“As we grow into an increasingly aging society, where the average age of our communities is
getting older, we see that there can be a lagged response to our changing world in terms of how
our institutions and services work. We need to make sure that our society is structured in a way
that ensures dignity, safety, health, well-being, interaction, and independence for every member of
our community. Practically, this means having mobile health and social service operations, funding
assistive transportation services, maintaining walkways, increasing senior services and recreational
activities, helping seniors connect digitally, increasing accessibility in every facet of life from
customer service call-in centers to ride sharing services to fitness classes. We need to be creative in
envisioning the walls that separate many older adults from the larger community and what we do
about opening those walls up for increased connectedness.”
