The bright red-and-white crossing near the school is one of two painted in Innes Rd last month. Principal John Bangma said traffic had already improved since the crossing was painted last month John Bangma near the school. “It’s so visible, you can’t not notice it. People are already approaching it with far more caution,” Bangma said. Parents told him they were also pleased with the change, he said. He observed the changes before and after the colourful crossing while helping with the school road patrol in the mornings and afternoons. Papanui-Innes Community Board chairwoman Emma Norrish said the board had been working on having the crossing upgraded for more than two years. A second red-and-white crossing had also been installed at a second Innes Rd location to benefit pupils at the nearby St Francis of Assisi School. “It’s good to finally have those in place,” Norrish said. In Brief COMMUNICATION ON ROAD WORKS NEEDED The Papanui-Innes Community board is concerned about inadequate communication with the public on work being carried out in its area. The topic was raised in a board meeting on Friday. Members felt it was especially important for people to be aware of larger projects which involved road closures. The board wanted to know what public communication was for the works that resulted in the closure of the Tomes Rd access way until May 2022. FEEDBACK WANTED The city council is seeking public feedback on Plan Change 7 until July 28. The plan aims to protect native vegetation while still providing for its clearance, where it is small scale and low impact, for farming activities. BUILDING DEMOLITION The demolition of buildings at 276 and 278 Westminster St in Mairehau are now set to be carried out in this financial year. A letter received at the Papanui- Innes Community Board meeting on Friday written by city council chief executive Dawn Baxendale confirmed this decision.
