<strong>Lichfield</strong> Proms Back<br />

with a Bang!<br />

Supporters launch the event to end the<br />

summer <strong>in</strong> style, which will take place on<br />

Saturday 4th <strong>September</strong>.<br />

Back for <strong>2021</strong>, <strong>Lichfield</strong> Proms <strong>in</strong> Beacon Park<br />

promises to be an even<strong>in</strong>g of live music, picnics,<br />

s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g and flag wav<strong>in</strong>g, topped off with a<br />

fireworks f<strong>in</strong>ale.<br />

Now <strong>in</strong> its 22nd year, the l<strong>in</strong>e-up will see<br />

children’s activities and refreshments from<br />

5.30pm, Eureka Jazz warm up the crowd as they<br />

f<strong>in</strong>d their places from 6pm, and the ma<strong>in</strong><br />

concert by the British Police Symphony<br />

Orchestra from 7.30pm.<br />

The free entry event organised by <strong>Lichfield</strong><br />

District Council for the whole community is<br />

supported by local companies and<br />

organisations.<br />

Community for Raffle<br />

Funds<br />

St Giles Hospice Ward Sister Ruth Abell<br />

St Giles Hospice has thanked people <strong>in</strong> the<br />

community for their generous support after its<br />

summer raffle raised more than £87,000 – one<br />

of its best-ever totals.<br />

The money raised will be used to support the<br />

care of patients and their families liv<strong>in</strong>g with a<br />

term<strong>in</strong>al illness.<br />

Prizes <strong>in</strong> this year’s summer raffle <strong>in</strong>cluded a<br />

jackpot of £8,000, a second prize of £2,000 and<br />

other cash prizes.<br />

The other top five prize w<strong>in</strong>ners came from<br />

Burton, Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth and<br />

Swadl<strong>in</strong>cote.<br />

St Giles runs two raffles each year <strong>in</strong> addition<br />

to the weekly lottery, provid<strong>in</strong>g vital <strong>in</strong>come for<br />

the hospice. It costs more than £10 million to<br />

provide the care St Giles offers every year and<br />

the hospice needs to raise £850,000 each<br />

month to keep its services go<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

New Crematorium<br />

Donates to Cruse<br />

Millie Grimley, Liam Bennett & Jo Walker present the<br />

cheque to Chris Hillman<br />

Cannock Chase Crematorium recently made a<br />

£10,000 donation to the South Staffordshire<br />

branch of Cruse Bereavement Care, a charity<br />

offer<strong>in</strong>g support, advice and <strong>in</strong>formation to<br />

children, young people and adults when<br />

someone dies.<br />

Cannock Chase Crematorium is a member of<br />

the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium<br />

Management’s (ICCM) metal recycl<strong>in</strong>g scheme,<br />

whereby residual metal items such as<br />

orthopaedic implants or metals used <strong>in</strong> the<br />

construction of the coff<strong>in</strong> are reta<strong>in</strong>ed,<br />

follow<strong>in</strong>g the cremation process, and recycled,<br />

with the written consent of the bereaved family.<br />

The national ICCM scheme, <strong>in</strong>troduced <strong>in</strong> 2006,<br />

has raised over £7 million s<strong>in</strong>ce its <strong>in</strong>ception to<br />

help fund bereavement related charities.<br />

Farewell to<br />

Village Postie!<br />

Villagers from Clifton Campville, Harlaston and<br />

Haunton are pictured at the farewell party for<br />

the village postie, Chris Marlow, at The Green<br />

Man <strong>in</strong> Clifton Campville. The villagers<br />

presented him with two books full of well<br />

wishes for his retirement, together with a cash<br />

collection totall<strong>in</strong>g more than £1,000!<br />

Chris delivered the Mease Valley mail for more<br />

than 10 years, mak<strong>in</strong>g many friends along the<br />

way, with his signature salutations of<br />

“Greet<strong>in</strong>gs” or “Hello Old Boy,” his year-round<br />

shorts-wear<strong>in</strong>g and his <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g range of<br />

headwear!<br />

Villagers say his cheerful presence raised their<br />

spirits, especially all through the recent<br />

pandemic, and that he will be hugely missed.<br />
