Dinos Celebrate 30 Years of Hockey
The weekend of Friday 27th April (plus Wednesday 25th April) saw
the Hockey Section’s Ladies’ F Team, aka the Dinosaurs, celebrate
30 years of hockey. Formed in 1988 as the Club’s D Team, the Dinos are
now the F Team but still play in the Second Division.
Captain Jo Moore and her organising committee planned a weekend
of fun for the Dinos, twelve of whom had flown in from overseas for the
event. Seven of the original team members (Averil Waters, Leslie “the
General” Glancy, Lesley Walton, Susie Logan, Heather Probert, Jan
“the Salad Tosser” Breen and Mary Coghill) attended the celebration.
On the Wednesday, ten Dinos boarded ‘OverBudget’ to sail to Lamma
for a seafood dinner and on the Friday twenty-seven Dinos travelled to
Fernando’s in Macau (drinks were served on the ferry just before the
safety demonstration). On the Saturday, there was an afternoon session
on the Club Pitch, with an entertaining group warm up and a game
of ‘Hockey 5s The Fun Version’ kindly orchestrated by Chappie and
umpired by Renee Spencer. That evening, thirty-eight Dinos in their
‘Posh Frocks and Pearls’ enjoyed a delicious celebration dinner in one
of the Club’s new Happy Valley Suites. Club Chairman John Shanahan,
accompanied by General Manager Mark Pawley, GC Member for the
Hockey Section Charlie Poulton and Hockey Section Chairperson
Leena Madhvani, started proceedings with a champagne toast before
wisely departing to a safe place. Entertainment during the night included a
quiz, a dirty dancing competition and a performance by a dance troupe to
“Who Let the Dogs Out?” ‘Who?’ indeed was the cry.
Sunday was spent at the Indian Recreation Club joined by family and
friends – a grand total of 60 adults and 11 children enjoyed the sunshine,
a recovery curry buffet and then more drinks! The Dinos were easy to
spot as each one was resplendent in a purple 30th anniversary shirt, the
cost of which had been generously subsidized by the Hockey Section.
At the end of the weekend the Dinos felt thoroughly spoiled by the Club,
the Hockey Section (thanks to Lynsey Edgar, Ladies Captain for her kind
words and to Helen Champion, Communications Officer for her fabulous
poem) and Stella Bella Wines. Thank you to the Club and Hockey Section
for your generosity in helping the Dinos celebrate their 30-year milestone.

Farewell Chee!
Kim and Chee
Despite the unfortunate weather, spirits were high
as the Kimchees summer hockey team gathered
en masse to wish farewell to their beloved Chee.
Feeling fabulous in his dashing purple wig, Chee
entertained spectators upfront with his silky skills,
but alas it was not to be and the Kims came away
victorious – perhaps his vision was impaired by those
flowing locks?
The match was followed by fines of kimchi (what
else?!), trophies for the leavers (Chee, Georgie
Barber and Katy Spooner) and celebrations in the
Sportsman’s Bar until the early hours - the blinds
were down I hear! It was a very fitting end to a
Kimchees night and lived up to the true spirit of the
team; “win, lose, we always booze.”
