Club Dominates In Swimrun Series
TerraMar has brought the popular
SwimRun series to Hong Kong. In
SwimRun, competitors can use any aids
they want to use, however aids must be carried
at all times. So, unless you have leather soles,
you swim with your shoes on! The Club is a
big supporter of the event and dominated the
podium in the inaugural event in Sai Kung in
November 2017.
On 22nd April, starting from South Bay, the
second race of the SwimRun series consisted
of a 1.5k swim followed by a 1k run to Middle
Bay and a 0.7k swim to Repulse Bay. A run
along the beach and the promenade for 2.3k
was followed by a 0.5k swim to the Hong Kong
Golf Club. The final 2.7k scurry up the trail to
Parkview and then down to the finish at the
Tai Tam BBQ area completed the race. Two
races ran simultaneously with SwimRun: the
AquaTerra aquathon (1.5k swim, 14k trail run)
and the Terra14 (14k trail run).
Matthieu got line honours in the race, closely
followed by Vasco and Iain. After the race,
Society warrior Iain Veitch left us to relocate
back to his homeland. Hong Kong’s loss is
Scotland’s gain. Good luck Iain!

Splash Dash Relay
HKFC Swimming and Triathlon Society recently
participated in the annual SPLASH DASH relay
in support of SPLASH Hong Kong. SPLASH
is a charity organisation that conducts swim
and water safety courses for under-served
communities who do not have the means to
access them, with a particular focus on Hong
Kong’s domestic helper population. Bringing
together experienced coaches in a supportive
group setting, Splash provides an opportunity
for participants to learn an important life skill
which develops confidence, improves well being
and allows people to flourish both in and out
of the water. By 2020, SPLASH will provide
5000 of Hong Kong’s domestic helpers with the
opportunity to learn how to swim.
On 18th March, HKFC’s star swimmers teamed
up with two SPLASH graduates in a quest to
swim as many laps as possible in a thirty minute
period. Not only did the Swimming and Triathlon
Society raise more than $18,000 for SPLASH,
we were also one of the top performing teams
on the day, completing more than 90 laps
in thirty minutes! Many thanks to our relay
participants Jessica McCarroll, Matthieu
Maury, Rupert Puels and Sally Gentle for
their stellar performance on the day and to
the entire squad for their fundraising efforts.
The Swimming and Triathlon Society focuses
on more than just training and competition.
This event was a great opportunity to promote
the sport we love, ensure it’s accessibility and
support the local community.
