1 season brings together Wycombe
and Portsmouth for today’s fixture,
with the Chairboys eager to
recapture the form that saw them
win all six of their opening home
fixtures this term before Ipswich
prevented a magnificent seven 11
days ago.

All six previous battles here have
been hotly-contested, and settled
by either a single goal, or resulting
in a draw.
When Pompey won the FA Cup as a
Premier League side in 2008, it was
unthinkable that they’d be travelling
to Wycombe for a League 2 fixture
less than six years later, and their
ascent back up the leagues has been
slower than they’d have wished,
currently playing third-tier football
for the sixth consecutive season.
However, they’ve been in the
promotion shake-up almost
permanently in that time, and would
have been the Chairboys’ opponents
at Wembley in the 2020 play-off final
had fortune fallen in their favour in
the semi-final against Oxford.

slightly by dropped points at

Ipswich, but 31 points from 16 games
is a commendable effort as we edge
towards the halfway mark of the
season, and they could gain ground
on the leaders with a win today while
12 clubs are out of action.
Today’s game could’ve been
postponed due to the absences
of Daryl Horgan, Sullay Kaikai and
Tjay De Barr on international duty,
but Gareth Ainsworth and his staff
opted to play the game – against a
Portsmouth side missing two key
players for the same reason – and
hopes that decision will be fully
justified by 5pm.
Next Saturday’s edition of BluePrint
will actually be our last; as a club we
are committed to moving further
into the digital world and have
some exciting plans to deliver our
best-ever digital experience to our
supporters, while continuing our
journey towards having a paperless
stadium, playing our part in the
global sustainability efforts.
That’s not to say that we won’t
at times produce special editions
for prestigious occasions, but the
match-by-match programmes will
be placed into retirement.
