Source: Lanka Truth Photo of the day - AFP Minister Mervin Silva has rampaged in to the Sri lanka Rupawahini
Corporation today morning at about 10.00am and manhandled the News Director accusing him and using abusive words
as the SLRC has not telecasted the speech made at the ceremoneous inaugaration of Matara Bridge. TMJ
Chandrasekara, the Director(news) has been victimised for the ministers' and his personnel guards' assault. Having
annoyed by what they witnessed at their own workplace the employees of SLRC have gathered together at the place
where Mervin Silva was seen rampaging in a reckless manner. Describing the incident a spokesman of the SLRC the
minister has accompanied with his thugs recruited as bodyguards to the SLRC premises and the abusive words have
disturbed the employees at work. Having angered with the recklessness of the minister . Rupawahini employees
including newsroom journalists and officers stopped work in protest of the assault by the ministers' bodyguard. They
encircled minister and his thugs and held in Chairman's office in order to hand them over to security guards. Ultimately
Police was called to find that Minister was escorted out of the SLRC premises amidst of mockery by the SLRC and
SLBC employees who were not ready to withstand the harrassments by powerfu politicos. The event was transmitted live
as breaking news so that the public could witness the minister whom they voted for rampaging in a public institution in an
irresponsible manner. Then the presidential secretariat have odered thatthe events recorded must not be telecasted any
more. Minister Mervin Silva has consulted a top official to get that favour done for him, reliable sources revealed. This is
an insult to the government and the amount of media freedom is revealed when the top hands proscribe news visuals,
those SLRC audience long to view, from transmition.
I also urge that peace groups support strengthening the United Nations as an effective international organization, with
binding jurisdiction and a momnopoly of power that would allow nation-states to disarm and to be in a position where
they would feel safe to not have to put their national interest and integrity before other (legitimate) interests.
