A Winter Chill

A winter chill prevails
As the sunset ignites the evening
With a fire of light
Against the barren trees
Remnants of icicles
Casting prisms of light
Creating rainbows
On the frozen ground
A dog barks
The sound echoing
As it reverberates in the stillness
Of the winter air
The aroma of wood
Burning in fireplaces
Scattered among the landscape
Of a lonely village
In a valley etched in the terrain
Of a mountain range
Fires set against a winter chill
In preparation for the night
As a sky filled with stars
Outlining the zodiac
And constellations hovering
Like night-lights
Protecting sleeping children
