crestwood Police Department has been set for Saturday, July 10th, from 9:00am-12:00pm or until the trucks are filled to capacity. The shredding will take place at the Crestwood Police Department, 13840 S. Cicero Ave. There is no easier way to protect yourself from identity theft while simultaneously helping us to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois. All are welcome to bring their personal and business documents for shredding. This includes old tax returns, business records, bank statements, cancelled checks, credit card statements, bills, receipts, and any other documents. Unlike other shredding events, there is no limit on the amount of shredding you bring, and you do not have to be a Crestwood resident. Shredding will be done for $10 for the first box and $5 for each additional box. All shredding is done onsite, and you can watch as your documents pass through the truck-mounted shredder provided by Beaver Shredding. (708) 448-8006 or (847) 705-4228 Village of Crestwood Parking Crestwood Village ordinance prohibits parking on any village street between 2:00am and 6:00am. The reason for this ordinance is so police will be alerted to abandoned vehicles or suspicious vehicles that require investigation. This ordinance also ensures that all streets throughout the Village will be open to fire and rescue equipment in the event of an overnight emergency. This is especially necessary in areas where narrow streets can block large fire trucks. We will continue to enforce this ordinance. Thank you for your cooperation with this ordinance.
