LETTER
Welcome to the very late Fall Edition of
Topteen magazine!
I apologise for the delay in the release of
this one – I had the issue built and ready
for release late October, but things in my
life took a turn I hadn't expected.
For the past few years I have been
struggling with some heart related
problems. Things that we had been dealing
with and keeping in control, but recently
things have been become more serious
and I have been focused on testing and
meetings with my cardiologist. I have to
admit that I put everything in my life on hold,
including the publication. My emotional
& physical challenges took me away from
my passions and it has been a hard time
coming back to it. I sincerely apologise to
all the contributors and models featured
in this issue and I hope you will still enjoy
the magazine. Moving on, I really had fun
photo — Nicole Goodwin
putting this issue together and I hope you
all like the look and style of the magazine.
Included in this issue are some great
interviews and features! I had the pleasure
of meeting up with Sophia Lia for her cover
variant feature. Seeing what she has
created and where she is going with her
publication, SophiaLia Mag is a great story.
Along with Sophia I was also able to shoot
with up and coming talent, Keaten Vale. His
contribution to mental health advocacy
are a welcome perspective in current times.
Our International cover feature is Chloe
Lang, an actress, model and influencer
best known for her work in season 3 & 4 of
Lazytown as Stephanie. It is an honour to
include an exclusive interview with her.
I hope all the featured teens in Topteen
will inspire you all to keep pushing forward
and follow your dreams.
TT - What is it like navigating the creative
world while also being a regular
teenager?
KV - Personally, I find that the lifestyle
that I’ve chosen is very exciting and
I love the environment that is always
changing. I’m always looking for new
things to try and this kind of thing really
helps keep things new and interesting.
I have however found balancing
this with my personal life has been very
difficult and stressful at times because I
not only have so much going on in one
life but school and extracurricular activities
are extremely demanding as a
senior student/athlete. Trying to get all
my school work done and arriving to
practice on time is sometimes impossible
with everything else that has been
scheduled. As I am still relatively new to
this industry I’m still in the process of
learning how to keep myself organized
and there have been many nights where
the work caught up and I needed to stay
up all night just to get my next day prepared.
Overall even though it is hard at
times I love the opportunities and don’t
regret a thing.
TT - What do you do to stay motivated
and keep going, especially during this difficult
time?
KV - I find that motivation comes from
every little victory I can find. Every inch
of progress encourages me to strive for
the next one. This ties directly to the optimism
that I need to have to find these
little victories. The opportunities that
arise, no matter how small or insignificant
they may seem, I choose to look at
them as they’re own little wins and coming
one more step closer to success. This
always feeds the fire and helps me come
up with new ideas and inspires me to
jump on new possibilities everytime they
come around.
10
Fall edition 2021

Topteen.
TT - How did you initially get into
modeling, writing, and acting?
KV - My first opportunity came
about in early highschool where I
was offered to write an article for a
magazine centered around mental
health. Despite feeling like this was
way out of my lane I decided to give
it a try and write about my experience
dealing with peer pressure in
hopes that at least someone would
be able to relate to my story and I
could help them. After the release of
the magazine I saw how much it was
helping people all around the world
and was offered to continue writing
for the next issues of the magazine.
Ever since then I’ve been trying to motivate
others to create their own success
just as I’ve been trying to create
my own alongside them. Despite how
small my article seems in comparison
to the big picture, even if I know that
my piece is helping at least one person
I know that it’s completely worth it and
encourages me to keep going. Acting
and modeling were opportunities that
started as an idea and became a reality
through hard work and dedication.
Despite how hopeless it seems at first
it’s important to keep trying because
eventually with enough perseverance
anyone could create their own opportunities.
After that first spark of possibilities,
it becomes increasingly easy to feed
that blaze. Looking at anyone's success
it’s difficult to see that they started from
scratch and struggled to start that fire
just as much as anyone else did.
TT - Do you have any other hobbies or
interests that Top Teen readers might
not know about?
KV - Ever since I was old enough to hold
one in my arms, I’ve never wanted to put
my guitar down. It’s been my passion
since I was a little kid and it's helped me
through the good and bad times. It’s been
there for me when I felt alone and was a
voice when I felt I had none. Even now I
find myself turning to it as a method of destressing
and expressing emotion in a way
that everyone can enjoy. I play it everyday,
always looking for a new challenge and
I see my guitar following me through my
future for the rest of my life.
TT - What is something that you’ve
always wanted to try?
KV - I’ve always wanted to try skydiving!
TT - What advice do you have for
teens struggling with their mental
health?
KV - Mental health is such a difficult issue
as every person has their own unique
story and different methods of dealing
with and overcoming these obstacles. I
suppose the best advice I can give to
anyone struggling with mental health is
to find someone to talk to and some outlet
to express yourselves. Speaking out to
someone is such a good feeling as it lifts so
much weight off a person's shoulders and
there are so many people out there that
are ready to listen and help in any way
that they can. The only thing separating
these people from you is reaching out and
making the first move.
TT - From everything that you've been
through up until now, what is your message
for other people?
KV - Luck is something that people find, it is
not something that finds you. What I mean
by this is that from the outside, it may seem
like someone has all the luck in the world
and that everything fell perfectly into place
for them, but in reality more often than not
that person has worked extremely hard for
their accomplishments. Too often people
wait to get “Lucky” and for their time to come
and suddenly they'll get the opportunity of a
lifetime. The truth is that those opportunities
don’t come to those who wait in line, it comes
to those who go out of their way and work
hard to get them.
TT - Tell us a fun fact we might not
know about you!
KV - I have always led an extremely
active lifestyle and working with my
very competitive nature I found myself
competing in sporting events. All
the time. I’ve bounced from sport to
sport finding what keeps me on my
toes and fuling my competitive nature.
The first year of junior high I
tried out for the volleyball team
and have never felt so happy doing
something in my life. I’ve
played not only varsity volleyball
but club and beach
as well. I’ve met some of
my best friends through
the sport and have developed
connections
with teammates that
would otherwise
have been
impossible.
14
Fall edition 2021

Topteen.
TT - Do you find it challenging to balance
everything?
KV - I absolutely find it hard balancing everything
in my life especially right now. It's hard enough
trying to stay on top of school and studies but
adding my career and athletics to the mix makes
my head spin. It’s very unfortunate because
I’m not finding as much time to do things
that I love such as visiting with family and
friends after school.
TT - What are your future goals and
plans? Are there any exciting upcoming
projects?
KV - There are projects in the future
that I’m super excited for. Namely,
I will be on screen for the first
time in my life as a background
character for a TV series coming
up. I’m so excited to be on set
and experience everything for
the first time and I’m holding
high hopes that more doors
will open up from here. On
the other end of the spectrum
I’m planning on pursuing my
athletic and academic career
by going to university and
playing for a post secondary
volleyball team. I haven’t
decided on what courses
exactly I will be following
through my studies but I’m
determined to try my best
and make the most of the
next few years, wherever
they may take me.
Fall edition 2021

Topteen.
Hi Chloe! Thank you for being a part of
Topteen! I know our readers will be very
interested in your story.
Thank you! It's my pleasure.
How did you first get involved in
performing arts?
I fell in love with performing at a very young
age. - When I was 2, I began dancing and
started traveling competitively with it by
the age of 6.
By 7, I began singing and acting lessons
and dove into the world of auditions,
live shows, working on set, and daily
training. I continued to nurture my
love for performing and suddenly
landed the role of Stephanie on
the kid's international TV show,
LazyTown.
Being cast in Lazytown
must have been an amazing
experience!
When I found out I had booked
this life-changing role, it was
a quick turnaround until my mom
and I had packed our bags and said
goodbye to our lives at home while
we began our journey of living in
Iceland. The creator of the show is
Icelandic, so LazyTown was filmed
in Reykjavik.
PHOTO
YVPR Photography
How long were you in
Iceland?
My mom and I spent around two years or
so while I filmed two seasons. While there
I also traveled, met life-long friends,
learned new things, and had some of
the best experiences of my life! Every
day on set was so much fun and I was
surrounded by people who inspired
me and helped me grow.
topteen.ca 19

What was each day like?
My days on set were usually Mondays through
Fridays from 8 AM - 7 PM, and the weekends
were spent traveling & relaxing with cast
and crew members! A typical day on set for
me consisted of tutoring, recording weekly
episode songs & learning the dances, filming
on set, learning new scripts, fittings, and
more. The time I spent filming LazyTown
and the people I met is so special to me,
I even go back to visit almost every
summer!
What happened after Lazytown?
Once I finished filming seasons 3 &
4 of LazyTown, I moved back to my
hometown and began public school
again as a 7th grader. I jumped right
back into the old life and activities
I had loved before and continued
auditioning as well. Over the
years I have booked numerous
commercials, print jobs, and
short films.
In 2015 I started my first year
of high school and committed
to my academics, volunteer work,
and my high school's competitive
varsity dance team.
Throughout these four years, I
spent most of my time with family
and friends, studying, dancing,
auditioning, and taking singing and
guitar lessons.
What are you up to now?
Now, I am currently a Junior at Pace
University in New York City where
I study Arts and Entertainment
Management. Along the way, I've
found a passion for social media
and influencing and I've been
having a lot of fun making weekly
vlogs, TikTok's, and collaborating
with different brands. I really enjoy
my classes and what I'm learning
in school and looking forward to
landing an internship in the near
future!
Before you go, what is your advice
for teens looking to pursue a
career in the industry?
If I had to give any piece of
advice to young performers or
entrepreneurs in this industry,
I'd say to remember to fall in
love with the process. I love
what I do because I get so
excited still for the little things
- every audition, acting class, a
new friend, or opportunity!
Author Spotlight
We sit down with model turned best
selling author Danica Mendéz of
Certainly Something.com to discuss the
release of her second book!
TT: Danica! Here we are again! Tell us about your next book coming out.
DM: Thank you so much for having me! I wrote a second book in my series
The Phantom’s Tea called Two Face Arcade! The book is about a girl named
Dakota and her friends navigating out of an arcade game of terror! As she
goes through the levels, she finds it hard to trust her friends and learns
that people are not always what they seem.
Danica
Mendéz
TT: What was your inspiration behind this plot?
DM: Everything. We’ve all had a brush with a two-face. I’m sure everyone can relate to this plot. You can be
the kindest person in the world and you’ll always meet someone who sort of betrays you and breaks your
heart. The important thing is not not let that hurt turn you into a two-face, and that’s what Dakota sort
of struggles with through the game.
TT: There are a lot of characters in this book, unlike the first. In fact, it’s very different from your first work!
What was your inspiration behind the characters?
DM: Dakota symbolizes who I am right now, and her best friend Riker is who I used to be. Riker is adventurous
and spontaneous while Dakota is a little more reserved. There is a girl Ofelia in the story who’s the antagonist.
She’s quite nasty! I definitely modeled her after someone who bullied me for a few years. I also made sure to
write in a way where people felt bad for Ofelia. You should always have compassion for people who are angry
and limited. It’s like the saying goes; hurt people hurt people.
TT: There is a lot of symbolism in this book. What is one scene that is the most significant to you?
DM: I would say the scene where Dakota comes across an evil chameleon who changes colors. She’s so
confused as to how easily someone can change the narrative and bend the truth. You have to be confident
in yourself and your heart. Protect your voice and your mind fiercely because there are going to be people
who want nothing more than to silence you and discredit you! Be brave! Be kind! Don’t question your gut!
Ava Grace is 13 years old, from Massachusetts, and in 7th grade. She loves her
family, pets, and all kinds of animals! She would like to be a veterinarian someday.
She enjoys being active and being outdoors, everything from running, bicycling,
working out, soccer and most recently field hockey.
Ava enjoys modeling and aspires to be in an Abercrombie and Fitch Ad someday.
She is currently building her portfolio and seeking representation from Boston
and NY agencies. She knows she will have to put in a lot of work to reach her
modeling goal but she will enjoy the experience while getting there.
Ava has thought about modeling for quite awhile. She's always been on the shy
side but when it came time for her first photo shoot, all of that went away. She,
for the first time in her life, didn't over think it! It just felt right and it was like she
has done it forever!
She was so excited and can't wait for her next one. She loves all of the creativity
that comes with it.
Sophia
Lia
The Summer of 2019 saw the second issue of teenLook being
released, and included in it was a very eager and outgoing young
lady – Sophia Lia.
Right from our first correspondence, I knew she had big plans
and dreams. By the next issue she was writing a monthly self-help
feature for us. This then led to a Cover Feature for the September
– Back to School special! Her writing duties continued with regular
contributions to the publication.
It is no surprise that her passion for helping others and her focus
on that path led her to launching her own publication, Sophia
Lia Magazine. I am so proud to see her accomplishments and
dedication to helping her peers through her work.
We catch up for a special interview with Sophia as she
shares her thoughts on life as a teen entrepreneur!
36
Fall edition – 2021

Hi everyone!
My name is Sophia, and I am the 17-year
old editor in chief and creator behind
Sophia Lia Mag, a mental health and
wellness magazine for teens.
As fancy as that title might sound, I am also just a regular 16-yearold
girl who started a project solely based on a passion. Ever
since I was little, I struggled with anxiety, and it was terrible. Going
through that while also seeing other people struggle with all
sorts of mental illnesses inspired the idea of creating an ensemble
of pieces to create one beautiful magazine. It is real, it's raw,
and it talks about people's truths.
In early 2020 when covid hit, I originally had the idea to start my
own magazine. Now let me make it clear that I had absolutely no
idea what I was doing (like at all to be fully transparent), and I was
scared! I was asking people to open up and talk about their vulnerabilities
to a public crowd and for a magazine that didn't even
exist at the time. So saying it was hard to get people to write in
my first issue is a bit of an understatement. However, after finally
coming out with the first edition in August '20, the response was
overwhelming, and for that, I will forever be grateful. We had people
reading the magazine from all over the world, and I was also
receiving article/story submissions from all over the world. Now, a
year later, I am so thrilled to tell you that the magazine has had 5
million views in over 100 countries globally in the past 13 months.
Top Teen: What is your #1 piece of advice for anyone struggling with their mental health?
Sophia: The best thing you can do if you're struggling is to speak out. It doesn't matter if that's to a friend,
a parent, a therapist, a coach, or anyone in between, but the minute you can get that off your chest, I promise
you'll feel better. It's not always easy to admit you're struggling, but try your best to remember that
it's never something to be ashamed of, and you're not alone. So many people love and care about you, and
they will do anything to help you. If you feel entirely alone, kids help phone is a fantastic resource to talk to
someone and get really good advice. In addition, remember my DMS are always open as well for you!
Top Teen: How many hours do you put alone into producing one edition of Sophia Lia Magazine?
Sophia: About 300 hours. And yes, every single minute is more than worth it.
Top Teen: Where do you get all your motivation from? Do you ever feel a lack of motivation?
Sophia: I'm not going to sit here and lie to everyone by saying I always jump out of bed every morning full of
motivation and energy. Because honestly, that's not the reality of it. Motivation comes and goes in waves,
and it's okay to take breaks and rest up sometimes when you feel a lack of motivation. For me, however, my
motivation to work hard and keep going is the impact. Thinking about who I'm helping and the big picture.
Sometimes, it can be easy to feel tired and like things are moving slow, and when that happens to me, I like
to sit back and remind myself of my WHY. My why is because I've been there in a dark place, and I know others
have been too, and I want to help. I want to advocate and show people that they aren't alone in struggling
with mental health. That right there gets me up every single day. Find your purpose, the thing you live
for and love most, and all of a sudden, the lack of motivation will fade, trust me.
topteen.ca 37

Top Teen: How do you manage to balance school, work, and your social life?
Sophia: It's not easy, but it's possible! I find the most important thing to learn is good time management
and organization. Prioritizing what's most important at the time is also crucial. It can
sometimes be challenging to balance three businesses full-time, be in school full time, and keep up
with all my family and friends. Being organized and dividing my time evenly by visualizing it in my
planner has been the most helpful I found. It's also essential to get my alone downtime, so I can
rest and recharge to be creative, energetic, and ready to work hard when it's time. It's completely
normal and more than okay to take breaks; everyone needs them now and then!
Top Teen: How did you start all of this on your own?
Sophia: I didn't. I was able to start everything because of the incredible people who surround me
every day. I have the most supportive parents/business partners (I think having mom and dad as
business partners is pretty cool), family, and friends who support me along the way every single
day. It's hard; being a creator and an entrepreneur is challenging, but it's doable because of the help
of so many amazing people. I was a monthly columnist in Teen Look Magazine (Top Teen now) for
over a year, and this very magazine sparked my interest in starting my own! Without the readers,
writers, editors, contributors, graphic artists, and my family, I can assure you SL Mag would not be
a thing. Sure it was my idea, but it is our creation—Ours meaning every single person who has made
an impact with the publication in one way or another.
Top Teen: Do you have advice for teens wanting to grow their social media?
Sophia: I found the easiest way was to try to connect with my audience on a personal level. I could
tell you that the way to get a following is by posting consistently and having good content, and
as accurate as that is, I think the best way is by keeping it real. People love when they can relate
to someone they see on Instagram. Sometimes social media can portray unrealistic expectations
and standards, making someone's life seem perfect, and it simply isn't realistic. People like genuine,
honest, and authentic content, which is better than all the saturated content drowning in filters.
Another vital aspect of growing your audience is building personal relationships. I like to spend a
few hours a week just messaging and interacting with my followers, having genuine conversations.
That builds trust and real friendships. It took me over a year to get my first 10 000 followers, and
then another year to hit over 425 000 followers across my accounts. Patience, hard work, and authenticity
are key!
Top Teen: What is your next goal with the magazine?
Sophia: Next stop - hit an eight-figure readership! I am overwhelmed in the best way to say that 10
million is well on its way! To have the magazine reach that many people and potentially help normalize
mental health more through my magazine is something I am excited and blessed for.
Top Teen: Is there anything you want to say to your fans/readers?
Sophia: I would love to thank everyone for all the support and love over the last three years. If you
told me what I would be doing three years ago right now, I wouldn't believe you. The growth has
been insane, and I am so lucky for you all and will forever be grateful! I would also like to add that if
you are struggling with your mental health, please know that you are not alone and there is help.
Things always get better, and you are loved so much.
Best friends don't always have to have the same opinion!
It can be safely said that the world we are living in today is a mere shadow of what
it was when I was a teenager. Every aspect of life has exponentially advanced from the
technology we use daily to health & medical care. When I was a young boy, news came in
print form and by what we caught on T.V. & radio. Today, we are informed nearly instantaneously
of current events around the world in near real-time. The weather patterns
and devastation being seen today are unprecedented. Threats of superpowers against
superpowers lead us to watch in fear of whom will invade whom and the repercussions
they will bring. Governments have the power and authority to control the lives of every
citizen under them. A global pandemic has affected the lives of nearly every single person
on the planet today. All these things sound like the plot of the next blockbuster we
might see on film, but the sad reality is this is not fiction – It is what we are experiencing
now. In Matthew 24:3, the disciples of Jesus came to Him asking about the signs of the
end times: (Read all of chapter 24 for more insight)
— Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell
us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of
the age?” —
Jesus quotes scripture from the Old Testament and also describes a time and events
that eerily parallel our current time. A key note also relates to current times.
— Matthew 24:10-14
10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11
Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will
abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the
nations, and then the end will come. —
We are living in a time where many people are offended and many hate one another. It
is plainly seen every day. Do you think with todays technologly, the whole world will have
heard the Gospel of Christ? This is the time to stand up and witness for Christ.
Arnold was a German-born American photographer best known for his
photographs of the inhabitants of San Francisco’s Chinatown, capturing
everything from the architecture, to the children and even further at
the bottom, the drug addicts that lived there. He resided in San Fransisco
between 1895-1911. He is also known for his portraits of politicians,
socialites, literary figures and entertainment celebrities. The devastating
San Fransisco earthquake of April 18, 1906, destroyed nearly 80% of
the town and killing over 3000 people. Devastating fires broke out and
lasted for several days. Arnold’s photography studio was destroyed,
and most of his work to date was lost in the fires. His photograph, Looking
down Sacramento St. 1906, is one of his most famous photographs.
(See left)
Nearly 20,000 of his photos were unclaimed at his studio at the time of
his death at the age of 73. The Library of Congress acquired these and
approximately 16,000 are now an electronic collection online featuring his
portrait work, world travel photos, and his study of colour autochromes.
Dancing
at the water’s edge
As the Victorian era was drawing to a close, it brought a transition
of the higher moralistic language and behaviour of the people to a
more romanticized way of life.
This is reflected in the dance style of the new era, shifting from
classical to a more modern and expressive form. Dance began to
break away from the Victorian constraints, allowing for the liberty
of the female form to be expressed as it never was before.
Arnold Gunthe sought to capture the passion of dance as part of
his photographic studies.
He loved the rhythm and beauty that dance brought into our lives
— using his camera to permanently record the figurative charm of
the rhythmic motion and significant gesture.
Arnold’s - Dancers at the water's edge - collection embodied his
passion and talent, capturing the beauty of form on a beach in
New York City, USA, during the early 20th century.
A time of liberation and change.
— the beginnings of a new era, empowering both
dance and women alike.
“the free spirit, who will inhabit the body of the new
woman; more glorious than any woman that has yet
been…the highest intelligence in the freest body.”
Na nga Deff – bonjour – hello!
My name is Aichatou Dia and I am a Senegalese born in Montreal.
I am also a student in Arts and Sciences at this moment.
I have always been very curious since I was very young.
As I grew up, this curiosity took on more importance and
I always want to know more about the arts, architecture,
science, sports, languages, geography, history, music,
mathematics, literature, etc. I also have a big passion for
theater and dance. I started to take drama classes at
the age of 9 and I fell in love with theater/acting. The costumes,
the different characters, the practices, the makeup
always make me excited to perform and I can never
stand still. Once I’m on stage, I am free. I let my emotions
and excitation go outside my body and touched the
heart of the audience. When I dance, all the movements
release the adrenaline that I had, and I feel unstoppable.
Since I am very young, I always loved fashion shows,
modelling, playing with makeup, and do runaways. I also
watched a few pageant competitions hoping that
when I’ll be older I’ll attend one. Now, I can look at my
younger self and say proudly: “I did it, I am Miss teenage
Montérégie 2021 and I’ll compete for the title of Miss
teenage Canada". It really touched me that one of my
I’ll do everything I can to be a role model.
childhood dreams became true. However, having this title
is a big responsibility: I must inspire my community
and help them. Whether it is by doing podcasts, by attending
fundraising, by supporting local companies, by
doing speeches, by writing articles, or by volunteering,
I’ll do everything I can to be a role model. Sometimes
what a person needs is just a smile or a hug. They just
want someone to show attention to them. You may
not realize it, but the help you give to a person might
make his or her day or even week. The happiness and
time you give to them can fulfill a little bit of their glass.
Before COVID-19, I was used to doing a lot of volunteering.
Being a student in the international baccalaureate
in high school, I was encouraged to be implicated
in my community and to watch the news to see what
was happening around the world. So, I attended as a volunteer
many events like talent shows and science fair
events at my school. I even organize a dance show alone
for UNICEF: I called more than 20 dance schools, I rent an
auditorium, I asked some of my friends if they wanted
to dance at my show, I choreographed some dances, I
designed the ticket, I printed the tickets, I chose the
lights with the lighter designer, I organize the general,
I sell the tickets, I contacted a famous cooker from
Quebec to sponsor me (Ricardo), I bought costumes, I
asked for volunteers, etc. It was my biggest project
above all, but I felt so good when the show finished. I
was so proud that I thought what I had just accomplished
was a dream. It was so big I didn't know I was
able to do this at 16 only. I had so much adrenaline in my
body due to my excitement and my joy. I gathered approximately
200 people for a good cause and collected
$1625 for children in need. I was proud just thinking about
the small difference, but still a difference, I would make.
However, this project also taught me important lessons:
even though the progress is slow, it is still progress,
and you will succeed if you trust the process. It
was an easy project at all. Some dancers abandoned the
show each week, some didn’t practice the choreographies,
some people couldn’t attend the show because
there was black ice and there was a lot of snow, some
of the lodges that I booked several weeks in advance
had been taken by a dance school, some of dancers and
singers were sick and couldn’t come, but, even with all
of that, I continued to be optimistic and to work on
the show. Even though many obstacles come on your
road, you should never give up. It will test you and, if
you persist, it will give better results than you imagine.
Volunteering is a great habit to have. First, giving back
to the community is a great way to make this world a
better place. Giving time and joy to others gradually
color in individuals who have lost their colors due to
difficult times and problems. Secondly, it taught important
lessons. You’ll learn so much from the people you
help or by the circumstance. Whether if you learn from
a child to be creative and to keep an optimistic mindset
about this world or if you learn from an older soul
the real definition of friendship and the beauty in the
ups and downs of life, you will become a better version
of yourself little by little. I can tell you that through all
the volunteering I did including animate activities for children
from disadvantaged schools, I would do tutoring
for free, or be a volunteer at school events, I changed
for the better. Just start and see how you will blossom.
Like I said earlier, I am Senegalese. It is very important
to me to embrace my culture by wearing Senegalese outfits,
by speaking my language, by celebrating Senegalese
events, or by learning about my history. I also want others
to love their own culture. It is not easy to do when you
grow outside of your country because you are constantly
exposed to a culture that is not the one of your family.
However, one does not preclude the other. While enjoying
yours and not forgetting your roots, you can love and
join in the culture of your country. Never be embarrassed
to love your home country. Your skin color, your hair type,
the shape of your body, your size, your language, your
Having this title is a big responsibility – I
must inspire my community and help them.
religion, your cultural clothes make you so beautiful and
so original among all this batch of people. Then, if you can
appreciate who you are and show it to the world, you will
shine like the sun on this earth. If only all humans could be
open to diversity, they would see how we would function
better. More people would have confidence in them, we
could learn more about the different cultures around this
world, we could help each other more and we would live in
harmony. Unfortunately, this is not the case and that is
why we must fight to put the torn pieces back together.
Several actions can help; volunteering in a non-profit organization
promoting diversity, participating in walks, making
speeches about diversity, talking about it with family
and friends, being open-minded towards people who are
different from ourselves, and many other ways. Just must
featured teen
start somewhere and little by little will change this world.
Having the title of Miss Montérégie 2021, I want to promote
diversity because it is an important value that my
parents taught me since I am very young. I’ll continue to
work and find ways to accomplish it. I also want to inspire
younger people than me that need a role model to have
hope in their dreams and goals. I want to help them as
much as possible so they can shine to their fullest potential.
Everyone deserves a chance! I just want to be the sun
of people’s days because with all the bad news, the stress,
the pollution and all the other problems around the world,
it is easy to forget to smile. But with the big amount
of happiness that I have, I want to spread my happiness
as much as possible, so everyone can be happier. People
often call me "a ray of sun" because of the positivity and
energy I bring every day. The funny part is that I didn’t
know that I was a happy person, people made me realize
that. Hahahahaha Now that I am aware of that, I want to
continue to make people laugh pr smile whether it is by
telling an anecdote, by inspiring them, by helping them,
by fighting for their rights, or just by being the Aichatou
that I am who was born with an excess of joy in her DNA.
Meet Stella Prince. Her talented vocals and original music will take you back to a time past.
Her debut single, “Before You Leave” was released to critical acclaim. She is a proud member of
ASCAP, Global Songwriters Connection, and NSAI, and spends her time between New York, LA,
and Nashville.
Her latest single, "Alone for the Holidays" reaches into your heart as Stella takes us to that
lonely place that many of us can relate to during Christmas time.
“Alone for the Holidays" talks about what it's like to not have people you can call or be with
during the holidays, which is the case for so many of us. It's the hardest feeling when you know
the entire world is celebrating, and it feels like there's not a single person you can talk to. I really
wanted to write a song that encapsulates that strong loneliness so many feel around the
holidays. I really hope the world can relate to "Alone for the Holidays.”
