Methods:<br />
6 COPD patients and 1 patient with<br />
kyphoscoliosis (mean age 69.4 ± 15.5<br />
years, BMI 25.4 ± 10.3 kg/m²) with a<br />
hypercapnic respiratory failure without<br />
acidosis were treated with 2l/min oxygen<br />
insufflation for 1 hour and the <strong>TNI</strong> system<br />
for another 1 hour on a general<br />
pulmonary ward. The respiratory rate was<br />
constantly monitored and capillary blood<br />
gas analysis was performed at the<br />
