On April 25, 2010, six distinguished women were honored for exemplifying the ideals and mission of our
school: Academic Excellence, Compassion, Diversity, Gospel Values, Leadership and Service. The ceremony
was attended by approximately 125 family members, GCA alumnae and friends.
Frances Choquette Broderick '53, Nancy Ekelund Black '62, Carol Baker Bumbolow '70, Courtney Simon Black
'87, Eileen Curran '90 and Sr. Mary Alice O'Brien RDC (formerly known as Sr. Rita Maureen) attended a mass
in their honor in the Chapel of the Divine Compassion. The honorees each participated in the liturgy while
the voices of the GCA Choir were heard. The mass was followed by a luncheon at Mapleton at Good Counsel
(formerly know as the convent parlors). Each honoree was sincerely touched and recalled her special days at
GCA and how those times uniquely impacted her life.

50th Reunion Celebrants 2010
"Happy are we met, Happy have we been, Happy may we part -- And
happy, meet again."
Those were the closing words of our "VALE"dictory in June of 1960. And
guess what? Our wish came to fruition on June 5, 2010 at our Golden
Graduation on the GCA campus ! The day was perfect---filled with
sunshine. We were greeted with beautiful blue, white, and gold corsages
and nametags that included our yearbook pictures. The incoming
student council officers shepherded us to our seats for the ceremony.
Sister Carol Peterson welcomed us warmly and presented us with our
Golden Diplomas --signed by herself--as fifty years before, Sister Mary
Alberta had done. The 2010 graduates were AWESOME. We're so proud
of them and their accomplishments! After the ceremony, we enjoyed a
delightful reception in Mapleton. There were hugs, giggles, and toasts
and memories shared. GCA provided a lovely feast and bestowed on us

celebration, Holly Schmitz Blauser very graciously invited all to continue
the celebration at her family home (four blocks from GC!). There the
merriment continued, for we had "happily met again".

2010 Commencement Exercises
Sun Shines on Graduation Day 2010
On Saturday, June 5, 2010 we were blessed with beautiful sunshine as the
Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel held commencement exercises for the
Class of 2010 on the Chapel Green. Sr. Lucille Coldrick, RDC '54, graduate and
former teacher and Principal of GCA, addressed the sixty-three graduates and
their families and friends. As both a former student and faculty member at
GCA, Sr. Lucille reminisced about her memorable days at Good Counsel. She
encouraged the graduates to embody the GCA values that they learned during
their four years and especially to have compassion for others. She also
challenged the graduates to set their sights high and embrace the future
of technology in our many forms of communication and transformation of the
world.
Jennifer Engelhart was the valedictorian and Rachel Roman was the
salutatorian. The invocation was given by Alexandra Byrne. In keeping with
tradition, graduate Meghan Massaroni had the honor of having her diploma
presented to her by her mother, Doreen McLaughlin Massaroni '73. Graduates
in the class of 2010 earned 7.1 million dollars in scholarship monies.

Christine Nykwest, Science, is pursuing a Master's Degree at Pace
University and attended the AP at Manhattan College this summer.
Amy Dupak, English, completed her first novel and is working on having it
published. She freelanced for a publishing company during the summer
and wrote for two magazines.
Melissa Tillson, Social Studies, attended the AP Institute at Manhattan
College and is now certified to teach AP American History. She began her
Ph.D. in History this fall.
Elizabeth Lindberg, Spanish, completed a professional development
course in strategies for success in the world languages.
Laura Skalaski, Math, earned her Masters in Teaching Mathematics to
Students with Disabilities.
Mary Anne Polistina '76, Director of Admissions, attended Partners in
Mission, a four day recruitment and enrollment conference in Boston.
Althea Fusco '68, Social Studies, visited Washington D.C. and toured the
Capitol and Library of Congress. She also spent precious time with her
new granddaughter, Tessa.
Lara Lee, Technology Coordinator, received the Outstanding Graduate
Achievement award and medal from the Department of Information
Systems, Seidenberg School of Computer Science & Information
Systems, Pace University. She also was inducted into the Upsilon Pi
Epsilon International Computing Honor Society. Recipient and coresearcher
of a Thinkfinity Grant to Explore and Advance 21 st Century
Skills with Dr. Susan Merritt, Dean Emerita and Professor in Residence at
the Seidenberg School of Pace University.

Jubilee with the Sisters of the Divine Compassion.
Class of 1977
Patricia Lenard Angley is working on a full time basis representing victims
of domestic violence at the Legal Services of the Hudson Valley. She has
three daughters, Kate (21), Liz (17) and Laura (15). She and her husband
Jim will be celebrating their 25 th Anniversary in June 2011.
Class of 1986
Toni Rubio was featured in the Journal News in August 2010.
The article highlighted Rubio's popular "Zumba Class" that is offered at
Family Courtsports in Elmsford.
Class of 1999
Karen Rita Grennan and Paul Thibault were married on September 26,
2009 at Holy Innocents Church in Pleasantville. The couple
honeymooned in Fiji.
Jennifer Mary Lally and Richard James Brown were married in the Chapel
of the Divine Compassion on September 11, 2010. Classmate, Gina Bulla
was a bridesmaid and her sister Siobhan Lally '01 was Maid of Honor.

York City and in various cities throughout the U.S.
