Billingers Boost for Willowbrook
The latest annual social event by a Billinge group to raise
funds for Willowbrook Hospice has raised over £2,400.
In November, despite all the difficulties caused by the
pandemic, the BOFFO group, together with St Mary’s
social committee, held their latest event which packed
St Mary’s Social Club to the rafters and a great night was
had by all.
This traditional autumn fund raiser at St Mary’s in Billinge
was launched in 2005 by a group of villagers who wanted
to mark the passing of Dave Gore, a musician in a local
band, H & The Avons. Dave spent his last days in the
Willowbrook Hospice and his friends felt the need to try
and repay the hospice in some way for the wonderful
care and treatment that Dave received.
from Whitehaven to Newcastle.
To date, it is estimated that since the concept of the idea
for the fundraising night in 2005, the Billingers have
raised over £57,000 for the Willowbrook Hospice.
Pictured with the cheque are Roger Kirkby, Paul Cronin,
Paul Webster, Father Paul Harris, John Moriarty, Stan
Newell, Marcus Wright, Ged Kennedy and Dave Cairns.
In 2017, the original fundraising group called it a day,
and as a result, the BOFFO (Billinge Old Fellows Football
Organisation) group took on the fund-raising activities.
The group have continued with the autumn fundraiser
along with other events, including charity bike rides from
Leeds to Liverpool along the canal, and coast to coast
