Jenna de
Villiers is
an aspiring
singer, dancer and
actor.
When I was little, I
caught the performing
bug after watching
Hannah Montana
on TV. I remember
making my own
guitar out of cardboard
and string.
Every night I would
perform for my
parents on my
make-believe
stage, that was
really just the
coffee table
in our bonus
room where

we would
watch TV.
When I was eight, I remember
my mom taking me to a live theatre
production of The Sound
of Music. I cried at the end of
the production and asked my
mom if I could perform like that
one day. She put me into the
next session of musical theatre
and dance classes and
my dream ever since then has
been to perform on Broadway.
I usually spend my spare time at the
dance studio working on all
forms of dance and performing.
I have performed
in many musicals including
Lion King (Nala), Shrek (Fiona),
Mary Poppins (Jane) and most recently
as my dream role Belle in Beauty
and the Beast. I have also performed
as a member of the musical revue
group the Expressions which toured
schools with an anti-bullying message.
I am currently preparing to perform
in my second professional musical ELF at
the Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon. I
learned about a performing workshop after
meeting Heather Findlay and jumped
a the opportunity to audition for Flair Talent
Agency. I was a little nervous but put
it all out there. I had a great time meeting
new performers that had the same interest
as me, and I have been fortunate to
have found a supportive and encouraging
home with them.
In the fall, I am heading into the 10th
Grade. I absolutely loved my first year
of high school, and the year taught me
many lessons. I met a lot of new friends
who opened me up to different perspectives.
I think it is essential to get involved
in all the opportunities that come your
way, even if it is something you’ve never
done before. High school is only four years
and the time goes by so quickly, I don’t want
to miss being involved whenever I can.
My advice to anyone going back to
school or entering high school would
be to get involved early and often.
It makes you feel part of the “team” no
matter what your interests are. It is important
to make the most of the short
time that you have in school. It is
really up to you to make the most
of your time. No matter what you
do, someone will talk about
you, so just smile and make
the choices that make
you happy. Although
maybe different from your
friends, you can be the girl that sings,
dances, acts and has big dreams.
