Director of the Year Awards Finalists Justin Done, Autistic Nottingham Finalist in the Third Sector category Justin’s passion to help autistic adults without learning disabilities shines through in his work for this autismspecific advocacy service. Toby Ealden, Zest Theatre Finalist in the Agility & Resilience category Toby had to re-orientate Zest as soon as the pandemic suspended live performances, keeping his staff at the heart of its work while ensuring stakeholders’ voices were heard. Sarah Louise Fairburn, Greater Lincolnshire LEP Finalist in the Non-Executive Director category Sarah has led a re-brand and transformation of the LEP’s strategy around stakeholder engagement, ensuring it remains engaged with the community it serves. John Fennell, Rotherwood Group Finalist in the Agility & Resilience category John’s quick decisionmaking ensured staff and residents at his group’s care homes were cared for as the pandemic struck this sector particulary hard. Zinthiya Ganeshpanchan, Zinthiya Trust Finalist in the Third Sector category This charity continued supporting the survivors of domestic abuse and those living in poverty throughout the pandemic – at a time when calls to its hotline increased by 70 per cent. SUSTAINABILITY Dale Parmenter, DRP Group Not content with building the DRP Group into one of the UK’s leading creative communications agencies, Dale has ensured its success has been built on a record of sustainability and protection of the environment. A recent audit of its Sustainability Management System demonstrated that it far exceeded the requirements of the ISO 14001 and ISO 20121 standards for environmental management. HIGHLY COMMENDED Lee Marshall, Viridis Building Services Ltd Lee’s passion for the environment led to him setting up Viridis in 2012, with the purpose of bringing a unique mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering perspective to the table based on environmentally friendly solutions while maximising the benefits from renewable processes. EQUALITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION Sue Liburd, Abstract UK The IoD has taken a strong stance on promoting a positive EDI agenda, and Sue’s work at Abstract UK epitomises this, empowering organisations to embrace diversity and harness the full potential of all their people. Abstract is in a powerful position to influence others on EDI issues, and Sue has leveraged her diverse network to get executive teams thinking differently around how they can ensure they are truly inclusive. Sue has set a benchmark against which other organisations can set their own EDI policies. PUBLIC SECTOR Asst Chief Constable Kerrin Wilson Lincolnshire Police Assistant Chief Constable Kerrin Wilson has specific responsibility for all matters operational and is key to the effective and efficient delivery of policing across Lincolnshire. As the strategic commander leading the Force’s response to policing the pandemic, ACC Wilson used multiple platforms to engage with both the public and staff alike in a transparent and ethical way. It was a response hailed by stakeholders as an exemplar of policing during the pandemic. CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Bushra Ali, Bushra Ali Solicitors The pandemic has underlined the need for all businesses to consider their places in the communities they serve. Bushra has totally reviewed business operations and working practices, introducing new policies based around diversity, equality and inclusion, team health and wellbeing and client services to match the times we are living in. Dale Parmenter, DRP Group Dale has demonstrated that the smooth running of a successful, growing business can be compatible with iron-clad guarantees around corporate social responsibility. Throughout the last 20 months Dale has ensured the DRP Group played its part both within its community and by helping its workforce come to terms with the pandemic’s impact. He sees business as having a role to play as a ‘corporate citizen’ that works with society. HIGHLY COMMENDED Emma Hallam, Alex’s Wish Running a charity during a lockdown when fundraising is nigh-on impossible would daunt many, but not Emma, whose positivity and creativity saw her create new online ways of communicating and connecting with supporters as they strived to find a cure to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a muscle-wasting disease.
