Crematorium Donates<br />

to Charity<br />

that will delight young people and grandparents<br />

alike. A huge illum<strong>in</strong>ated seven metre replica of<br />

the Earth will be on display, to rem<strong>in</strong>d everyone<br />

that the time is ‘now’ to do all we can to change<br />

habits and to protect the world. Both of these<br />

events will be offered free to view for everyone.<br />

Crematorium Manager and the rest of the team at<br />

Cannock Chase Crematorium <strong>in</strong> the children’s<br />

memorial garden.<br />

Cannock Chase Crematorium is delighted to<br />

announce that a cash donation of £15,000 has<br />

been made on behalf of the crematorium to<br />

Sands. Sands works to save babies’ lives and<br />

support anyone affected by pregnancy loss or<br />

the death of a baby.<br />

Cannock Chase Crematorium is a member of<br />

the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium<br />

Management’s (ICCM) metal recycl<strong>in</strong>g scheme,<br />

whereby residual metal items such as<br />

orthopaedic implants or metals used <strong>in</strong> the<br />

construction of the coff<strong>in</strong> are reta<strong>in</strong>ed,<br />

follow<strong>in</strong>g the cremation process, and recycled,<br />

with the written consent of the bereaved family.<br />

The national ICCM scheme, <strong>in</strong>troduced <strong>in</strong> 2006,<br />

has raised over £7 million s<strong>in</strong>ce its <strong>in</strong>ception to<br />

help fund bereavement related charities.<br />

The Hub at St Mary’s has recently been<br />

awarded fund<strong>in</strong>g from the Culture Recovery<br />

Fund, ensur<strong>in</strong>g that the venue will still be able to<br />

welcome audiences for a year full of<br />

performance, exhibitions and music.<br />

The <strong>2022</strong> programme of events kicks off with<br />

‘May The Toys Be With You’, a wonderful Star<br />

Wars Exhibition complete with Stormtroopers,<br />

Electric Street<br />

The launch of a new electric street clean<strong>in</strong>g<br />

vehicle ensures the district council is on the<br />

right track to creat<strong>in</strong>g a cleaner and greener<br />

<strong>Lichfield</strong> District.<br />

Residents, shoppers and visitors will see a new<br />

fully electric street clean<strong>in</strong>g vehicle when out<br />

and about across the district.<br />

<strong>Lichfield</strong> District Council has bought its first<br />

electric truck to help with its street cleans<strong>in</strong>g<br />

operations.<br />

The vehicle will be used to transport the street<br />

clean<strong>in</strong>g team and their equipment across the<br />

district so they can work to keep the district<br />

tidy. This <strong>in</strong>cludes litter pick<strong>in</strong>g, empty<strong>in</strong>g b<strong>in</strong>s<br />

and remov<strong>in</strong>g fly-tipp<strong>in</strong>g from local roads and<br />

parks.<br />

The zero-emission vehicle is a Nissan EN200<br />

EV and will run for around 150 miles on a full<br />

charge. It will be charged at the council’s<br />

operational services depot <strong>in</strong> Burntwood.<br />

TreeCycle this W<strong>in</strong>ter<br />

<strong>Lichfield</strong>, Burntwood and Rugeley people are<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g urged to help make St Giles Hospice’s<br />

annual TreeCycle campaign next <strong>January</strong> (<strong>2022</strong>)<br />

the most successful yet.<br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce 2016, local families and bus<strong>in</strong>esses have<br />

been dispos<strong>in</strong>g of their real Christmas tree <strong>in</strong> a<br />

clean, convenient and eco-friendly way by<br />

sign<strong>in</strong>g up to have their trees collected by the<br />

hospice’s army of volunteers <strong>in</strong> return for a<br />

small donation.<br />

In <strong>January</strong> (2021), 76 volunteers took part <strong>in</strong><br />

TreeCycle. They picked up 4,428 Christmas<br />

trees, rais<strong>in</strong>g over £65,000 for the hospice,<br />

which cares for local people and their families<br />

liv<strong>in</strong>g with a term<strong>in</strong>al illness.<br />

This will be the seventh year that St Giles has<br />

been runn<strong>in</strong>g TreeCycle to raise funds for the<br />

hospice, and teams will collect trees from<br />

around <strong>Lichfield</strong>, Walsall, Sutton Coldfield,<br />

Tamworth, Burton, Rugeley, Burntwood,<br />

Uttoxeter, Swadl<strong>in</strong>cote, Stafford and<br />

surround<strong>in</strong>g areas.<br />

TreeCycle will be collect<strong>in</strong>g trees from<br />

Wednesday 5th until Wednesday 12th <strong>January</strong><br />

<strong>2022</strong>. The suggested donation for trees up to 8ft<br />

is £10 and the donation for trees up to 10ft is<br />

Tree Boost for LHCRT<br />

A <strong>Lichfield</strong> group whose national organisation<br />

celebrates its 40 anniversary <strong>in</strong> <strong>2022</strong> is mark<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the occasion by donat<strong>in</strong>g £1 for each of its 680<br />

members to the city's canal trust's tree fund.<br />

<strong>Lichfield</strong> and Hatherton Canals Restoration<br />

Trust (LHCRT) will benefit from the generosity<br />

of the local branch of u3a, which is a UK-wide<br />

movement of locally-run <strong>in</strong>terest groups<br />

provid<strong>in</strong>g learn<strong>in</strong>g and leisure activities for<br />

retired people.<br />
