OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Operation Christmas Drop Off Dates Child
October 30/31 and November 6/7
First Church is proud to partner with Operation Christmas Child
again this year. Each year, millions of shoe boxes filled with gifts are
delivered to children all over the world. In addition to the gifts, the
children also receive the Gospel in their language, and the opportunity
to attend discipleship lessons. Will you help change the life of
a child?
How to pack a shoebox:
1. Find a shoebox: Start with an average-size cardboard or
plastic shoebox If you want to wrap it, cover the box and lid
separately. Shoeboxes are also available in the lobby of the
campuses.
2. Girl or boy: Decide whether you will pack a box for a girl or a
boy, and the age category, 2-4, 5-9, 10-14.
3. Fill with gifts: Select a medium to large “wow” item such as a
soccer ball with pump or stuffed animal, then fill with other fun
toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. All items should be
new and unused (handmade items are welcome). No liquids,
medicines or war-related items!
4. Pray: Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive
your gift. You can also include a personal note and photo.
5. All donations can be dropped off before and after services or
at the church office during business hours of 8 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.,
Monday thru Friday.
Don’t have time to pack a shoebox?
You might choose to help with a financial donation instead. This
covers shipping and any extra supplies needed to fill boxes. $9
covers shipping a box for 1 child. $30 pays for a filled box and
shipping for one child. Write checks to FUMC with “Operation
Christmas Child” in the memo.

Fall back one hour on Sunday, November 7.
Valley boat ramp (look for the sign for the Sunken Garden Trail sign). Dress appropriately
for the day. Drop off and pick up of youth will be at Moraine. Contact
Alex at aevanoff@butlerfumc.com with questions.
Throughout Thanksgiving and Christmas, we will love our neighbors with the following
collections. It is not expected that you give to every collection but our prayer is
that there may be one that touches your heart. These organizations and all of First
Church staff appreciate any and every way that you can support our neighbors.
Items can be dropped off at services or at the church office during business hours.
BROKEN THINGS...PICKING UP THE PIECES
Our conversations around the staff table this fall have focused a good deal on the
places where First Church continues to live shackled to her past and the pain that
past contains. We’ve talked about the importance of naming that pain – the
brokenness stemming from the painful things of the last decade. In this series, we
want to primarily use the story of the man with the shriveled hand in Matthew 12 to
address the broken places in our individual lives and our life together as a church.
We want to circle how Jesus engages “broken things” in life, and invite us to see
our brokenness through his eyes. The target at the end is having named our brokenness
in the presence of Jesus, we can offer it to him for healing and allow him
to begin writing a new chapter in the First Church story.
You are encouraged to bring your bible or an electronic device (phone/tablet) to
read along with scripture readings during the service.
TAKING IT HOME
Our readings for the week ahead are:
MONDAY, November 1..................................................................2 Peter 1; Psalm 141
TUESDAY, November 2....................................................................2 Peter 2; Psalm 142
WEDNESDAY, November 3.............................................................2 Peter 3; Psalm 143
THURSDAY, November 4........................................................................................John 1
FRIDAY, November 5...........................................................................John 2; Psalm 144
SATURDAY, November 6.....................................................................John 3; Psalm 145
SUNDAY, November 7...........................................................................................John 4
