Now, Jarred deals with typical life obstaclesby eating healthy, exercising regularly, andgiving back to his community. Jarred is theafter school assistant director at MorrisonHeights Daycare, where the kids enrolledlovingly call him “Uncle Jarred.” He is alsoinvolved with the non-profit Shower Power,an organization that provides food, water,resources, and shower access to the homelesspopulation of the metro-Jackson area.“It’s the most amazing thing, seeingsomeone with such difficult life circumstanceschoosing joy,” he says. “I look at my work withShower Power as helping to restore value topeople who may feel forgotten.”Jarred is also a public relations major,council president for MC clubs and tribes,and works as a messenger for the MCcommunications department. He plans tograduate in December of 2022.“My outlook on life is totally differentnow,” he says. “I can’t wait to start a career,get married and be a dad. I think about doingthose things with a healthy body and I feelexcited and hopeful.”Jarred says he continues to lean on hisparents, friends, and girlfriend for support.“I have the most amazing parents. Theyhave always supported me and encouragedme. They’re thrilled with my new lifestylebut their love for me has not changed. I knowthey love me no matter what. Same with mygirlfriend - she is very supportive andencouraging. I can’t wait for our amazingfuture together.”Jarred says the most important thing he’slearned is that his body, whether big or small,does not determine his value.“If I could go back and tell my youngerself one thing, it would be, simply, ‘I love you,’”he says. “I wish I had loved myself more then,and I wish I had known that the people in mylife would not love me more based on mybody’s size. My jean size is not going to affectthe mark I leave in the Kingdom of God, norwill it affect the mark I leave on this world.God loves each of us just as we are, and that isreally the only thing that matters.”46 • MARCH 2022
